He (Hurst) did sound extremely annoyed when interviewed by Humberside after they lost at Bradford. I imagine he and their owner have fallen out over transfers/budget.

I am sure Town would give Mr Swann a good reference for Jolley.

I wish Hurst no ill. We can hardly say we’ve been better off since he left and although it took longer than we wanted, he did get us back up to the Football League.

Listening to his recent interviews it appears he was promised a bigger budget than he got... probably caused by failure to get unwanted big earners to cancel contracts. He was extremely unhappy that he couldn't extend Junior Brown's loan.

Didn't see that coming.

Will be interesting to see if either...

a) Hurst turns up at another club straight away
or
b) Scunny appoint a new man straight away

maybe because his favourite goal scorer saw red last night, out for 3 games, and would be 3 losses coming up, must be horrible to be 'special'.

God I know Town are a long way off being a well run club, but christ i'd never swap Fenty for that Swann clown in a million years. Throws millions down the drain every season by overspending on wages, sacks managers every couple of months when they're not even doing that badly, and this time he's done it just over 48hrs before the transfer window shuts meaning the eventual replacement has no chance to address any glaring issues with their squad. What a flipping basketcase they are.

Hurst was well aware of their "glaring issues" but had no money whatsoever to spend to the point that he couldn't even keep loan players he already had.

Wouldn't be surprised if Neil Warnock doesn't go there. He's 12 games off managing 1,500 league matches and said a few weeks ago he would drop down to L2 if he had to. Would be a typical Peter Swann appointment. Would take a lot of heat of him in the short term.

Bare bones of Scunt squad with the main scorer out for the next 3 games, no facking money and bam Hurst is gone.

Hopefully this will be the begging of the end for the Scunts, the bottom feeders they are

Like Slade, he started off at Scarborough and he is from the north. But he has just moved to a new place in Cornwall hasn’t he? I know Ollie has but would  Warnock uproot to work for Swann? He might for a Yorkshire club though.

All this Hurst Doig hate is beyond pathetic and extremely childish .  Can’t you move on ffs . I’d cup my ear at you miserable moaning poor excuse for football fans . He was a good manager for us and did great things with the limitations that all others failed with .

I think great might be stretching it. He had a strike force of Amond and Bogle in the National League and managed a 4th placed finish behind part-time Braintree.

Thought you wasnt bothered about Hursty!!
A reply from one of my posts.

"More important things Saturday than bothering what sort of a reception Hurst will get."

(I'd put a winking emoji at the end, if I knew how)

I'm more interested in the Scunny fans take on things to be honest, don't think Swann is flavour of the month at the minute.

As far as Hurst goes I'm not really fussed about him one way or the other

Bit of a dud CV for Hurst now....sacked from his last 2 jobs through abject failures..think it could be a while before he gets another go with a league club.
Makes you wonder what manager would take Scunny on now, Swanns track record at sacking managers could really have hampered their chances of even surviving in the league...well ain't that a sh!tter...

Listened to his post match last night and he was having a right chunter at his thin squad, saying he was having to put under 23's in the match day squad and he had no option but to keep playing the same players every game. Aye, just as we have for a while Paul.He sounded right cheesed off so it's no surprise he's gone. Could have jumped or been pushed. Neither would be a surprise.

Like Slade, he started off at Scarborough and he is from the north. But he has just moved to a new place in Cornwall hasn’t he? I know Ollie has but would  Warnock uproot to work for Swann? He might for a Yorkshire club though.

Heard him say that he is having a lot of building work done through the next few months so his wife would be pleased if he got a job away from the area. So given he played for them wouldn’t be the biggest surprise to see him put in a short stint with the Scunts.

He not a bad manager, but he has managed Boston, Town, Shrewsbury, Ipswich and the Scunts and very few fans at any of those clubs have a good word to say about him.

Thankfully this didn't happen in December, otherwise Ollie might be their boss now!

If they appoint someone like Adkins or Warnock then Hurst really will be spitting feathers. Nobody of that calibre would go there without budget guarantees from Swann.

I listened to Hurst's moan about his budget, small squad etc. and he had exactly the same moans at Grimsby, at Shrewsbury and at Ipswich. In each case he knew exactly what the situation was when he took the new job, but he only moaned when things went pear shaped. Which perhaps says more about him than the clubs he's managed.

My nephews mate is a Scunt and he's glad Hurst has gone. Fans haven't taken to him at all he said. Seems a bit premature to me if he's been sacked but maybe he had too much to say in public about the budget. Chairmen don't like that.

