Yep Ollie's been like a breath of fresh air so far but unpredictable, and don't think JT deserved that.  Hope Ollie looks back and realises, and has the grace to apologise.  JT might not be everyone's cup of tea, but he's one of us.

They don’t ask sensible questions. Of course there’ll be changes, why ask? Maybe ask who he would like to change, or ask about tactics.

But JT didn't ask him anything. He stated what Olly did last time we had 3 games in a week and got a broadside. Totally uncalled for IMO-  JT was just doing his job and he's hardly Jeremy Paxman is he?

What would people prefer an honest manager who’s big enough to say what he’s got to say in public or one  who rants at them effing and jeffing whilst he thinks he’s behind closed doors and nobody can hear.

I’d rather IH was a bit prickly after a defeat if he was nice and affable I’d be a bit worried TBH

Brilliant isn't it.
Mundane questioning as per usual from JT.
Bet he wasn't expecting that.

Holloway was extremely fractious on the sidelines, got very involved with their fat bald coach and was obviously very frustrated with everything that was going on.obviously a carry over from that

This.
JT must have had the easiest ride ever for a football journalist.
The same boring questions with no invention at all.
Even AB takes the urine with his negativity.

That's certainly one aspect of him that worries me, I thought the van Veen comment a bit unecessary and said without engaging his brain

He needs to chat to Jolley if he really wants to have a go at the press

This after a 1-3 defeat to a top of the table side, what the intercourse is he going to say if Scunny beat us 3-0

Not the jovial laid back bumbler he portrays perhaps

There are a lot of Kippers in a Grimsby. It’s why it now has a Tory MP.

Whatever. It’s the first interview that he’s been disrespecting, maybe irrational and maybe slightly out of control. Does that tarnish his lustre? Probably not, but should make a few lower their expectations a little.

Very honest interview.
UTM

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Heard a programme with Holloway on TalkSport(On The Sporting Couch?) a few weeks back in which he explains he struggles with anger issues. There isn’t a grown man alive who hasn’t lost their composure when things aren’t going their way - the strength and regularity varies man to man. I’m willing to let him off this time but don’t make a habit of it.

Can’t believe some of the posts on this thread. The best thing to happen to Town in years and people are ripping him for getting a bit arsey with a journo. FFS. Ok then, get rid of Ollie and get in a manager who kisses bottom with the press and gets us nowhere. Let’s see how that works!  Honestly don’t understand some people on here.

Who is suggesting getting rid of him?

You can still be really pleased with Ollie, very much supportive and say that it was a bit out of order to respond to JT like that.

I'm really happy with the guy, but am wary of him being built up as some sort of messiah... which, judging by the hysterical reaction to people saying he was OTT in a post match interview ("he was a bit strong to JT you say? WELL WHAT ORHER MANAGER DO YOU WANT THEN?!), people are hero-worshipping him to a ridiculous level. Thou shalt not criticise, even mildly, the actions of the great one.

Bit less black and white (pun intended) partisanship please: you can really like our new manager whilst criticising some things.

Fair enough response MarinerWY, and yeah you are right I haven’t seen anyone suggest we get rid of Mr Holloway.

However, I get sick of the typical knee jerk reactions when Town lose. If we had won today, I very much doubt much would have been made of IH comment JT today. He’s maybe just frustrated.

I have been watching Town for 30 years and have seen many false dawns and managers full of promises. We finally have a manager who we can believe in and has worked minor miracles in the short time he has been here, yet some on here would rather focus on a frustrated, off the cuff remark instead. I just don’t get it.

It's not a great questions is it?  We had a bad day at the office against the best side in the league (according to the stats).  Under MJ we all complained about him chopping and changing the team and I am sure JT was with us on that one. Still ,  no need to be rude.  IH doesn't look as happy of late.  I can't remember which interview but in a recent one, he looked bored and distant.

'the honeymoon is over', 'showing his true colours' give over, we just lost, he upset emotions still raw, he has anger issues which he's admitted. We all have little issues. We move on.

All I said was it was rude and uncalled for! That doesn't mean I think he's a bad manager, nor that I'm a harbinger of doom feeding on scraps. I just think he could have shown a little more courtesy to a local reporter who was asking a perfectly reasonable (if predictable) question.

