Just say we find a 20 a season striker, but.... he's openly gay would it make a difference to how us supporters would view him? On the other hand a striker takes a penalty hits it down the middle, McKeown saves with his legs and the follow up shot balloons over, the penalty taker is openly gay. Will he receive homophobic chants?
What are the views on gay footballers?

I don't have a view I do not care if they are gay , black, yellow 9ft tall or 3ft tall,
All I care about is do they want to play for us and always give 100%.
They do not have to be world beaters just give their all for the shirt.

Well as there are no openly gay footballers these scenarios not likely to happen any time soon.
Should any ever come out I'd imagine they'd face stick from the stands initially until it was clamped down on by the authorities with banning orders etc as is the case with racist chanting and there would probably need to be an ongoing 'kick it out' equivalent educational campaign.
But yeah, random thread 😂

In the second scenario and the gay striker ballooned the ball over the bar, in that moment I’m sure the fans would say something like ‘haha you insert expletive here’
Whether that can be deemed as homophobic I’m not sure.
An opposing player has made a mistake and will receive personal ridicule wether he’a fat, tall, black, gay, ginger, blond, from another county, from another country, short......that’s life on terraces.

Yes it does matter
It matters because they are in a town shirt not another teams.

A lot of people saying that "they'd unfortunately get a lot of stick from the stands". As fans we all have a responsibility to call this out and make the bigots who would do this kind of thing feel as stupid and narrow minded as they should be. I was disappointed that the twitter profile which claimed to be a gay footballer coming out turned out to be a hoax as this could have been a ground breaking moment for our sport. At least 10% of the population identify as LGBTQ so it's a real shame to me that there are a significant number of footballers who are living their lives unable to be open about who they are. The sooner this changes the better!

And how many of those are actually gay etc from that denomination? It was proven that people are jumping on the bandwagon because it's trendy to be part of this at the moment. Shocking, but true I mean, people are identifying themselves as broccoli and fu(king caterpillars!

I've seen some crap on here but this must be the worst post I've seen The penalty takers sexuality is irrelevant- why would you want to insinuate what it is on a public forum. Surely this whole thread should be removed
|
| Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong Update: I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly |

Looks like a few heterosexuals have had their feathers ruffled? I thought I'd introduce something different rather than How long has Jolly got ? Who should replace him? What to do next? VAR! This has become a recent issue re Gareth Thomas and the diabolical way a reporter announced to his parents he was HIV positive. Oh well back to my homework and revision for my O levels.

I don't see why or where any feathers have been ruffled and I don't know of the Gary Thomas affair and/or fail to see what the strange original post has to do with anything.
Lots of people have said they tolerant of homosexuals, wouldn't shout abuse and would even tell others to shut up... The Fishy is not so PC that a little light banter on sexual preferences is deemed unacceptable , nobody here I'm sure would identify as being anti-gay or racist.
Seems like OP a homosexual who easily butthurt (no pun intended) at the slightest little joke on the matter. Now coming out here, even hidden behind a keyboard, would be a first I believe and perhaps a step forward?

We've Charles Vernam. Not sure which bus he's on but I'd suggest it's hairy pie central. But if you play him centrally in a 4-4-2 alongside a target man like Hanson and actually give him some service then he would bag your 20 goals by Christmas with another 20 to come.

Don't mind Homosexuals at all but like it rammed in me face at every opportunity screaming they are gay, so flipping what i'm not but i don't feel the need to tell the world and play on it my entire life! Total respect to those who go about life in quietly getting on with things rather than telling the world where they like to park their sausage on an evening.

Yeah. I'm surprised Southgate hasn't picked Vernam yet.
I believe Southgate was due to be in the stand last Saturday.

