To be fair, 4 of our last 5 appointments have been non-merry-go-rounders

My selection of Stockdale has nowt to do with him being a past player (if I had my choice for past players to manage Town I'd have Matt Tees as manager and Charlie Wright as his assistant) it is purely because he has at least some experience in coaching / managing without having been around the block a dozen times like all the old out of work hacks that will no doubt be lining up. We can't risk another disaster with a totally unknown 'I talk a good job and I've got a top coaching licence' like Jolley or an old dosser like Slade. Stockdale fits the bill for me
This. There must be a reason Sunderland were always happy to give him the reins whenever they sacked a Manager. Young hungry up and coming manager (hopefully).

| I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas
The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara
I once said Gazza's IQ was less than his shirt number and he asked me: What's an IQ? - George Best |

I have nothing to say for or against Mr Stockdale but, believe me, being given the reins to do anything at Sunderland is no recommendation. The way we've been run for the last several years was evident from the recent Netflix series. The staff at the training ground restaurant seemed canny though; the football side of things not so much, actually not at all really. He did have the good sense to get out when the Hibs opportunity arose so he might be ready for a manager's post. As we all know it's very hard to tell how good a novice manager will be until he's doing the job. Rather him than Kevin Nolan certainly.

Given that supposedly there are 30+ applicants I expect that there will be allsorts of random names in there. How many of those are realistic contenders? Probably less than a handful.

current odds on Skybet. Some interesting ones. I see Chris Hargreaves on the list, but he hasn't managed for a while only punditry. Tisdale, Stockdale or Tim Flowers.
Kevin Nolan 1/1 Anthony Limbrick 2/1 Robbie Stockdale 9/1 Chris Hargreaves 10/1 Paul Tisdale 12/1 Danny Butterfield 14/1 Paul Wilkinson 16/1 Robbie Fowler 16/1 Tim Flowers 16/1 Craig Elliott 20/1 John McDermott 20/1 Russell Slade 20/1 Andy Welsh 25/1 Craig Disley 25/1 Ian Holloway 25/1 Paul Heckingbottom 25/1 Phil Brown 25/1 Russ Wilcox 25/1 Steve Watson 25/1 David Healy 33/1 Harry Kewell 33/1 Nigel Adkins 33/1 Paul Groves 33/1 Pete Wild 33/1 Brian Laws 40/1 Chris Lucketti 40/1 Danny Collins 40/1 Dave Smith 40/1 Lee Clark 40/1 Neil McDonald 40/1 Neil Redfearn 40/1 Richard Money 40/1 Shaun Derry 40/1 Steve Lovell 40/1 Stuart McCall 40/1 Terry McPhillips 40/1

No doubt there'll be at least 20 'Football Manager' applicants, all of who think that they're the first to think of such a bantzy jape.

There are about 36 names on that manager odds list. I wonder how many of them have actually applied for the job (less than a quarter, I'd say).
Also, there's some awful value on those odds. Why on earth would you bet on Nolan at evens?! I doubt anyone's been interviewed yet.
