Still trying to wrap my head around how we have pulled this off, it just doesn't seem fathomable that a manager of his quality would drop down to this level.
Having been at leicester, palace, blackpool , qpr , millwall. Having been paid off by a couple of those clubs too, I thought to my self he must be a millionaire? ( google says $5million net worth )
We know he has purchased shares, but my question is do you guys think there is a lot more to this appointment i.e buying the club or something along those lines.

I dont think he is here to buy the club, but with having shares  he will have more say than a normal manager, And for a change he will know what he is talking about

There are a couple of other threads which is covering this at present, but yes it does appear that he may be involved with the mysterious second consortium. 2 thoughts spring to mind 1) he is their football figurehead and there maybe a business figurehead to appear out of the woodwork and 2) that there might be a connection to someone he’s worked for/with in the past. I’d hasten to add that these are only my musings but it has been said that we may see something happening before Easter

My own assumption and pure conjecture on my part...
To move from the South West, sell up lock, stock and barrel, to manage a lowly div 2 club in an unfashionable location does make you question:
1) why?
2) what's his end end game?
3) Is involved with something deeper than just the footballing side
4) His sanity?....
Personally I don't care, just to have Ian Holloway at our club is beyond wet dreams... completely made my 2020 and ignited something within this club that's been missing for 20 years plus...

His sanity? He’s loveably insane, that’s why he seems such a great fit.

He keeps referring to Fenty so I get the feeling Fenty is staying on in some capacity.

He clearly loves managing football teams so having been out of work for 18 months may have felt he wont get many more chances.

Whether he makes a success of being here who knows but I always like listening to him and am pleased he's here.

He may not decide to sell up his house down south but could well rent a house up this way as I understand Mr Jolley did.

Fenty won't leave the club and that's a requirement for sale, he wants to be a figurehead locally both politically and in business and much of that will revolve around GTFC and local regeneration.

I think he knows a bit more about thhe whole selling the club and new ground that has been made public. But who cares? I've always dreamt of having Ollie here and now he is.

So the attendance on Saturday he managed to get almost 1,000 extra through the gate. I wonder if there is any stats around on hoow many extra people paid for iplayer? I'm one of those people. That was my 3rd time on iplayer but now I'm hoping to do it more often for mid week games!

Fenty isn’t going anywhere and therein lies the long term problem. People have a right to be excited about Holloway, not everyone shares the excitement, some are reserving judgment, again that is their right but I don’t see Fenty going anywhere and that’s what worries me.

Regardless of whatever managerial appointment is made I see the chance of zero progress away from the 11 players ever happening. It hasn’t happened yet, in the length of his tenure, and when big things were happening, he was instrumental is stopping it. That contempt for fans, arrogance from board members and inward vision hasn’t just disappeared with one managerial appointment. Still work to be done and for the club to move forward Fenty has to go.

In the mean time, people are happy there’s some positive stuff to be cheerful about and ultimately, the first job is to drag ourselves out of a relegation scrap and stop playing like an average conference side...

Big difference now though isn't there?..
Holloway has a seat on the board so JSF won't be getting everything his own way like he has for the last 16 years...now he'll have someone telling him to "shut up"...can't see Holloway taking any of Fentys bull and hopefully his influence will drag this club, kicking and screaming into the 21st century!!..

Really surprised to see he’s put £100k in, which would make him 4th largest shareholder behind Fenty, Parker & The Trust? Do the Mullens still hold their shares (over £110k worth in 2018 )?

https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/.....tter_impression=true

As above, you’d hope that as someone with experience of the day-to-day at clubs significantly more advanced than us, Holloway would be a voice in the boardroom pushing for change that might get listened to.

Fenty 43%
Mike Parker has £500,000 (22%)
The Trust has £320,550 (14%)
The Mullens have £130,000 (6%) shares
John Elsom £75,500 (3%)
Andrew Newman has £25,000 (1%) worth of shares. (dodgy ticket tout?)

Let's way up his risks,

Rented out his house down South, decent income and property down there accelerating every year price wise.

Decent salary here and rent free accommodation.