I think everyone, manager and fans alike were pist off straight after the match - I was. Now that he has calmed down I am sure that he would give the same answer but in a politer way if he was asked this morning. Yes, they were effing shite at the start of the second half, most likely suprised by the effects the wind had and heads did drop but nobody tried to hide. He was as disappointed as us but these things happen . " A new morning has come "

Underneath the fantastic PR,the quotes the laughter and media appearances is a manager with a fierce will to win. That is part of the package and he obviously will be annoyed at the manner of the goals conceded.  That anger spilled over straight after the game - similar to a lot of posts on here!

I am sure Ollie will be the first to apologise to JT if he overstepped the mark.

Holloway is the best thing to have happened to this club for donkeys years and luckily a few wild social media comments about a post match interview wont have an effect, but I do find it difficult to understand why some people jump on it when you think of all the good he has done and the exciting times ahead.

Would be interesting to see the response to this overreaction from Holloway if he was an inexperienced manager like Bignot or Jolley for instance.

Interviewing managers is always suspect and to be honest, pre or post game I don’t generally listen to them. If they’re not full of cliches and sound bites they’re evasive or not that informative, in Holloway’s case they usually include some random analogy or some snippet of comedy.

Each to their own I guess but it’s just something I’ve never bothered with. Perhaps Tondeur was having an off day like the manager and the team, hence the simplicity of the questions?

Whilst many missed the sarcasm in many a post in this thread, the difference between Holloway and the last manager, I think this response was borne of frustration and a realisation that there’s still a lot of work to be done. Jolley’s response was from a man under pressure with no ideas left...

I can't remember which interview but in a recent one, he looked bored and distant.

I think his initial over the top enthusiasm has been swapped for realisation of what exactly he's taken on, The honeymoon may well be over and maybe not a bad thing either. Less public stuff more football managing

I Think to some extent, the article shared on here last week from The Athletic says as much. You can certainly tell the folk that didn’t read it. Holloway admits himself in a roundabout way that it’s not just about him or singing his name and being out there but actually about improving a football club.

The putting down of fans cynical to the optimism or merely questioning things is concerning because that constant blind approach is what the club have down for years and it doesn’t help...

The general consensus near me at BP was that folk wanted more concentration on the team. No doubt we can utilise Holloway’s approach and attitude to raise our profile but ultimately I think the responses towards JT do show a man frustrated and a man who recognised there is a big piece of work on...

He's done a fantastic job in getting us playing much more attractive football, which carries a real goal threat. But he must be absolutely boiling at the defending, which both in this game and others has been nothing short of woeful.

It was a perfectly reasonable question from JT and the response was over the top, but probably just reflected the mood / frustration Holloway must be feeling.

Wouldn't like to have been a player on the receiving end of his thoughts after the game!

In a climate where mental health issues are headline news on a daily basis the goldfish bowl lives of football managers must put them under enormous pressure on a daily basis. IH had an off moment by the look of it, and as others have said I hope he takes the opportunity at some time in the future to apologise.

Let's not play an online court here dispensing out what we perceive to be justice or otherwise. Others perceive it as harassment, and we all know where that can end up.

Exactly  badger.he had been frustrated for the whole 2nd half over the reffing, our defence,, their time wasting and their coaches behaviour. He was arguing with their bench and the 4th official for much of that time.jt was the unlucky recipient of this.

Ps think a lot of people are forgetting that we were very decent first half and played some lovely stuff

Erm, now who's overreacting?

I was actually being hypothetical there arryarryarry, but fair play, I get what you mean. I’ll hold my hands up to a slight overreaction.

It just feels like some Town fans can’t wait to jump on something and turn it into a negative. I don’t wear rose tinted glasses and think everything is wonderful, but some posters only seem to post negatives on here. It’s almost like they can’t wait for something to go wrong.

No problems. I just think a few on here like me were just pointing out it was an unfair reaction by IH to a well known local journalist when asking a simple but probably mundane question, one that I think he has answered before when playing a forth coming midweek game. I do appreciate it came after a poor result and nice to see that he can be unhappy with that but it is the players he should be taking out any problems with.

Just a second, if Hurst, or any other former manager for that matter, had done that this place would've imploded with rage. Proof that the honeymoon period is very much alive and well.

For me, it's bang out of order. JT asked a typical, pretty non-descript question that Olly inexplicably reacted to in a angry manner. He should personally apologise to JT, otherwise why should JT continue to interview him? Just because we've got a "feel good factor" doesn't mean he should be beyond reproach!