As he dumped us then we are rightfully the bitter ex arent we ?

He took over when we were at our pretty much lowest ever position , only one way for us to go for any organised managerial set up with the resources available, he eventually limped us over the line to promotion.....forever grateful for that...... but........ he remains a mono-toned, boring, defensive set, percentage based manager who pretty much wherever he has been refuses to accept responsibility for any of his selection/tactical failures.
I highlighted a couple of weeks ago in his post match interview where he blamed everyone from the oppositions backroom staff to the ref for a defeat where he changed the tactics/set up to suit the opposition...sound familiar ?
He has become increasingly vocal in recent weeks about the perceived budget/ plan that he was sold when he took over which now appears completely different, also has hung out several members of his squad this season.

Shrewsbury was a pefect move for him, fans desperate to survive which he delivered with his do not lose mentaility....Ipswich and Scunny had more expectant fans who wanted/ expected instant success....never suited to those clubs IMO and ill advised career moves but i guess financially he has done ok out of both in the shorter term.

He may well be perfect for a struggling relegation great escape style appointment in the next couple of months but his stock will no doubt be falling now.

Swann was interviewed on Humberside a couple of weeks ago after their draw with Bradford. The way it sounded was that he was going to sanction a couple of January signings with a view to a run at the play offs. Then after a poor Christmas he'd decided they were too far off it and he didn't want to increase what's already a very large bill. I'd imagine that might not have done much for the relationship and bet PH can be a good sulker when he feels he's got a rough deal.

The timing seems a bit odd after a couple of decent draws with Bradford and Crewe and then a bad one last night but with 10 men for a lot of it. Reckon there must be a bit more to it than just on the pitch.

He’s created a tricky situation for himself now really; he’s now either failed or left jobs under a cloud at every professional club he’s ever been at. Whether he’s failed or succeeded, it’s telling that he wouldn’t be welcomed back anywhere he’s been.

I think that would be a concern to any potential employer. It’s amazing how far his stock has fallen since he almost took Shrewsbury into the play-offs either months ago.

I wish the guy no ill, but he can’t afford to fail in his next gig, wherever that may be.

So highly that I don't want him to go to Scunthorpe as I think it wouldn't be long before he takes them back up, possibly before we make it

Hurst had that good fortune and the injury to Monkhouse to thank for the promotion. When he went to the Shrews any result was going to make him a hero and he was able to get his little nucleus of players together. The team was at the top for much of the season but for some reason they stopped going for goals and started playing for draws and ended in the play offs. So great manager? I think not.

Nevertheless, I don't wish him any misfortune. He already has enough and it could be he is on the same slippery slope as Slade.

It would appear that Swann doesn’t quite understand his “league 1 budget” won’t guarantee success.

If it wasn’t Hurst it would have been some other patsy as a victim of Pete’s trigger finger.

So for the Scunts......... Jolley in?😂😂😂

Swann is clearly trying to over take Fenty in the manager stakes...both also went after redevelopment opportunities which would’ve benefited their own pockets more than the clubs...

As you say, whoever the manager at Scunny, they would’ve been under pressure all year. I don’t know if the club believed it would bounce back instantly but if they did, any manager was a hiding to nothing...

I worry for Scunny to be honest. Over the last two financial years they have reported a fraction shy of a £10m loss. That’s a colossal amount of money for a club of Scunny’s size and stature.

This season’s now a write-off for them, but what next season? Do they keep on throwing money at it or cut their losses and their cloth accordingly?

It would not surprise my one iota if they end up in non-league or admin within the next three years. I’m not being smug here either, I genuinely wouldn’t like to see our rivals go under, it’s just a reflection on how badly they’ve been run in recent years.

Yes, they’ve been much better than us on the pitch for most of the last 15 years, and in the early days that was probably the result of selling young players for good money - Sharp, Keogh, Paterson et al. But more recently they’ve been completely artificially propped and I can see a big crash coming.

I think you could be right Poojah. Listen to Swann talk and he sounds like a man with little appetite for continuing to bankroll them in the way he has. If he chooses to get out and how he does it could add up to a lot of trouble.

I think Hursts next job might be in IT, he was good with computers wasn't he.

Doubt he needs a job at the minute, Scunny will have to pay him off and he lasted less than five months into a three year contract at Ipswich.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Will be an interesting few months with Mr Swann. It’s beginning to look like he prefers owning racehorses to football clubs.

