Well Perkins - unless you'd read it - you wouldn't know what it said

Actually I did read it. The point I was making was that instead of a long and rambling cut and paste job a couple of paragraphs outlining the more salient points would have sufficed.
I doubt if the majority of the content will actually benefit the good folk of our town, I cant remember much that has over the years. It's certainly not going to improve many people's lives in deprived areas. Heard it all before, remember the million quid spent on the so called Kasbah that no one had heard of before, know anyone who's been to have a look? Anyway most of the money, no doubt if we get it, will be spent on outside agencies advising the council how best to spend it.

I wouldnt mind it sitting in my account but 3.5 millions intercourse all!
Half of that will line somebodys pocket that has no connection with the town what so ever
excrement a brick Roy Gibney got more than double that 20odd year ago and all he got was a swimming pool, a crappy car, the clap and shares in a snooker hall
Probably wouldn't even buy a new main stand

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

Judging by all the negative feedback to this statement then I'm beginning to think that we have  the town and club we deserve!

Unfortunately those individuals who have been elected by the people over the years have, regardless of political allegience, wasted every opportunity the town has had previously.

Off the top of my head ... Yorkshire Forward schemes....tram lines to be installed down Freeman St, Cinema's at Garth Lane/Macauley St/ Riverhead at one time or another, the auditorium, ice rink too small, scartho bath's built short of competition size, Great Coates, top town paving installed and ripped up, money in Icelandic (?) banking when advised against...etc etc etc.
These all easy examples of pie in the sky ideas or opportunities monies/ wasted without even really thinking hard about it, i am sure others can easily add to those.
The current kickstart project of the £64m (?) Town deal currently ongoing at Garth Lane.....ripping out the decking and seating around the Riverhead...widening the footbridge to 5 metres......water fountains in the Riverhead.....new footpath to the Garth Lane "Maltings Development" (nail bar/youth centre/zip line) and my favourite feature "revamping Grimsby beach"...Yes i said "Grimsby Beach" ...No me neither.....for the uninitiated thats the shallow end of the Alexandra Dock behind the Ross Tiger where the sea cadets etc launch canoes......and where folklore believes Grim landed his boat.
I am pretty certain if Lyle Lanley came knocking the council would go for a monorail.

The whole purpose of the Town deal again.....1000's of jobs and 1000's of new houses...hmmmm....cant see anything there that is going to make a dent in either of those targets.

Pessimistic possibly or just experienced in the track record of every single local council for the last 30 odd years since i have had the vote.

I think that’s the issue.

I don’t believe any sensible person is being negative nor doesn’t agree that a new stadium would be a huge development but sadly, numerous councils have promised pie in the sky deals and we’ve been promised a new stadium since the dawn of time or so it seems...one has to forgive people for being a little pessimistic and sarcastic towards the whole thing.

That doesn’t mean negative...once again, talk of a new stadium has seemingly arisen but were literally no further on than previous times.

Perhaps the club could do well to just keep quiet until the land is secured or cash is obtained then show some serious commitment rather than discussions about something which is merely an idea on a homosexual packet.

Couldn’t bottom myself to read through all the posts but I’m surprised there’s been no ‘keep politics out of football’ comments...like building a huge development doesn’t have political implications...

Damned if they do, damned if they don't. No update for 3 weeks and half the people are kicking off that they're not kept informed. Release a statement or answer questions and then half the people are picking fault with every minute detail, and inferring things that weren't even mentioned. Strangely enough, these 2 halves of people seem to have a huge overlap.

I still remember the artists impressions of a pedestrianised Freeman Street with a promise of "Cafe Culture". That was years ago. At least they will have to do something now because they have demolished a large swathe of buildings. Will probably end up as car parks.

The Government doesn't care about the North, despite their election promises, and the amount they have put into the pot is a token gesture. One of their advisers, Tim Leuing, even thinks the Government should pull all support from "failed" cities in the North and all their inhabitants should move to the South.

I'm really hoping that Freeman Street does end up as a bustling area with housing, shops, pubs, restaurants and a shiny new football ground, but like others, i will believe it when i see it.

At least John Fenty is a blue. Last thing you want is some socialist div running the club. And by backing that crackpot, he is clearly a commie.

Yes, thank god he's a Tory. The last 10 years of this government have been almost as enjoyable as the last 16 years supporting Town.

Was it really better before? As far as I can tell, not a lot has actually changed. Sure, there's lots of moaning by the police and NHS about funding, but police didn't do anything before and they still don't. Waiting times were bad before and still are.

Services don't just need more money, they need to spend the money better and reduce the archaic systems and bureaucracy. But the latter is getting worse and resulting in worse use of the money they do have.