Ollie's reaction probably was a bit OTT but following his career it isn't the first time and it certainly wont be the last especially when being interviewed so soon after a defeat.

I think he writes in his autobiography that he has had anger issues in the past and had anger management to combat this.

Supporting town will not be dull on and off the pitch with Ollie.

Mariner _09, I very much doubt ‘the whole place would have exploded with rage’ after an off the cuff comment from our manager to a journalist.

No manager should be beyond reproach, however to state ‘just because we have the feel good factor’ to me seems to undermine what has actually changed on the pitch since IH took over. Compare what we were watching under MJ to what we are watching now. It clearly isn’t just ‘the feel good factor’ that IH has brought.

At worst, IH probably was a bit out of order with his reply, and I guess a lot of it was down to the frustration of our defending. However, to turn it in to some sort of witch-hunt against him and have this sort of a negative reaction against him seems a bit OTT.

It's probably neigh on impossible to  come up with new material after doing the same job for 40 odd years.

IH a bit short but didn't even raise his voice, JT has had it much worse off other managers over the years.

Nothing wrong with the question per se but possibly more appropriate for the pre Newport interview tomorrow. Ollie was clearly gutted about several aspects of the Swindon game and perhaps decided to tell all of us to give him time and space before talking about the next fixture.

I think taking offence on behalf of others is problematic. Perception is key here, as Robert Burns wrote:-

Hmm, I like a good moan every now and then but only if deserved, i'm sure we all do, but does that make me a snowflake?  I guess it depends on what you are referring to.  I accept, being on this forum for a while every one is entitled to their opinion whether we agree or disagree with the post, and we have the option to reply and join in the debate or argument, I just wish posts are a bit more of a balanced view and not just focusing on negativity.

Well said Vance Warner.  People seem to forget that John Tondeur is Town through and through as was his father.  JT has given town excellent coverage for tens of years now and was treated awfully by Holloway.  Lets not forget, it was only a few weeks ago that Holloway apprehended a youth in Grimsby  and said quote " come on have some RESPECT, and pride in your town " !!!  Did Ollie give JT any respect, none at all.  JT was only doing his frigging job after all, and needs to ask questions about team selection etc etc.  What came out loud and clear in this interview was almost a Fenty style arrogance that I am going to do what I want and screw the rest of you.  Before people think I am anti Ollie, that is far from the case.  I was delighted with Ollies appointment and still am, and think we can really build for the future, but don't disrespect your own people.  We should all pull together in the same direction, not build another them and us scenario.  Rant over, but after weeks of great PR and bridge building, I would have expected far better of Ollie than the post Swindon interview.  UTM

Think they've healed any rift, seemed to be getting on just fine in Ollie's pre Newport press interview...think it's time to put this to bed and move on, take it on the chin that Ollie was obviously p!ssed off at losing to Swindon and I believe he was possibly a bit p!ssed off with himself for getting his tactics wrong...see how he reacts after tomorrow evening's game eh?

Very fair comment Northbank, unless something major at the club, keep steaming ahead and make progress.  UTM

Not too impressed with Ollie on this one, but JT should be used to it by now. He was given a torrid time by Hurst and his bully boy sidekick whose name escapes me.

Not a nice thing to call your follower John is it.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Why should anyone get used to be subjected to rudeness as part of their job ?  I H cannot preach respect and act oppositely ,when you lose as  a manager you get more searching questions, I H must know this is is part and parcel of the job in n the modern era

Very true Codcheeky, why should JT have to walk on egg shells everytime Town lose or don't play well.  Whilst driving back from Town games I always used to listen to Steve Bruce being interviewed by David Burns when Steve Bruce was in charge at Hull City.  Burns used to ask Bruce every question he could think of, and was very direct all of the time, but Steve Bruce was polite and open to every question and always had a laugh and joke with David Burns.  We need our managers to show more politeness and a greater level of maturity when giving interviews, and Holloway in that Swindon interview let himself down badly.  That said, we need to move on and beat Newport tonight..............  UTM

I heard the interview and I was a bit taken aback by IH's reaction

As it was audio only and we weren't there to witness the body language and whether he stormed off or just shrugged it off,  we just don't know the full extent of the spat

As JT often says, it's only half cleared....