Surely FFP will do for them with their wage bill, especially if Swann doesn't want to put any more into the budget. They could be getting docked points at some point

In that case to answer your question I have nothing against him at all, in fact I rate him very highly.
So highly that I don't want him to go to Scunthorpe as I think it wouldn't be long before he takes them back up, possibly before we make it

The interview I saw a few weeks ago he said he basically just fancied another job until the end of the season. Takeover a relegation threatened club. Rescue them. Get the 12 matches he needs to reach 1,500 league matches and retire. Everyone's happy.

Wouldn't be surprised if Neil Warnock doesn't go there. He's 12 games off managing 1,500 league matches and said a few weeks ago he would drop down to L2 if he had to. Would be a typical Peter Swann appointment. Would take a lot of heat of him in the short term.

Swann’s managerial appointments don’t usually last 12 games!

I listened to Sportstalk on my way home tonight, I didn't know that Hurst had been sacked until then, so came as a surprise.

The stat I found most surprising was, even though Hurst had only been in the job since the summer, out of the top four leagues, so 91 clubs this season, he was the 49th longest serving manager.

I noticed this morning that Radio Lincolnshire were reporting Lincoln's finances to June 2019 and they made a loss of £2.24million. That's staggering. That's probably not far off what Town's budget is.

I don't worry about those ferrous arseholes down the A180, all the gloating and bitterness they have shown us all these years they can rust in non league for all I care. A permanent residence in non league is were they belong, we'll pick up the odd gem they find as they will want to play for a bigger club and that'll leave those gurning mutants with steam coming out their cauliflowered shaped ears.

Supporting the Mighty Mariners for over 30 years, home town club is were the heart and soul is and it's great to be a part of it.

All this Hurst Doig hate is beyond pathetic and extremely childish .  Can’t you move on ffs . I’d cup my ear at you miserable moaning poor excuse for football fans . He was a good manager for us and did great things with the limitations that all others failed with .

Yeah but no one would notice a nobody like you cupping his ear and it wouldn’t matter to anyone if they did.

As for Hurst’s record at Town he did no better than any other manager in non-League and any manager since - he didn’t stay around in the league long enough and even Slade had a decent run in the early Autumn.

Not quite. Ours reached about £3m before being paid down in recent years.

But that Lincoln loss is a shocker. Sounds like gambling on promotion again. And that’s not exactly working well at the moment. They’ll implode at this rate and be back in the Conference worse off than before.

Yeah they clearly had a massive budget last season when they won the championship of league 2, you still have to know what your doing with it mind, plenty of managers have spent big and bollocksed it up. Their record speaks for itself, they're no frauds, but it gets harder as you go up the leagues

What cannot be denied is they achieved miraculous things at Lincoln. That club was a joke, a complete joke, now they get 8,000 in every home game. That was unthinkable a couple of seasons ago. If I’m honest, I still can’t quite believe how much that club has transformed itself. If we find even a smidgen of that magic dust, I’d take it, but unfortunately the vast majority of people around here are not particularly impressed with the prospect of lower league football, whereas for the newbies in Lincoln it was seen as something completely new and they devoured it. It’ll take more than that around here, but here’s hoping Ollie is here for a few years to build with those much needed blocks.....

That's crazy Lincoln's losses and sets them up for a big fall if they not careful. Scunny about to crash, will have to cut their cloth next season Swanny has stated that so they'll languish in lower echelons of L2 or worse for a while I think.

Lincoln's results might not be all they seem.  From what I understand they built a new training ground for £1.5m during that financial year on the back of their 2017 Cup run and they have attracted new investment since then.

Perhaps it also shows the financial reality of L1.  To be anywhere near competitive in that division against ex-Prem clubs like Sunderland you need to be prepared to spend.

On Hurst, I'm disappointed for him.  His career has crash landed since the highs of his Shrewsbury spell and Ipswich appointment.  Perhaps he has already reached his potential.  One more mistake and he probably won't be a League manager again.

Maybe we can start to appreciate Fenty more for NOT taking us down the same path as the wimps and scunny, and cutting our cloth accordingly when it was necessary.

Scunny are in a big financial hole that I cannot see them getting out of, especially when Swann says enough and walks out. It was always unsustainable, throwing that kind of money at them with their support.

As for the wimps, they have ideas above their station, and are trying to go too far too soon, instead of sustainable growth. You can only make  so much in an old ground that only holds 10,000.

