He’s clearly looking to justify the cheap option.

Just one bit of advice Mr Fenty....you may (in some quarters) have been forgiven one trip to the Conference, you will not get away with another.

What a tool this man is, if he thinks that was better then he's not fit to be in charge of a table football club never mind a "professional" one.

Regardless of who is appointed manager, the common denominator in the last 16 years of utter misery is Mr John Fenty.

Since he took over, the club has managed one top half finish in the FL and spent six seasons in non-league where it never managed to put up a proper fight for the title despite having a top 3 average attendance for the league each season. During that time the two longest winless runs in the club's history were recorded and I would be surprised if this current one doesn't come close.

The ground has been allowed to decay with investment in the facilities this summer being the bare minimum for what you would expect to keep things barely acceptable. Yet we are no closer to a new stadium now than we were in 2004.

A whole generation of fans will have been turned off by the poor but expensive fare. Lots of fans who were die hards or at least regulars have drifted away and found better things to do with their time. Will it be possible to ever tempt them back? Impossible to say but once you get out of the habit of going, I'd imagine it would take a lot to entice you back.

The club has not progressed in any way since he took over, either on the field or off the field. Even within this decade, we started it 23rd in L2, we finish it 21st. Both times in the middle of a long winless run with very little positives to take from the performances. Clearly no lessons have been learnt from our previous flirtation with oblivion. The only success to date in Fenty's tenure is that the club still exists although nobody could say definitively that it wouldn't if he hadn't got involved. Administration would have been almost certain but that doesn't mean the club would have been liquidated. Would that fate have been worse than limping along on life support having his loans and poor management hanging over the club like a dark cloud? To make matters worse, JF apparently thought today was a lot better. He is not fit to make these decisions and should have the humility and self-awareness to accept and admit this.

Each time there has been anyone remotely interested in getting involved with the club or in taking over, he has managed to see them off. I honestly don't believe he wants someone to takeover, his massive ego loves the fact that he runs and owns Grimsby Town Football Club. He'd only consider going if every single penny he ever put in was paid back which is completely unreasonable. If you run a business in to the ground, you generally do not get back all the money your mismanagement has cost you. That's life John and you should know that having previously been a successful business man. And don't give me this guff about making sure the right person takes over. You wouldn't know a good plan for this club if it smacked you in the face, the last 16 years is definitive and comprehensive evidence that you have no idea how to run a football club. But here we are, starting a new decade the way we started this last one; on the verge of another potential relegation and John Fenty, with his complete lack of football knowledge or understanding, choosing the next manager. God help us.

To be fair to Fenty today was better than the last home match for him, he didn't nearly get into a fist fight today.

We've been here before, of course.

Towards the end of Mike Newell's time in charge, the football was utter dross. Tactics were non-existent. It was hit-and-hope stuff.

Neil Woods came in, calmed things down, we looked a bit more disciplined and played a bit more football. It still wasn't great, but we started drawing games and grinding out 0-0s on the road.

However, we forgot how to win games and this became a problem for Woods, even in caretaker charge.

It's exactly the same under Limbrick. Jolley's team selections and tactics were a bit of a mess if we're honest towards the end of his spell.

Limbrick's come in, settled things down, got us playing a little better... but, you know, the same old problem persists.

We can't win a game.

I was totally in favour of giving Limbrick a chance but he's had 8 games now in all competitions and we've picked up 4 points from a possible 24. We've scored just 2 goals.

Eight games is more than enough time to break through any 'unlucky' periods. Fenty has been quoted in the past that a manager is only ever six bad results away from the sack.

Limbrick's had eight games and he might be given the job. That's hypocrisy of the highest order.

Mind you, we shouldn't expect anything less from a politician. They say what you want to hear but are always prepared to do what suits them best.

And if it saves Fenty a few quid then he'll keep Limbrick on until the end of the season.

If we stick with Limbrick then we're risking exactly what we did when we stuck with Woods. Lessons have not been learned.

Well it wasn't hard for AL to make it better than the complete shambles we had become by the end of the MJ reign. I think most of us on here could have made it better just by not being Michael Jolley and sticking to a settled side. Limbrick is a nice guy but he's not cut out for turning this rudderless ship around. The parallels with the Woods tenure are striking. We look neat and tidy but have all the bite of a toothless sheep.
