Could switch to 4-4-2 in attack and drop to a 5-3-2 whilst defending, 2 best crossers of the ball in Hewitt and Robson ..
Have to assume Hanson is ill or get a minor injury...
Need to use Roses pace and put some pressure on their defence but can't help thinking this could be a backs against the wall game tonight...

Wright still not yet fit to play.

Let’s hope that  no star winger, no Hanson = a win for us.

They've just showed Hanson walking in to Rodney Parade with the rest of the players on TV and he looked absolutely fine so it's weird he isn't even in the squad.

when we last played them maybe AL is hoping a change in personnel to stutter their tactics.

What do people see in Hewitt????

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

If you listen to the BBC Wales commentator you’d think we where playing Real Madrid 😌

You can listen to radio Humberside commentary online whilst watching with the sound down. Just needs a little syncing first. Better than listening to the welsh commentators.

The commentators make it sound like these sort of matches Newport have to just complete the formalities for them to be then drawn against the “Big teams”.
I like to think if it was on bbc England shire the commentary wouldn’t be quite so biased.

I always find the commentaries on all the other home nations national teams tends to be a bit more partisan than England’s coverage is. I suppose this is their equivalent of JT and Buckley commentating on it so you can expect it to be positive, balanced and unantagonistic...

A bit of a giant killing if we manage to beat the famous Exciles

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

It’s a pretty dismal spectacle for the neutral but I think we’ve done well in this half. Tight defensively, tried to pass it and had slightly more of the attacking play.

Got to say I don't really like watching Town on TV

Always feel more tense when they're on the box than I ever do at a game itself

Maybe because I'm not giving vent every minute

At least watching Town on telly you’ve got hundreds of channels to choose from whereas at the match you have to watch the match or the boats.

Newport have got Lennie Lawrence on the bench!!

Yeah clearly thinking about how he can spend someone else's money when Newport inevitably win and draw a big team.

I actually think we edged we edged the first half. Two very limited teams though and proper dull to watch.

I was just about to say the same thing about some of our crosses tonight - although nothing wrong with the one from Hess that Cook hit the bar with ( even though had it gone in it would have been ruled out )

Not too disappointed with our first half performance though.... pleased to see us up the field and not camped in our own half

According to the co commentator Nathan Blake this game is there for the taking for Newport. Nice one, given they have looked second best of 2 poor teams.

The crossing is atrocious

Too much air in the ball

I’ve just explained to my sons girlfriend watching her first Grimsby game, this is what they do for a living. They don’t go to work in the morning, this is their job. This is what they are good at.

From their confidence you would think that the national team had just qualified for the European Championships last night - and just up the road.

How can pro footballers consistently fail to put a decent cross in. 2 poor sides but Town have a slight edge on the  first half showing
We need a cup run so we can recruit better quality in January. God it’s boring! Bring back Buckley style football please

I will say again, Newport lost at home to Salford in their last home game.  Newport were awful.  That is all we are up against, if we can only seize the game by the scruff of the neck.

We do because their keeper hasn't been tested at all. Doesn't matter if we've had the ball in and around their box a lot - haven't carved out a single clear cut chance.

Not really sure how sticking Cardwell on improves our chances of scoring but i'm happy for him to make me look like a mug.

If we don’t find something in our overall play
If we don’t improve quickly, quality wise in the next few games
This will be a relegation dogfight season
Newport are v poor but we are worse and we all know very little chance of an equaliser
All is not well with my club

How are we still persisting with Hewitt in midfield? He's a barely serviceable backup fullback and an absolutely dire central midfielder. Playing him there over Clifton is grossly irresponsible.

I guess Limbrick is going to be the same as Wilko was after Slade. We all assumed it would could not get worse because Slade had gone. It obviously can get worse in this scenario as well.

We’ve got nothing. Hewitt in midfield is t*rd. Cardwell a waste of time. Limerick sat motionless on the bench looking defeated. Happy days.

There is absolutely nothing. Defence is shaky, midfield non existent, not able to string two passes together, and the forwards seem disinterested. The last ball for Town has been truly dreadful today.

I don’t see anyone saying he isn’t, but you keep banging on about it.

I’d like to think most professional strikers can hit a goal from 12 yards unmarked.

At least half those players look way below par. Given that we’ve got no budget left, I don’t fancy us to strengthen in January. How are we in this mess??

Limbrick was obviously part of the problem on this showing.

