Fair play John Fenty. Hostilities on hold. Fantastic appointment, very very pleased and surprised in equal measures. Holloways has acquired shares in the club, and will attend board meetings. Not sure how that will work! Welcome Ian, very pleased to have you on board. Take this great club back up the leagues where we belong, we've all had enough.

Even if this doesn’t work out, fair play to the board for showing a bit of ambition and employing arguably the most reputable manager we’ve ever had.

Good luck Ian, welcome to the mariners!

Got to admit I thought this was all just another Fenty smokescreen but pleased that for once he's proved me wrong

Just need to look forward now to the rest of the season and welcome our new manager in to our ranks

Pleased for AL that he kept his job, and hopefully he will learn and take over one day when IH retires to the boardroom in our new ground while in the top half of the Championship.

I haven't even started drinking yet.

I've just done an Irish jig round the living room!!... somehow think this is just the start of the road to recovery for GTFC.... absolutely delighted and the national media spot light is already on us..
Foot note to JSF and the board...who picked up the tab at Pappas??..
Seriously, kudos to John and the board, this goes a long way to healing the rift between the board, the fans and the club!!..

This is wonderful news for the club! Mr. Fenty should be applauded for making this come through!
Really looking forward to the next part of the season now. Happy and excited as only a dog can be right now.

Everything about how this has come about sounds spot on, including as Ginny mentions above keeping AL, just an instant feel good factor, with that warm glow coming from inside, come on Town.

Going against the grain here but whilst I’m pleased we’ve finally appointed a permanent manager in Holloway I’m not exactly jumping for joy like others. He has limited experience in the lower leagues and his win percentage record at other clubs  ain’t exactly great either. Also i find it odd that he’s bought shares in the club too. I appreciate we’re not exactly an attractive proposition at the moment so this is probably the best and most reputable appointment we could have made, to be fair.

Still, here’s hoping it’s a success in the long term.

More likely the shares are part of the deal because we can’t afford what he’d actually want in terms of wages. I’d imagine he will have a pretty big bonus package in the contract too.

Only a guess here but I'm assuming he has been gifted shares as a way of making his money up. In the event of the proposed takeover he will get paid out on those shares. Not a bad bit of business

Talk about digging in for a fight, what courage and bottle the board have shown, ploughing in what I'm guessing is quite a bit of money we don't have to get this done.

Holloway may or may not be the man to take us forward but for me, to see ambition come out of the boardroom is biggest feel good factor for me.

A proud day for the club and hopefully the start of better things in towns future!

Could be the start of the revolution or go mammaries up but it's better than stagnating where we are. Rumours of QPR's Ilias Chair on loan - sounds a bag of tricks.

In the statement published, it said that he will 'acquire' shares, which means buy or obtain.

Let's call a truce on hostilities, whether it works out or not it show's intent from the club, very good signing.

Right now I've picked myself up off the floor.......based upon what we've seen in Holloway over the years the level of energy he will bring will add something that has been missing for years.

There is so much for him to do and very little for him to do it with but I'm sure he'll give it 100% and most importantly bring people together and get everyone pulling in the right direction.

Let's put everything into perspective. It's a brilliant deal, no denying that, but if we don't get three points against Salford, ffs let's not have the doom mongers on here calling for his head. With the shares "option" it's in for the long term by the look of things, so let's start thinking long term as fans.

There might need to be a clear out end of season, or maybe even earlier, so Ollie's going to have to have a good look at everyone, either in training or game time, so there's going to be some experimentation. I'm happy that we should at the very least secure membership of the Football League this year, hopefully with more than a few points to spare, but it simply has to be next season we can now look forward to with relish?

Harold Wilson once said a week is a long time in politics. The same thing could apply to football. A few days ago, I suggested on this forum we had no hope of forward progress without significant change in the boardroom. I am delighted to have had those words firmly rammed back down my throat.

I know there are some fans who are worried that this could be another Mike Newell-type situation in that we have a manager whose appointment has been broadly acclaimed but which turned out to be a disaster. I understand those misgivings. But it is clear that we could not continue as we were. In the short term, at least, this should give a big boost in terms of feel-good factor and positive PR for the club if nothing else. Let's buckle up and enjoy the ride. It certainly will not be dull.