But Lincoln planning a new ground and alot of that money gone into training ground so infrastructure investments.

We been out of L1 and Championship so long personally Ive lost touch with the amount of money chucked about like what MarinerDevil  mentioned. Perhaps that par for the course, we'll see.

I certainly not in preference of Mr, Fenty's way of running things over the last few years over Lincoln's catapulting of themselves into a relative stratosphere.

Sold out 8000 gates every single home game, all investors welcome working together instead of my way or the highway etc etc.

But anyway, hopefully we gonna get our house in order and start climbing now what with Ollie's wealth of experience and influence on the board.

A lot of money spent on infrastructure but they would have received a fair wedge of compo for the Cowleys.

Personally I hope Lincoln and Scunny both get relegated

I don't think JF is clamouring for 'relocation' as a means for personal advancement, I don't think he does anything that isn't in the best interests of the club even if his definition of that leaves a lot to be desired on occasion and his judgement is often lacking quite spectacularly. For me, this is evidenced by his benign loans being just that, benign and completely interest-free whereas Swann's loans have interest on them, implying he'll want his cash back someday. Also, Swann's ego seem to out do even that of JF's. He has literally zero patience with managers and has moved the goal posts.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before,

BUT

Our nice Mr Day put on face book that Hurst had talks with Peterborough a few weeks back about the managers job before they decided to stick with what they have got,

You would have thought these managers would know by now that club chairmen do talk to one another,

Never mind the FGR job will be up for grabs very soon.

Don't forget they made money this year which won't be in this years accounts.

1 mill for cowleys
6 figure fee for andrade
6 figure fee for Akinde
6 figure fee for their LB
A fee for O'Connor

So it might be better next year

Don't forget they made money this year which won't be in this years accounts.

1 mill for cowleys
6 figure fee for andrade
6 figure fee for Akinde
6 figure fee for their LB
A fee for O'Connor

So it might be better next year

And the TV money is League One is 50% higher than League Two. Plus you don't get Stevenage, Crawley & the likes only bringing half a coach load of away supporters.

Listening to his recent interviews it appears he was promised a bigger budget than he got... probably caused by failure to get unwanted big earners to cancel contracts. He was extremely unhappy that he couldn't extend Junior Brown's loan.

maybe because his favourite goal scorer saw red last night, out for 3 games, and would be 3 losses coming up, must be horrible to be 'special'.

Scunny have today won their appeal to have van Veen's red card rescinded.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Fully agree the more I watched the recording the worse it looked and the ref was only 10 yards away with a clear view.

gimp work mate thought Andrade was 6 figures, but why would they let him go on a free, makes no sense, even if its to free up the wage bill, fine, but on a free nah, don't believe it they would definitely have had interest i'm sure and sell for £

Just repeating what one of their current squad told us and according to him it is to get the older players who are on very good salaries off their books. Anyway not that bothered about their financial position just hoping our fortunes are changing for the better.

Scunny have today won their appeal to have van Veen's red card rescinded.

So if it’s rescinded are the powers that be saying the ref got it wrong, the consequences for scunny were quite severe, possibly ensured they lost the game that resulted in the sacking the manager. I know we have all suffered at the hands of crap refs, but do the league give them a slap on the wrist for being useless.

I don’t know if there’s such a thing as an ‘unlucky manager’, but Hurst always had an uncanny knack of things going against him at crucial times.

Ian Miller’s late own goal in our first play-off game against Newport. Macca throwing one in against Gateshead the following year, followed by Scott Neilson’s ridiculous red card. THAT yellow card against Rovers. The Pope’s penalty which went into outer space. All things he could do nothing about.

Maybe it’s a question of outlook. Positive things happen to positive people.

I like your last sentence, that a mantra I live by but Hurst was a bit spawny at Braintree and dare I say it with Operation Promotion providing him Omar Bogle

(although officially it didn't help pay for him and was a big thorn in the heirachys behind 🙄)

in this instance i am sure the FA would use the fact the player overreaction to the contact misled the referee as opposed to the referee actually making a mistake and needing some re-training.

My Scunny supporting mate tells me that Swann has said there was a complete breakdown in the relationship between Hurst and him over the proposed signing of one Lennell John Lewis. Player came and failed his medical so Swann says the deal is dead and Hurst insisted he wanted to bring him in anyway. Swann says we’ve got enough injured players without buying one who’s already crocked and PH spat his dummy out.

I’m only passing on what I’ve been told......