Disgusting free kick. Why are you playing professional football if you can't even put a cross in from a free kick without spannering it straight out for a goal kick?

Need a new midfield and strike force in January but isn’t going to happen, the midfield must be the worst in memory and as for the strikers that’s a misrepresentation as we don’t have any. And yet another  crap cross🤬

Robson? Not sure what he brings TBH.

Town are a side that is completely over coached get a throw in in the Newport half 4 minutes away from going out of the cup and we're too busy trying to "Keep us shape" rather than launching into the box for the cavalry to get after.

Nathan Blake had it right the side has no confidence or idea.

Real Newport 2 - Grimsby Town 0

Joking apart we have a lot of things to sort out and fundamental problems, this side is lacking so  much direction and idea and look paralyzed be fear....... not the players fault they are clearly trying but Jolley and clearly lets be honest on tonight's showing Limbrick have a lot to answer for.

I know we have a few missing but that was woeful.

I truly despair. We are a laughing stock. No heart, no passion, no skill, no hope.
For me it all comes down to 1 man who took over when we were in the championship

I’m guessing Limbrick didn’t want the job after all. Terrible team selection, awful tactics and even worse substitutions. He doesn’t have a clue, let’s hope the board choose a decent replacement in the next couple of weeks.

Oh for a forward line of Arnold, Bogles and Amond with Dis in midfield, how come we had much better players in the Conference years?

Cardwell and Rose will never be good enough, Hewitt is not a midfield player and Cook was never in the game, Robson erratic throughout so Hess basically on his own.

Defence acceptable except for the first goal which was shocking organisation, nothing tonight makes you want to go to BP next Tuesday

Really?
Thought they at least had a game plan & guess what- a striker!!

The amount of times people quote dodgy tactics, bad refs, poor pitch etc etc. when there is a loss.
Laughable really.

Come on Town
Surely to god we have more in our tank than that
Players
Coaching Staff
Management
Directors
Big Big pow wow needed
I really really do not want to hon back to Dover and the like
But on that performance at this moment I cannot see how we will avoid it
Feelings complete opposite to how we felt after Morecombe and Walsall away
On that showing Limbrick we need Tisdale or someone
Not Nolan please

I didn't really expect much from tonight's game and I know Limbrick hasn't had much time as manager but I did expect possibly a change to the way we may set up and play but that second half was possibly the worst we have played all season utter flipping garbage.

Whether we have another manager lined up I haven't heard but defeat in the next two games Limbrick has to go and someone with new ideas brought in so they have plenty of time to see how excrement some of our players are.

Some of those players didn't bust a gut for him tonight.

We are an embarrassment.
That was as bad as its been for the last few years.
No idea whatsoever.
excrement excrement and excrement.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

So many waste of space deadweights for the new man to sort / clear out.

How Rose ever gets in the side I dion't know, he's been given too long as it is. Please ship him out in January Mr new Manager whoever you are.

I wonder how many of those 20 or 30 applicants Fenty claimed will still want the job after tonight?

Jolley must be pissing himself laughing

I've been a fan of Robson but tonight he was as dreadful as the rest especially his free kicks so I couldn't understand whilst at 0-1 and a free kick near the corner flag why the intercourse was he and Hesenthaler stood over the ball it doesn't take too to take a free kick.

He then blasted it into touch.

One man implies we’ve got a bottom scraping budget. One man says it’s top 12. Look at that squad, these performances... with at least 10 players who look seriously below par and tell me where the evidence points...?

Not really a surprise is it.

Laws
Woods
Scott & Hurst
Bignot
Slade
Jolley

6 rolls of the dice and the best we've had is a 4 or a 5. And that was re-rolled several times.

Common denominator?

I’m guessing Limbrick didn’t want the job after all. Terrible team selection, awful tactics and even worse substitutions. He doesn’t have a clue, let’s hope the board choose a decent replacement in the next couple of weeks days.

Amended for you.

How many seasons since Poojah's famous rant and absolutely nothing has changed.

At least we have been spared the embarrassment of a defeat by a team in the 8th tier

Ten years ago this month....just before the board made a monumental error in appointing Neil Woods as manager

The rest is history.... hopefully it won't be repeated

Don't normally agree with you Swin but I reckon we are going to be in another relegation battle.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

I can hardly put into words how bad that was. We were terrible, and i actually think most League 2 teams would have beaten Newport tonight, I thought they were garbage too!

