That’s a shame, I’d have rather dropped Whitehouse and given Clarke a go in the attacking mid role. A bit like this;

              Clifton               Hess

                                 Clarke

                     Hanson
Vernam                                      Wright

I subscribe to iFollow mainly for the away commentaries, can you get all the commentaries on the radio?

If so I'll cancel at the end of the season.

Town playing the conditions very well.
All the lads putting in a great shift in a very enjoyable game UTM

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Good game to watch this, I was wrooried when they scored first completely against the run of play, had a feeling it was going to be one of those days. So glad I was wrong Town responded well after taking a few minutes to compose themselves again. Some nice pass and move football on one of the worst if not the worst pitches outside of conference football. Refs not been too bad, made a couple of odd choices but not really been forced to make any major decisions.

Disappointing defensive display for Palmers goal, but I'll let Pollock off young man learning is trade still, should of stayed on his feet, but went for the tackle and missed and Palmer was able to drive the ball into the bottom corner. Great goal by Whitehouse for our first against the Keeper at his near post Their keeper made a great first save but wasn't able to do anything for the second. Hansons goal was similar, the keeper made a great save for the first but unable to do anything with the follow up.

Special mention to Whitehouse and CLarke at half time the two of them have been everywhere today.

Vernam and Clarke really lively, causing problems. Lovely having Hanson back too and I think balls in from Glennon on the left will be very fruitful for us with Hanson in the box.

Midfield still a bit one paced and haven’t closed down particularly well at times but there’s no lack of effort. Come on Town.

Looking forward to a brighter future now Fenty has gone.

Holloway obviously rates Whitehouse
Had his best game for Town last week IMO
Further forward
He has some craft

Clarke is top notch for L2

Vernam will run all day at defenders

Hanson will score

We are flooding players forward every attack

Positive
Good to watch
Brave
Attacking
Entertaining

Pace on the bench

Looking good

Whitehouse clearly bought into what Holloway trying to bring, his performances gone up a level to what we were all hoping from him originally.

They'll be blown away in time, they in bother having to cut their cloth back accordingly while we motoring forward.

As for Holloway's stamp on things, I think win lose or draw thing are going to be a lot of fun! Or a roller coaster ride at least depending on how you define fun.

Nadesan a bit lucky not to get a red then. I think the fact he was so close to Pollock already has saved him from being sent off.

Balls! Change in formation has hurt us there. Whatever we did hasn't worked and we've let them in again

Pollock all over the shop there. Had the chance to foul their player on the break, didn't take it and let him glide past to set Palmer up for the tap in. Needs to learn when to be cynical!

Looking at our goalscoring record of late he's a damn sight better than anything we've got, swap him for Green, Rose and Cardwell for a start

Fallen to bits in the second half

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Certainly not a reaction to his two recent costly mistakes but he must be brilliant in training because surely his match day performances don’t put him towards the top performers...

Disappointing as I thought the defence was our wrong point When did we last concede 3?

There’s a whole list of things Fenty can be blamed for but Clifton being bang average isn’t one of them...however, whatever folk think, this week, and last week individual mistakes look like they could cost us along with management tweaking with the side...

Not sure why Holloway's persisting with Clifton, thought he'd have brought him off and out Benson on by now..

Of course people will say it’s easy to criticise when he’s made two poor mistakes but in reality my view has always been that had he not been local, folk would’ve wanted him out the side months ago...

What bugs me is that we bring in  3/4 players that apart from one are just squad players and have had no affect on results, wasted money as far as i am concerned.  i know its still early days for them yet but we need first team players or we go no where , in fact league wise we are going backwards again

Noticeable that some people on here are starting to have  a slight dig at our messiah Ollie, this in some peoples eyes is an act of treason and will be dealt with in the strongest terms, haven’t you all got on board with “ in Ollie we trust” yet.

Holloway's attacking style demands you have players who are good with the ball
Sadly, we have a few who aren't
Hence mistakes are repeated
Ball given away cheaply
He won't change his philosophy which is good
So we will have to find players who are good on the ball

Second half front six were virtually anonymous - but part of that was Crawley grabbed hold of the game

Think this puts to bed any idea that Holloway is going to be some kind of tactical genius. Not sure why though for Crawleys 2nd goal Hendrie and Glennon were so far up the pitch. Hendrie was on the edge of their box and Glennon was trying to cross from the byline. Left us totally exposed. If you’re chasing a goal fair enough, but we weren’t.

