Well this is the world we live in today.

I am unclear whether Whitehouse comments were based on the nationality of the player, or implying he was a traveller or implying that being Irish and a traveller is one in the same. It shows the ignorance of Whitehouse I think.

20/30 years ago I am quite sure much stronger and more colourful language was exchanged on a football pitch. Not saying it was right then but players got on with it. Doesnt make it acceptable i know. But in this day and age there is zero tolerance to this behaviour and players should know better.

I am of Irish descent and proud of it. I have been called worse names in my view. But I am of a generation that would have simply told Whitehouse to F** Off, maybe called him something back or left something on him the next time i went in on a challenge with him. But who are we to tell someone how they should be offended/insulted by language aimed at them. The Northampton player took exception so thats that.

But as I say different times. P***Y is deemed to be a racial slur these days. It is as unacceptable as say the N word. And if you uttered that word you would be thrown out of the sport and be vilified by society (and rightly so)

Cant help but feel a bit sorry for Whitehouse though. I personally dont think his intention was to cause distress to his opponent but perhaps to get under his skin and put him off his game. Poor judgement though.

The fallout for Whitehouse could be quite dramatic. Did it cost him a new contract at Town? He played regularly under Holloway and his performances were much improved. He would probably have expected to have been offered a new contract. But I somehow dont see Holloway putting up with that behaviour and would a shown Whitehouse the door irrespective of a 6 match ban or not.

The ban may deter potential suitors and the level of team he ends up at and his new contract. Could be a costly lesson.

No it's not.

Massive over-reaction, and to fine him two grand is the biggest crime of all.

I know a few Irish guys and not one of them would find this word offensive.  If you said it aggressively to their face whilst pointing a finger, then yeah, they might get the hump, but the Irish all watched 'Snatch' and thought it was great!

We live in a world full of people desperate for justice even when nothing's really gone on.

I fully get what you are saying Heisenberg.

As I said I come from an Irish background and have been called things what in my view are worse than P***Y. Now to some the word may not even mean much and as you say you may know some Irish people who couldnt give a excrement one way or another. Thats fine. I would probably just have told Whitehouse to urine off or tapped his ankles. But thats maybe a generational thing.

But to some P***Y is the equivalent of a race hate word. Thats why i referred to the N word. Your opinion that its not the same is your opinion. I probably would agree to an extent. But others would equate the 2. Thats their opinion and perception.

If the Northampton player felt his ethnicity had been slurred then thats his opinion. Was he being over sensitive ? perhaps? was he simply using it as a means to get an opposing player in trouble? Perhaps?

As I said in my opening line it's the world we live in today where everything you say and do (especially in the public eye) is scrutinised. And there is little tolerance for anything that could be interpretated as racism.

I have a degree of sympathy for Whitehouse's penalty as I say.

i would think he was just generally trying to be insulting without actually considering/ realising what he was saying was racist.

I’m sure plenty of people of a certain ethnicity wouldn’t find it offensive but there will be plenty that do.

It’s a bit like the whole, black pepper use the N word so it can’t be that bad nonsense. Having worked with and knowing several people of colour, none of them use the N word and find it offensive.

Could this be a case of someone trying to get someone in to trouble? Possibly. Could that be seen as petulant? Of course but assuming he did say it, regardless of whether the player was offended and so forth, you simply can’t say that and have no need to say that. It was intended to wind a player up or get under their skin and was said with every intention to do that. Simples really.

Call him a male masturbator, a girl private, excrement football, buffoon, whatever but when you use a slur which most people now know is a racial slur, of you get heard or seen you know what the consequences are.

Then again, we can’t get all high and mighty, we’re the club that didn’t ban a convicted racist for life...

You’ve got to love the lengths some people will go to defend a player that is no longer contracted to us and was bang average when he was, because he’s been found GUILTY of using a word that an opponent found incredibly insulting, after a lengthy process undertaken by the governing body. And he’s admitted it.

Classic Fishy.

I am sure McCormack will get a warm reception if he returns to BP anytime soon.

Probably won't. Anyone would think he is the guilty party in this scenario. Glad Whitehouse has gone, not because he didn't set the world alight on the pitch, but because he has been identified, investigated and found guilty of this conduct.

The justification for his action is boggling. You can have your views on whether you think ‘political correctness’ has gone mad but he was in was investigated and found guilty. Pretty flipping simple.

He no longer plays with us and his actions will no doubt make it difficult for him to get a club, possibly u til the ban is up...

If the ban is for 6 games it won't be "up" until after he has got a new club and missed 6 games for them. Definitely makes his situation tougher under the current circumstances