We’re in trouble. Completely missed opportunity for Limbrick. In one showing, he’s messed up his chances. Fenty needs to get this right or that single relegation spot is a serious possibility.

I'm almost lost for words....if that's limbricks idea of going back to basics then we're f@cked...
Maybe I was wrong when I said he no input into tactics and team selection or maybe Jolley started to listen to him and that's why we've gone backwards,!!..
Who knows?...all I know us we need someone of Tisdales ilk quickly, possibly before the weekend because as I have said... limbrick ain't the man to move us forwards....and I say that mainly on how bad his decision making was tonight re substitutions..

Not really a surprise is it.

Laws
Woods
Scott & Hurst
Bignot
Slade
Jolley

6 rolls of the dice and the best we've had is a 4 or a 5. And that was re-rolled several times.

Common denominator?

All the excrement Akheem Rose gets. Green is no better
Fair enough he isn't up to standard but he's got about 20 pro games under his belt and I'd imagine one of the lowest paid players in the squad. Decent cheap player to bring on from the bench with 20mins to go. A few years younger than vernam, I'd have expected him to be the one loaned out
Greens a poor man's Wes Thomas - might be worth trying to loan him out. Stealing a living for me - what numpty signed him

Before the game I thought the manager had until the end of the season. After that i think its more like 1 game, 2 at most

Summed up for me with the close up of Rose laughing with Limbrick just after he had been subbed.
Get the new bloke in. AND SOON.

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

One man implies we’ve got a bottom scraping budget. One man says it’s top 12. Look at that squad, these performances... with at least 10 players who look seriously below par and tell me where the evidence points...?

I think you could pick Jesus Christ Almighty, assisted by Brian Clough (or would it be the other way round?), in the manager's job at Grimsby but it would not make any difference.

We may have a top 7 budget, but if it's all gone on Hansen then the rest of the squad are probably not top half league 2 players.

I would suspect, Hanson, Green and Waterfall are costing a pretty penny thus leaving not a lot left in the pot for any more quality than what we presently have.....this squad is pretty much what we have until the end of the season so whoever comes in needs to be a good seamstress because they've got to try to make a silk purse out of a sows ear

Do you seriously think we have?

It's only since Monday that we've been fed this line.... we've always just been told it's competitive

It's only since MJ's rant about the budget that JF has come along with this line

It may well be the case but where is the proof? It's certainly not out there on the pitch........

waterfall& pollock aside thought the rest abysmal not including macca in that i mean outfield players , really really struggling to count how many times robson overhit crosses , sum's us up at end gibson blazing over excrement night all round

i  thought Macca was as bad as the rest apart from waterfall, pollock and Hess.  Macca does not Boss his area, puts pressure on defenders, his distibution  continues to be suspect. Confidence starts from the back.( just my opinion.)

If limbricks idea to improve us is returning to playing Hewitt in central midfield then ffs show him the door now. He has eyes the same as us, every single one of us can see he isn't a central midfielder. He's utterly anonymous there at best.
Rose isn't good enough to start- he may have a role as sub against a tired defence but he isn't good enough for a starting role.
I wasn't sure were we playing wing backs? Cant tell. if so another reason to show limbricks the door as we have nobody capable of playing that role except maybe hendrie who was injured.
We went to absolute pieces after their goal, no fight and no desire, and no idea either.
urine weak defending from Gibson I think that started the rot for their first.
Relegation battle looms yet again, as there is only 1 spot we should surely have enough so long as limbricks doesn't get it...

I don't like criticising Macca as he does well for us most of the time

He knows his limitations commanding his area but his shot stopping usually more than makes up for that

Tonight though I was disappointed with him in his role as captain

We needed someone taking control, driving players on to give that last ounce of effort but while he is the captain I'm afraid I don't see us having the backbone needed to pull us through when the chips are down

Back to league business on Saturday then.... the dreams of a plum tie in tatters after that second half and I just hope that Limbrick can somehow get something out of the squad he has at his disposal because Northampton away folllowed by Cheltenham at home in quick succession is going to be a tough call for a team so low on confidence and arguably ability

I didn’t have the pleasure of watching such a p.iss poor performance thanks to being at work late but could tell how awful a display it was from the commentary. Limbrick has to go . Another clean start required . Ship out as many of Jolleys crap signings as possible in jan to give the new man half a chance to make 2 or 3 new players who may inject some much needed belief as it feels this lot are just slipping into don’t give a fook surrender mode .
