Think he will find it difficult to find a new club with a six match ban. Presumably the ban starts after he signs for a club? So who would be prepared to pay him when he can not play. Perhaps he could be on minimum wage at first and then given a pay rise when he starts playing?

Feel sorry for the lad after his injury and being released but you brake the rules you have to take the punishment.

I wish him all the best for his future.

It wasn't the crime of the century was it?

A split second of losing your temper in the heat of battle means good riddance in your book?

He admitted the offence and has been heavily fined and is without a club. I don't think good riddance is called for.

Ollie seemed to be getting more out of him in the few games he played under him, anyway I wish him good luck for the future.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Ban or no ban I expected him to be released. Sadly after his long lay off through injury never really hit the heights that many expected.

Seems a bit steep for calling someone a traveller. Oh well I won’t miss him but is traveller a race? Think may be history there also as they know each other.

Most people on here probably make racist remarks and jokes at work on a daily basis and are talking like Whitehouse is the worst person ever.

Do you mean that because of the perceptions of what is "racist" have broadened so much you unintentionally make racist remarks or jokes? Or do you mean that in the safety of colleagues you are free to express intentionally racist sentiments?

He admitted making racist remarks, knew there is a quite rightly a crackdown on any sort of racist behaviour and had been dealt with accordingly, whether you think it’s harsh or not it rightly sets an example of the very least you can expect.
Hopefully he will be the last GTFC player bringing the club negative publicity for this sort of thing.

A lot of the posts on this thread thus far seem to reflect a selective view of racism. If he had used the N word to a black person or the P word to an Asian then that insult is based on race and ethnicity. The travelling community regard themselves as a race and a different ethnicity therefore they should be treated in the same way as other members of the BAME society.  Sadly the behaviour of a percentage of the travelling community seems to allow Joe Public to think it is ok to racially abuse them.

What a strange comparison.

‘P**ey’ is a derogative term used to stereotype against Irish people. The player Whitehouse said the word to was Irish.

Not that hard to understand why Whitehouse was punished.

The problem with the "percentage" of the travelling community is it is quite large.

Grimsby has had more than it's fair share of dirty ***** leaving their filth all over the place leaving rate payers to pick up the bill and I have had personal experience of having to bribe some of the money grabbing ***** off private land.

Sounds to me like Whitehouse has been stitched up by the cry baby McCormack in an attempt to get him sent off . As soon as McCormack has reported it to the ref he has a duty to report it and so the process starts . Unfortunately for Whitehouse he’s fooked basically as the fa have to throw the book at him because if they don’t they’re going to get the comeback. I don’t know McCormacks heritage , he might be a traveller or he might be a hooray McHenry but either way Whitehouse is going down .
Wonder if McCormack is feeling justice tonight or doesn’t give a sh.ite either way ? Got a feeling I know the answer .

It’s not just ‘people’ it’s an Irish person.

If you open up your window and call someone else from Grimsby a p**ey, chances are they’re not going to report you for racist abuse. Unless they’re Irish and they know you know they are (ie what Whitehouse did).

£2K fine and 6 match ban-FFS let the punishment fit the crime- he wouldn't have got this if he'd kicked him in the head. Ask McCormack if he would rather get kicked in the head or be called a p-kee

Well this is the world we live in today.

I am unclear whether Whitehouse comments were based on the nationality of the player, or implying he was a traveller or implying that being Irish and a traveller is one in the same. It shows the ignorance of Whitehouse I think.

20/30 years ago I am quite sure much stronger and more colourful language was exchanged on a football pitch. Not saying it was right then but players got on with it. Doesnt make it acceptable i know. But in this day and age there is zero tolerance to this behaviour and players should know better.

I am of Irish descent and proud of it. I have been called worse names in my view. But I am of a generation that would have simply told Whitehouse to F** Off, maybe called him something back or left something on him the next time i went in on a challenge with him. But who are we to tell someone how they should be offended/insulted by language aimed at them. The Northampton player took exception so thats that.

But as I say different times. P***Y is deemed to be a racial slur these days. It is as unacceptable as say the N word. And if you uttered that word you would be thrown out of the sport and be vilified by society (and rightly so)

Cant help but feel a bit sorry for Whitehouse though. I personally dont think his intention was to cause distress to his opponent but perhaps to get under his skin and put him off his game. Poor judgement though.