Am glad AL is staying on and deserves the No.2 job to IH, where I think he'll really benefit his career.

Don't think we should underestimate the job he's done.  The fact that EVEN on The Fishy there was debate about the job he was doing, suggests he was doing something right.  The Managers job was probably too early for him. I  believe he helped lighten the cloud that hung over Blundel that gave the Board the time needed to sort out IH.  Without that breathing space, real urgency would have necessitated a speedy - probably a panic appointment.

Thanks Al, good luck and I am positive your time with IH will provide some material for after dinner speeches in the future.

Not a critisism as were all allowed opinions but given our position both professionally and positionally who exactly would have got you " jumping for joy"?

Wasn't sure on the Holloway deal.. but having thought about it getting excited now hopefully we can bring in a proven goalscorer this month.

Glad AL is staying on hopefully the pair can work together think AL deserves credit for holding the fort this past month or so results haven't been great but can't fault the way team was set up etc.

I have some reservations over how his recent career has gone but I will not argue agains this being probably the best PR appointment we could have made. You only have to listen to Talksport going to try and get Town representatives on air to discuss it, Sky coming up to interview IH live on SSN, the buzz about the Town. Neutral fans of other clubs have messaged me saying how it’s a good appointment. Incredible - I’ve never known this for an appointment.

Longer term we’ve probably increased our chances of live TV coverage of League games on Sky tenfold, the national papers will be covering his first game etc. I have reservations but I am on board and will back IH fully. If you can get there, get to BP tomorrow and give him a huge welcome.

Well that is a coup. Was speaking to someone who likely knows his stuff earlier that Holloway was on a million a year at Millwall.

Holloway’s the sort of bloke who will ‘get’ Grimsby but the question is how long before he’s had enough of Fenty. Negative I know but we’ve seen too many bright dawns fade under his regime.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

I felt the same, and so did a lot of people as that is what we have had to endure for years.

There are more ways to skin a cat; either we go down the takeover route which now seems unlikely, or we get a figurehead in to breath new life into the club.

From the Press conference it seems Fenty is determined to get a new stadium with or without new investors, and this appointment will give added impetus to that.

I have been one of Fenty's fiercest critics, but have also said on a number of occasions I will forgive anything if he gets the club moving in the right direction and gives us our dignity back. Holloway's appointment is a huge step forward, which I think will increase the chances of inward investment and a better future and it really is brilliant news.

Things should be much better on and off the field from now on.

Well done to all those involved on both sides, I’m going to be like the players tonight, early to bed, no drink, up at 8.00am, orange juice and toast for breakfast, then a few hours getting in the right frame of mind ready to cheer on the new mighty mariners (2020 style) .

I'll do my usual pregame prep, get p!ssed the night before, order a Donna kebab and cheesy chips, wake up with a raging hangover, nip to maccy ds outside BP, go for a couple of pints in the Blundell Park Inn then get to my seat with a coffee in hand ready to scream obscenities for 2 hours.. My name is.... Mike Newell!!😂😂

All positive.

He gets shares which in turn can be turned into signings as a way round the restrictions. He gets a piece of town to cash in on in his retirement.

Looks like fantastic business all round. Let’s see if we have any signings tomorrow

Of those who were linked to the job, Paul Tisdale would have been my preferred option.

He's a good manager but I think IH is here for the long haul and to become more than just the guy who signs the players and picks the team. He is buying into the long term project and I think that is what excites me more. Tisdale would either fail and leave, or do well and move onto bigger and better things.

Not his exact words but In the press conference he eluded to how to behave after a defeat and that if the players give what they have then he’ll be behind them. It felt like he’s already tuned into the fact that we’ve got a pretty inexperienced squad and the need to eradicate the fear of failure is essential for the players to move forward.

I know we’ve had a few managers that have managed different clubs but this guy has real experience that will support (I hate this term) the project.

Ian Holloway's black and white army - even if we do lose tomorrow. The future is looking brighter - he should be able to tap in on some good players - and rub off the genie lamp.

Good luck with Ollie. As a gashead I love Ollie but he was never coming back to us although lots wanted him before Garner was appointed so good luck. Having Ollie as manager may be many things but it won’t be boring. The football when he managed us was fantastic even if we blew up in the end but he had Cureton and Roberts and it was 20 years ago. Anyway, good luck.