Shares in the club than can be sold if/when required

Interesting new job, and change of scenery for wife.

If it goes mammaries up, no loss.

If successful will be the darling of Grimsby and the media

Hmmmm

Rent free accommodation ?   Really ???

Decent Salary ??  Well documented that he will probably be on less than he earns after dinner speaking and media work (all of which he has stated he will be giving up(

Shares in the club to be sold if/when required.   I don't expect massive queues of investors starting a bidding war in GTFC any time shortly !!

Interesting new job - Agree.

Change of scenery ?  I was born and bred here and am proud of the fact.  But I'm not so proud that I imagine it to be a game changer when looking for a job !!!!!!

IF it goes mammaries up he has lost precious time he could be spending with his children/grandchildren back in Brizzle.

But yes, if he gets it right he will be the hero of the area.  And rightly so IMO.

And it's weigh up !!!!

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Thought in his interviews he was putting his house up for sale hence his daughter had to find somewhere else to live. Clearly he needs to rent a property whilst sale progresses but I have heard nothing to suggest he will only be here for 18 months, results permitting!!!

30 more through the gate twice a month would easily fund his rent up here

Really substantial shareholding. It points to more changes in the boardroom.
That’s nearly half the money Fenty will pull out in his yearly loan repayments
Great news If it goes well, imagine if it goes badly, how do you sack him?

I'll be amazed if this isn't part of something bigger.

The one thing that stands out to me more than anything is where Holloway mentioned he put some money into the club to prove to Fenty that he was serious - I can't remember where this was, might have been one of those fan filmed clips of him talking.

But why on earth would a potential manager put his own money into the club to prove he was serious....unless it fits in with Fenty's previous dig at potential investors about putting their money where their mouth is.   Could it be a statement or intent, a down payment if you like on what's to come further on?

We can pretend all we like, but someone of Holloway's standing in the game won't just move up here on a whim, uproot his family and invest in the club just because he's desperate to get back into management. Even with 18 months out the game, his stock (and profile) is high enough to get a job much closer to home in and around this level.  They come up all the time.

My concern is that if Holloway's here as part of a bigger picture but Fenty still demands to hold onto some power, will it all fizzle out and Holloway ends up departing with the investors?

That last paragraph is the only worry for me.

I am hoping that Mr Fenty sees this as the opportunity of a lifetime, the chance to restore a battered reputation and take it with both hands.

It is time to let other people have a say; the more serious investors we can get on board the better.

Be great if in recognition of IH’s commitment we could sell around 1000 of the half year season tickets to help bolster his transfer fund for either January or the summer windows.

It was suggested to me IH had found it hard to get an opportunity and been overlooked for at least two League 2 appointments this season.

I'm not expecting a conspiracy theory here - fingers crossed.

I don't think it's a secret that GTFC would not have been Holloway's first choice

And we took a few weeks deliberating, so I doubt he was our first choice. But we are were we are and here is hoping for a successful 'marriage of convenience'.

A mate of mine is a Barnsley fan, and we where talking about this on new years eve. According to him Barnsley had tried to sign him fairly recently, but it fell through. Their fans assumed he didn't want to drop that low.

Again a big difference in Holloway's appointment here..
He's bought into the club, he wants to be part of a project so IF he did have approaches from other clubs maybe it was the fact we offered him more of what he wanted and there's weren't prepared to accept him for that ...
Really don't think it matters one jot, he's here with us, that's all that matters...

All I was trying to say was to back up what IH had said publicly with a conversation I'd had with a good friend.

I believe IH is genuinely delighted to have the opportunity to take us forward and on this basis I'm not expecting any curveballs within the bigger picture of ownership etc. coming though IH. [my opinion].

Seemingly there are plenty of clubs at our level looking for the young modern thinking manager opposed to the guy who has had his chances...even if he's been successful. Recruitments have been done on fitting a profile which IH may not fit.

Can't remember the last time I was this excited to be a town fan - probably not since Bonetti. UTM.