The fallout for Whitehouse could be quite dramatic. Did it cost him a new contract at Town? He played regularly under Holloway and his performances were much improved. He would probably have expected to have been offered a new contract. But I somehow dont see Holloway putting up with that behaviour and would a shown Whitehouse the door irrespective of a 6 match ban or not.

The ban may deter potential suitors and the level of team he ends up at and his new contract. Could be a costly lesson.

You mean like some of your EDL supporting friends on here that you regularly ignore them going off on their racist tirades? I guess in the safety of the site owner it's fine unless somebody from GTFC takes issue with it and humbles you again.

But no, racism has been normalised in the workplace for generations, it's not okay in any form but most people do it without really thinking about it. How it making racist jokes around your friends that might be heard by the customers you are making fun of any better than a sports competitor lashing out in anger? There are a lot of long time users and people with power on this forum who have some terrifying views about race and politics but are left alone while we cry about Whitehouse saying a word that's been in common use for generations.

No it's not.

Massive over-reaction, and to fine him two grand is the biggest crime of all.

I know a few Irish guys and not one of them would find this word offensive.  If you said it aggressively to their face whilst pointing a finger, then yeah, they might get the hump, but the Irish all watched 'Snatch' and thought it was great!

We live in a world full of people desperate for justice even when nothing's really gone on.

I fully get what you are saying Heisenberg.

As I said I come from an Irish background and have been called things what in my view are worse than P***Y. Now to some the word may not even mean much and as you say you may know some Irish people who couldnt give a excrement one way or another. Thats fine. I would probably just have told Whitehouse to urine off or tapped his ankles. But thats maybe a generational thing.

But to some P***Y is the equivalent of a race hate word. Thats why i referred to the N word. Your opinion that its not the same is your opinion. I probably would agree to an extent. But others would equate the 2. Thats their opinion and perception.

If the Northampton player felt his ethnicity had been slurred then thats his opinion. Was he being over sensitive ? perhaps? was he simply using it as a means to get an opposing player in trouble? Perhaps?

As I said in my opening line it's the world we live in today where everything you say and do (especially in the public eye) is scrutinised. And there is little tolerance for anything that could be interpretated as racism.

I have a degree of sympathy for Whitehouse's penalty as I say.

I’m sure plenty of people of a certain ethnicity wouldn’t find it offensive but there will be plenty that do.

It’s a bit like the whole, black pepper use the N word so it can’t be that bad nonsense. Having worked with and knowing several people of colour, none of them use the N word and find it offensive.

Could this be a case of someone trying to get someone in to trouble? Possibly. Could that be seen as petulant? Of course but assuming he did say it, regardless of whether the player was offended and so forth, you simply can’t say that and have no need to say that. It was intended to wind a player up or get under their skin and was said with every intention to do that. Simples really.

Call him a male masturbator, a girl private, excrement football, buffoon, whatever but when you use a slur which most people now know is a racial slur, of you get heard or seen you know what the consequences are.

Then again, we can’t get all high and mighty, we’re the club that didn’t ban a convicted racist for life...

You’ve got to love the lengths some people will go to defend a player that is no longer contracted to us and was bang average when he was, because he’s been found GUILTY of using a word that an opponent found incredibly insulting, after a lengthy process undertaken by the governing body. And he’s admitted it.

Classic Fishy.

I am sure McCormack will get a warm reception if he returns to BP anytime soon.

Probably won't. Anyone would think he is the guilty party in this scenario. Glad Whitehouse has gone, not because he didn't set the world alight on the pitch, but because he has been identified, investigated and found guilty of this conduct.

The justification for his action is boggling. You can have your views on whether you think ‘political correctness’ has gone mad but he was in was investigated and found guilty. Pretty flipping simple.

He no longer plays with us and his actions will no doubt make it difficult for him to get a club, possibly u til the ban is up...

If the ban is for 6 games it won't be "up" until after he has got a new club and missed 6 games for them. Definitely makes his situation tougher under the current circumstances

"Bookworm" "nerds" I'd question whether you ever went to school, but your choice of language suggests you're still there.

Bang on about the "game going soft" all you like. He said it, it was reported, it was investigated, he admitted it, he was charged. Some blokes from Grimsby don't think it was offensive, but those actually involved in making a decision about it did. Get over it.

