Benson looked very good IMO

Vernam again showing us what we all knew he could do!

Would like to see Tilley given a start to find out what he's all about

I know Hess got injured but tonight showed our failings and that there is a lot of work to do. We are definitely lacking a right wide player. To me the back 4, the midfield, the attack are 3 separate entities and we need somebody who can take control and be there to link all 3 together .Individually we have a good team on paper but not many prepared to take control - nothing against Macca but we possibly need a more central captain. Vernham tried to do things and Benson switched play once or twice but on the whole we seemed to be content with the easy balls and putting responsibility on someone else. Improvement needed but we still won.

Agree with you there. I suspect Ollie does too and that’s why we have yet another wide right player coming in. Good cross from Hendry from deep for the first goal but we rarely get to the by-line down the right for a pull back cross.

There are signs that Ollie has instilled a plan for the front 3 to let the midfield come through to join in, Embleton’s goal and the penalty were well worked in that respect but once Hanson goes off there is no-one to hold it together. If Clarke had been up front last night he’d have been kicked from one end of BP to the other. With a 3 up front we do need physical presence. Vernam’ s goal was good and one or two other runs but he still disappears too often and his tracking back is unreliable. But after all that - 3 points is 3 points and 3 points more than the neighbours got last night!

Has anyone also noticed now, that under Ollie we are leaving a man up when we get a corner, instead of having everyone back so that as soon as the ball is cleared it comes straight back.

You don't really need to be that good in League 2 to win games and not many teams will play fast flowing football for 90 mins, especially against the more physical teams like Stevanage. It's mostly a battle, so you need players that can compete in these types of games, but have the nous to take opportunities when they come along. Our players were good enough to do that and theirs weren't.

We played better against Exeter because they were not trying to kick lumps out of us. It was a more enjoyable game as a spectacle, but we got no points. You need to have a team that can compete with all the different types of opponents, but enough clever players to take advantage of any slip ups. There is not much in it from top to bottom in this league. Confidence is as much to play as anything as we saw with Vernams goal.

Definitely not Embleton, I’m afraid.

Yes, thanks. Whitehouse deserves better!

Sadly for him,  on the BBC it is being credited as Nugent og.

If Charlie's defensive play was as good as his attacking flair. he wouldn't be playing for Town.

Who cares about Vernam’s defensive play…he’s a forward! So brilliant to see him finally flourishing for us…feels like so long since we’ve had a player who can run with the ball like that (and score goals too!) He’s so dangerous running in towards the top corner of the box diagonally. Just hope we can now finally keep him fit.

As others have said, Whitehouse is much more improved. We weren’t great, but we still won convincingly, will take that.

Glennon for me has looked a bit suspect over the last two games…good darting forward but was caught out of position a lot last night and they seemed to be getting a fair amount of joy down the right and has played a few wayward passes. BUT he’s a young lad who we’ve chucked in at the deep end. He’ll learn and go on top have a good career I reckon…I don’t want to be over critical.