Fenty 43%
Mike Parker has £500,000 (22%)
The Trust has £320,550 (14%)
The Mullens have £130,000 (6%) shares
John Elsom £75,500 (3%)
Andrew Newman has £25,000 (1%) worth of shares. (dodgy ticket tout?)

Me being a bit slow here but, it’s always said on here that Mr Fenty “forced” the trust to hand over their shares, so just wondering how the trust still has 14% and if the trust had not passed some shares to Mr Fenty what would their total be now?

So this is what I think happened but please correct if wrong.

Mike Parker bough £1m shares which took him above Fenty's % and Parker became the major shareholder so had to offer to buy everyone else shares including Fenty's.

Parker then gave £500k to the Trust taking Parker to his current level of £500k and the Trust to £520k. Fenty then did his thing and threatened the Trust with selling players and the trust gifted Fenty with £200k and not the full £500k it received of Parker.

Slight correction. The Trust donated £250k worth to Fenty.

It was "only" around £200,000.

The accounts up to May 2012 show Fenty's shareholding going up £400,000. Half that he bought (turned loan into shares) and half he extorted was gifted by the Trust,

Maybe the trust saw the transfer of shares another way, one Mr Fenty would understand, they said they would loan him these shares for the good of the club at that time but eventually would expect them to be returned, I think the actual description was that they were a “ benign loan”.

Got to agree with you Tiny. So Fenty twists the trusts arm and they give him shares. Seriously? Based on what exactly?

The most likely scenario is that shares and money are been moved around to get round the stupidity of us having money that we can't spend due to the stupidity of the financial fair play rules.

Fenty has just pulled of the best bit of business of the century in getting Ollie here and we still insist on picking fault with him.

Do you think that Ollie would have come here if he thought that Fenty was the sort to screw the club and him as you are suggesting? He's long enough in the tooth to spot that a mile off.

Why can't you give credit where credit is due?

Anybody else think that he should keep his media role(s) going for as long as possible - think of the free publicity we're getting and the potential to attract new inverstors?

F**k me the sooner daytime telly gets back to normal after Christmas the better.....

No big conspiracy he wants to get back into the game and if it’s with us will need to bring in better to move forward.

JF tells us money is available if he (JF) buys some shares to free up cash flow so IH buys the shares and gets to add “his” choices to the squad ...... if it’s not working JF just gets first refusal on his shares.

Or....

Flush new buyer comes in and ultimately buys out all share holders and they all get their money back+

Sounds like a decent plan to get a manager in with real pedigree, humility and energy and give him a bit of budget to play with and they’ll be more if the football improves and we get more bums on seats.

Either way I don’t care I’m just enjoying the early stages of what could be a great rollercoaster and at last a feel good factor around GTFC.

Scared of the truth? If things are that good, you shouldn’t be worried about people mentioning a donation of shares by a football supporters’ organisation to a rich man.

Quoted from Holloway - Bristol Post
And to prove our commitment to the challenge I have invested £100,000 to buy shares in the club, which means a place on the board as well as in the hot-seat.

I believe that could prove a shrewd business move if I can take the team to a higher level and plans to move to a new ground go through.

https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/.....ian-holloway-3700144

This is confusing me, at present GTFC shares are valued at £1 per share, they are not floated so don't fluctuate with the market.  So why would anyone want to pay more than the nominal value to purchase existing shares off existing shareholders?  All this points to me that a take over is imminent, or at least expected to happy sooner rather than later. But I can't see where the return on Holloway's investment is going to come from?

It's good than Holloway is embedding himself into the club and community and by putting this extra cash into the club, gives himself leverage to bring extra players in.

The feeling I get is, as above, that something will be happening in the next couple of weeks and that is why the 'interview'went on for so long. If this wasn't a long term project, as both manager and board member then am sure his Mrs (and family) wouldn't have played as larger part.

£100k of anyone's money is a large portion to part with for wanting to be a manager of a second division football club. I expect (ok, hope) there will be imminent news on possible new investment into the club, and I would like to think that would also consist of the freeman st project.