Vernam and Clarke totally  disappeared 2nd half, Creepies were faster, stronger and at the end looked fitter than most of our team. So disappointed after a great 1st half display that we totally lost our shape in the 2nd. Palmer and Nadeson showed how to work as an attacking force with Palmer especially using his experience of knowing when to fall over if he didnt win his headers. We were stretched all over the place, midfield crumbled and then when its 2-2 Clifton decides to repeat last weeks fail to kick a ball 5 yards and presents them with the winner. Had chances at the end but no lucky deflections on 3 shots blocked close range in 6 yrd box, We need some of Ollies missus white magic to lift this curse we seem to have. Still rather see us lose 3-2 than 1-0 at least there was some entertainment. UTMM

We get in some great positions but a mix of endless passing backwards or poor delivery is really frustrating

When they scored their 2nd you’d think we where the ones chasing the game

I've thought the same, I said last week he had a poor game and this week he just didn't seem to be in the game.

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

After what was a brilliant first half the second was such a let down. Their changes worked our didn't even get close. They looked stronger and fitter, they moved the ball quicker and we just looked like we were on the back foot most of the 45.

A bit of a rollercoaster of a game, we are going to be a work in progress until Olley fully assesses who he will wants to keep for next season. Several players with wayward passes and giving the ball away too cheaply and not enough pressing cost us today.

A few of them will certainly need to up their game, especially on 2nd half showing. I don't see this side troubling the play off's this season and I think at least half the first team will be moved on if they don't start performing at least the basics of passing to their own players, still too many balls lumped forward we don't win and not enough play on the wing.

You could argue that on another day we could have of made it 3-3 but I feel today we were beaten by a side who wanted it more and used guile to win it, albeit with slightly better players.

Supporting the Mighty Mariners for over 30 years, home town club is were the heart and soul is and it's great to be a part of it.

We have a squad that is lacking in pace, athleticism and strength. It is very one paced, particularly through the middle. The performances are far better than under Jolley but until we sort out the physical shortcomings we are likely to be our competed.

Agree with those saying Clifton isn’t good enough. He’s just not good enough on the ball. If he wasn’t local people would be questioning why he starts. Also thought Ohman looked clumsy all game, still not sure why some seem to rate him so highly. And Pollock needs to learn from today’s game, should have played smarter against their athletic and physical front line. Also should have wiped out number 10 on the halfway line when they countered to equalise. He’s young, he’ll make mistakes I accept that.

Front six missing after 60 minutes and that needs addressing or subs making earlier. Wright made an impact just by upping the intensity.

Looking forward to a brighter future now Fenty has gone.

I never realised just how slow Pollock is, until today. If we are going to throw more men forward, we need a fast centre back.

I've thought the same, I said last week he had a poor game and this week he just didn't seem to be in the game.

Maybe he suited the Jolley style but not the Ollie style. We seem to be playing more attacking football which suits Whitehouse as a box to box player which isn’t necessarily Hess’s strength.

Hess is being played further forward. It’s not his game, he’s a water carrier who is good at ticking things over and breaking up play but isn’t particularly creative. The stats for his career thus far show that. By playing Clifton in front of the back four we’ve weakened ourselves in that position as Hess is better and we’ve made Hess perform worse.

From what I've heard so far Benson needs to up his game, thought he'd be an improvement on Robson but so far he isn't..
Time to give Tilley a start, put Clifton on the bench and get Waterfall back in the defence.
We all knew this would be work in progress and it will take time..
Concerns me that Vernham keeps going missing in the second half of games though, whether it's him or he's not getting the ball I'm not sure, but he's by far our most dangerous man running forward with the ball.

We get in some great positions but a mix of endless passing backwards or poor delivery is really frustrating

When they scored their 2nd you’d think we where the ones chasing the game

Agree with this
We just need to improve and be better with the ball
Ollie plays attacking footy
We will commit players
We will get caught out
Need to score more when on top
Better end product
Better quality
Better decision making

I'd rest Clifton and give Hewitt a chance-at least he can kick a ball where he intends AND take a long throw-especially useful now Hanson's back AND feed the winger with through balls . A lot of players were suppressed from their natural game by Jolly.