Slap a £2000 fine, ban from work, loss of job and bad rep published in the media on you all because some people somewhere thought it may or may not have been a little racist.

What ever happened to what happens on the pitch stays on the pitch?

excrement-talking isn't allowed in football now?

You think Whitehouse is a racist now then?

Whether Whitehouse is a racist isn’t the question...the investigation was to ascertain if he did or didn’t say something racist...the subsequent investigation proved he did in fact say it, fine was issued, sanction imposed. Move on.

Not even sure it’s worth the debate. If it’s affected his career or any of that jazz then diddums. People make mistakes, no doubt, people should be given opportunities to make amends...he has, he’s received a band of a period of games and a fine. If other clubs choose not to take him now he is out of contract then that’s their choice.

As I say, it’s a futile discussion. Some folk will never really grasp the concept of racism, as seen in this thread and wider society, he’s no longer a town player, it’s happened, it’s been done. Tally ho and move on to the next thing...

Do I think Whitehouse is a racist? No idea, I don’t know the guy.

Do I think he said something racist? Yes. He’s admitted it, been punished for it and said he’ll learn from his mistake. I hope he does, and I wish him the best moving forward.

Why are you still so hell bent on defending it.

Not true. If Whitehouse doesn’t sign for a club before GTFC plays a game covered by the ban then he starts serving it as GTFC play even though he has been released and doesn’t have a club.

The FA changed the rules on this back in 2002. We benefited then because Georges Santos’ ban from the “battle of Bramall Lane” was served whilst he was in free agent at the start of the 2002/03 season prior to him signing for Town.

There’s a big difference between “sh1t-talking”- telling an opponent he’s useless, he’s having a crap game and you’re going to run rings around him and any form of discriminatory behaviour.

Maybe I’m a soft leftie but I believe everyone has a right to go to work and not face any physical or verbal abuse. Why should footballers be expected to have to tolerate it?

Whitehouse came across as a very nice bloke when he spoke to my then 9-year-old son away at Macclesfield at the start of the 2018/19 season. He’s made a mistake. Has it cost him his job? No. He would have gone anyway because of the current situation.

So racism is not okay based on colour. Great.

So I’m okay to abuse somebody based on their gender, sexuality, religion/belief, nationality, age, disability, health or gender realignment. They are fair game? Yeah?

I mean that’s essentially what is being claimed here...it’s only offensive if it relates to the colour of ones skin...such an odd mindset

Guilty??? In the court of law was it judged then? Or was it suit and tie toffs trying to gain social justice points to make them look good.

Why are so many people easily fooled by victimhood complex.

Whitehouse did nothing wrong and was unfairly treated.

This in my humble opinion was a joke of a ban.........  Whitehouse probably took a few kicks and reacted with an off the cuff comment...........  not a racial tirade against the player............  FFS when are people going to grow a set of bollox and start acting like men.  I don;t care how many red crosses I get, this world is turning into a nampy pampy pile of crap, where people are afraid to say a single world without offending anybody.  Sticks and stones and all of that !!!!  I hate out and out racism, but I really don't think this comment even comes close.........

He didn’t just say ‘a single word’ though, did he?

He literally could have called him a hundred other names as an insult and absolutely nothing would have happened. C*nt, W**nker, pri*ck, tosspiece, you name it. Would’ve been fine, happens all the time and is part of the game.

Instead, he chose to say a word which is offensive to people of his ethnicity. Sorry if this upsets you, but you can’t do that. And you don’t get to decide whether that’s an offensive term or not.

It's going round in circles but it's a point worthy of discussion. A player gets banned for something he said. Does the punishment fit the crime? Have the football authorities stepped too far? Some people think it was too much. Others disagree. What do the rules actually say and have they been applied correctly in this case?

Should discussion of these issues even be banned? I am sure if we were discussing the length of the ban for an offence like spitting it wouldn't be decreed something that can't even be mentioned.

You don't have to be a man of the cloth to believe in a mythical deity.

There must be some mythical scale of racism I am not aware of......is it on a 1 -10. Where does p***y fit then?

Above p**i but below n***er? He used racist language. Hopefully some of the neanderthals on here will eventually realise that.

Genuinely saddens me that anyone attempts to defend it.