Total respect to those who go about life in quietly getting on with things rather than telling the world where they like to park their sausage on an evening.
Same as this transgender malarkey, sorry but there's balls or muff. nothing else. Just old school me. not prejudiced
I saw a couple of raving transexuals a few weeks back, in a wheelbarrow screaming and flashing their ' mammaries' outside the old Dolphin, near the roundabout in Meggis. I just thought, okay you're a transexual, just get on with it. I genuinely think they had become frustrated that nobody actually cares anymore so wanted to do something outrageous to ruffle the hetros feathers and stir them up. Probably so they could scream 'ism' at them! They clearly like the attention.

| The wife was going away for a girly weekend. I jokingly remarked 'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football' 'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked She said 'Well you already know how to play football' |

I think this thread is in danger of heading off in the wrong direction with some of the comments being made
I'm not sure why the OP would have raised the issue but I guess it's a legitimate question for the times we live in
Would we support a gay player at the club? We may have had one already for all any of us know ( maybe not ) but as some people have said "give your best when playing for the badge on the front of the shirt and we will give our support to the name on the back"
I really wouldn't care less if we had someone straight or gay stepping up to score a goal that got us promoted through a penalty shoot out for example.... his sexuality should really have nothing to do with his professional ability
It will take a brave man to out himself in the football world though.... there are still lots of homophobes out there and if we had a player who wasn't seeming to be quite good enough ( and lots of fans do have their scapegoats ) and it became public knowledge he was gay, I don't think it would be too long before there'd be some negative outbursts from the stands ( but on the otherhand, I'd like to think there would be plenty who would put down any dissent too)

Say what you want but if you could ask Justin Fashanu about the damage of coming out as a footballer you would get answer you wouldn't want to hear, not only ruined his career but the Sh!te he had ensure after that cost him his life too ..sad, sad alpha make environment where diversity is still shunned upon...

In all seriousness, the way attitudes to mental health and racism have changed in this country over the last 20 years I don't feel the first openly homosexual footballer would be crucified, as many anticipate.
Genuine question, when did any fans last hear monkey chants at a Town game?

I don't agree or at least a current player would admit they were gay if that were true. Racism still exists on the terraces. I must say I have heard no racist chants/language at Blundell Park for many years. I remember bananas thrown on the pitch and not for cramp. Didn't a player leave Town because of alleged racism from a few fans at an away match.

I think we will see a player 'come out' within the next couple of years.
Like it or not Town fans had/have a reputation for being particularly racist over the years. I personally haven't heard any monkey chants for a long while, although I am aware of the odd isolated incident.
Contrary to what this government would like to manipulate, attitudes to minorities groups in society have massively improved.

Toto Nsiala got it at Halifax. There will always be a few morons but by and large things have come a long way I believe.
There is still work to do and will be for quite some time most likely, but whereas racism has been deemed unacceptable by society for quite some time lbgqt issues possibly lacked behind. But I believe attitudes have changed and homophobia now frowned upon to a similar extent racism is.
Football has always been a very testosterone filled 'man's man' world and as such perhaps lacking behind society in general but if footballer's were to be brave enough to come out I believe any initial targeting would be quickly highlighted in the press etc and swiftly clamped down on.
But as with racism, like I said there will always be that minority to contend with but as this thread shows with people saying as such, many normal supporters would no longer tolerate such rhetoric.

I raised this because of what Gavin Thomas went through. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/nov/18/gareth-thomas-victim-homophobic-attack-cardiff-walesHe's raised the issue about football and homophobia. I was also fed up with Jolley out threads.

Did Toto lie though? As chance had it I (fortunately?) missed that Halifax away game despite having planned to go but seem to remember onlookers on here who attended confirming there was indeed racial slurs thrown.
This was many months before Toto decided to leave, I listened on radio and the atmosphere was toxic, it certainly wouldn't surprise me if the racist elements found a platform in all that.
I can first hand attest to Wes Thomas being on the receiving end of a torrent of racist abuse along the touchline that forgettable day at Lincoln when all the hoollies spilled onto the pitch... I was just behind them within earshot and I felt uncomfortable, must have been hell for him. But that went unreported.