Don't be a male private...so far he's managed 30 minutes, he's lost the ball nearly every time he's had it, managed one pass to one of his own players...so, as far as I can see he's not an upgrade on Robson, he may prove to be and I hope he is, but I've not seen enough to say he will be..

Why did you think Benson would be an upgrade on Robson out of interest? Never played senior football before a week ago.

Clifton needs dropping. he has cost us points now in two games up to now. all the hard work going to waste.. i know if we are going to attack more we will not defend as weel but these mistakes has to stop now

Like all the lads Clifton was spot on in the first half, it was when he was moved further forward and we tried playing with more width in the second half things went wrong.
Clifton was swamped in the position he was playing.
The second half performance was down to the manager for changing things around when he didnt need to.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

I agree that Hess has been one who's performances have suffered under Ollie. He is an amazing breaker up of oppo play but very one paced and uncreative on the ball, his preference is usually to go sideways or backwards. I don't think that is how Ollie wants him to play.

In the middle with Clifton white house and Hess we have loads of energy and determination but little creativity, and only Clifton is not slow. Under Ollie white house has blossomed somewhat tho, as he is probably the most natural attacking midfielder of the trio.

He’s barely turned 20, has barely played competitive football before and has managed 30 minutes off the bench both times when we’re chasing the game. But yeah, go ahead and judge him on that.

I never said he would be, but he's been brought in to play a similar role so he's either got to prove he's as good or better than Robson..and knowing Robson is now available to come back we may have slipped up there...time will tell..

I think there are still a lot of people who got on board with 'in Jolley we trust' so their committment is perhaps understandable

So why sign him then?...waste of a wage with that attitude..not sure Robson had anymore experience than Benson and as I said to Abdul, with Robson now being available I think we may have been to quick to bring in a replacement.
We don't have time to bring in loan players that aren't ready for first team football, no point in trying to blood someone else's player, would rather bring one of our through if that's the case

Don’t get ohman being criticised? Think our defence as a whole is very good. It’s our midfield that is weak. Whitehouse, Hewitt and Clifton not good enough. Hess reasonable.

Benson could be ready for first team football, hard to tell from 18 minutes. I hope so, we shall see!

Re experience, Robson played 13 games in the SPL last season so had a bit more.

I think the comments made by Ollie in the Friday gathering were pretty telling on that score - seemed Gibson and Robson agents had demanded fees were paid if they did not feature each week. Had jolley's trousers down and shafted him basically. Ollie is not willing to put up with that and told the new players agents to do one when they asked for it and the players wanted to come regardless.

Jolley, and probably any or our managers  sinve getting back into the league, have not had the status to resist those sort of demands. Ollie does.

Answers a question of mi e actually, when Gibson was first featuring regularly I had asked if loan contracts could stipulate we had to pay his wages if we didn't play him. I thought he was a downgrade on Hendrie on the left so wondered if that was the reason we played him instead. To be fair he developed into a steady defensive full back but was never any more than  mediocre goin forward. Quite Possibly these fees influenced him getting the nod.

A bit of physicality in midfield is certainly one thing we have lost since Robson left he was an athletic six-footer who really began to get stuck in and make a difference the midfield area during his last few weeks at the club. With the best will in the world, Hessenthaler, Clifton and Whitehouse aren't equipped to put themselves about in the same way, not that any of them are lacking in effort.

Didn't go today but it sounds as though we are getting punished when we make even relatively minor mistakes. On another day, we might have got away with one or two of them. With a more expansive style of play, we're going to make more errors. We just need to make sure we bag enough goals to make up for some of these and also, if possible, tighten up a bit more at the back as well.

Just watched the highlights, Pollock needs to get a bit more streetwise for me, he's got a massive future there's no doubting that but he looked leggy and their lad left him for dead.
And I'm not sure putting Clifton in front of the back 4 works either, he's not as composed on the ball das Hessenthailer and we do need a midfielder who can control the game better.
All in all we appear to be getting forward quicker and at least taking shots now, where as under Jolley all the players seemed scared to take a pot shot and we tried to walk it into the net.
If you watch Glennon at full-time his heads in hands, definitely can see this team want to win and play for the gaffer.
On to Tuesday and would love to see a "front foot" approach and some goals...

I suspect what u say about Hess no longer being in front of the back 4 and us getting the ball forward quicker are related to be honest so it's swings and roundabouts. Getting the ball forward, and especially getting it forward quickly is not Hess's game.