As New Years go, I think this is beyond our wildest dreams. How many times have we looked on in awre of other clubs having their stock swelled. Thank you IH, thank you JF (pains me to say it) and let's see what the future brings

Wouldn't Holloway have just bought 100,000 new shares at £1 a piece?

Yes, but what is puzzling me, is how he's going to sell them.

Like Swin has mentioned elsewhere, I reckon there must be an agreement in place where Fenty’s guaranteed to buy them back if/when he leaves. Fenty had floated the idea only two weeks back about purchasing more shares himself to inject some cash into the budget, so convenient that they’ve found a manager willing to do it for him. So the money goes in now, Fenty delays his outlay to some point in the future and Holloway isn’t left as a major shareholder in a club he’s left. That’s only a guess, mind.

This isn’t a dig at anyone or a conspiracy theory before people start crying, just trying to get an understanding of the situation.

Why do people on here always look for a downside, or a conspiracy theory to try and put a downer on what has been an excellent week for GTFC and us fans?
I cannot get my head round some of the drivel posted by certain fans on here. They are never ever satisfied. If we won the champions league and league titles they would still moan about how much money shareholders make out of their shares.

If we are in a new ground in the Championship, his shareholding will be worth more. He's backing himself to succeed, whilst showing long term commitment to the cause.

This is not a normal managerial appointment and i think he's looking to establish foundations here after his management days are over. Looking back to what JF said at the board meeting about getting away from managers coming and going and the squad changing every time we get a new man in- this looks to be a move to a more director of footy approach, with a recognised playing style and players coming through from youth to first team, overseen by a figurehead.

IH clearly thinks the new ground is more than a possibilty and going on his comments about his time at Blackpool, i think he sees us as the team to repeat that, but this time he wants to reap the rewards of his achievements.

Just need the new ground and the achievements to happen now. Over to you IH and the board.

It all depends whether he bought A or B shares. Part of my job is to facilitate A share sales and generally they have a basic “book value” of between 50p and £1 per share in the case of Town the A shares are the ones that the public can buy. Though they have that value in theory the seller and buyer could negotiate based upon a perceived value calculated on profitability, cash position and most importantly in this case future activity. A shares don’t necessarily give you a board seat but do earn a dividend.

B Shares are the ones that usually have the most value as they do get you a seat on a board and as well as owning the shares from an accounting point of view you own the cash in the business, again the value usually sits in the eye of the buyer.

Not sure which ones IH bought and don’t care TBH as there is no hidden agenda or conspiracy in my view, it’s just someone wanting to make a difference IMHO

I invested £100 in a block of shares. I didn't do it to make money but to say that I own a small part of my club.

Don't suppose for a minute that Ollie is doing the same thing do we? Or is he trying to make money out of GTFC? (not a chance!) 😎

I am not looking for a conspiracy about the latest managerial appointment or his purchase of shares, as I’ve said previously I am as positive about this as everyone else, but my thoughts are on how Mr Fenty acquired an additional wad of shares for nothing, though they have a monetary value. Then he makes various “benign” loans to the club, which he is now taking back at around £200 to £250 grand per year, but I assume is keeping the given shares. So in theory he should only take back his loan money less the value of the given shares or in theory will he eventually make a profit on his loans plus shares. If I am incorrect then I’m positive someone will point out my error.

JF said in his interview that he he is buying shares to put money into the club which WILL be used to fund new players. As it stands at the moment we have money but cannot use it on players. This is why he is doing it.

Yes despite Ollie's investment Fenty is still going ahead with share-buying to boost his warchest, the money from Ollie will definitely be available to boost next Seasons he said.

Exactly. This is how the likes of Salford and Swann at Scunny are getting round the Financial Fair Play regulations.

Get a grip, there’s no conspiracy or fear of any ‘truth’. I’m just focusing on the positivity.

Has it become a police state already? Not allowed to discuss uncomfortable facts with other people.

Yes. We must all be absorbed by the Borg. We are one.

I’ve seen no mention of conspiracies. Just people speculating. That’s natural in these circumstances. Half the explanations mooted are positive ones.

If you see this as a downer you can’t be that confident.
