Think Robson is a big miss, he brings something different to the midfield, offers a little more creativity and does well getting forward to support the attack.

That's got 5-3-2 written all over it....have to say I'm a little worried already, Hewitt in midfield again, he's been pretty useless so far in that role ...another square peg in a round hole, hopefully Whitehouse and Green have a good game, nice to see Pollock in there though ..

Well 3 - 5 - 2 was mostly shocking last season. Mainly because to play it you have to have decent wing backs. Perhaps Gibson will be a success in this system.

Bit of a drastic switch seeming as we have not played it all season. Big ask for the players to suddenly switch to what is a very different system. Can only hope Cambridge did not see it coming...

Looks like we're going five at the back and smacking it long to Hanson for flick ons to Green.

Yes looks like a return to 532 and we all remember how those games went, but lets be honest can we really blame Jolley for trying something new after the last few performances? Not holding out much hope, but hope I'm proven wrong

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

5-3-2   ok  as long as H + G keep up in the middle ,. This gives the opportunity for our midfield  to support them either down the wings or through the channels with one of the back 5 covering when required.

i wonder if Hewitt would be the right wing back in a 3-5-2 and Hendrie to have a turn in centre mid?

This is one of those where your comment could easily look stupid in an a couple of hours time, but such a drastic change smacks slightly of desperation and has all the potential to drastically wrong.

Football’s a funny old game as they say, but I can see this not ending well for us tonight. Hope I’m wrong.

Why the intercourse is Hewitt still in the side.
I have been a supporter of Jolly but ffs

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Giant gap between Green and Hanson.
Giant gap between the Midfield and strikers.
Inches between the midifeld and defenders.

Not even 15 minutes in and the amount of room we are giving Cambridge is shocking even if we are away from home.

Whitehouse booked for intentional handball as he hit the ball out of the keepers hands as he ran past him intentionally, like you would to your mate when you were kids for a cheap laugh.

Midfield playing too deep. Too big a gap between front 2 and midfield-no need to when you have 5 at the back. Hendrie not getting forward at all, Hewitt having to cover Hendrie who has a fast winger against him. On the whole not too bad-obviously playing for a point

Watching on ifollow

Trying to stay positive, but we are really riding our luck

The shot off the bar with an easy fluffed follow up, the penalty (decent save) but awful miss follow up.
There is no shortage of effort and closing down, but Hess, Whitehouse, and Hewitt simply doesn’t work (I’m not having a go at them as individuals, but 2 out of that 3 plus a creative player is needed)

You could say the plan is working, but only by luck.

We need to retain the ball further up the pitch and at least give them something to think about.  Maybe bring Ogbu on for Green and play him just behind Hanson, then get Rose on for the last 20?

Gibson (apart from the silly pen foul) and Pollock are our better players, and Macca doing well

We are very good.

At making the other side look very good.

Poor game from us but Cambridge looking dangerous passing the ball nicely lacking killer pass though.

Let's hope we can keep frustrating them and sneak a last.minute winner.

We are a depressing watch. I get the 5-3-2 but zero attacking intent in the midfield selection. Cool must be wondering what he’s done.

He’s such a conservative, percentage football manager. We are anti football.

Plan working so far but pen decision shows how easy it can be to go 1 down to a single mistake if all you do is sit back, Lucky he missed the simple follow up.
Get the idea of soaking pressur but there is no one left up front for us to hit them on the counterattack. Got to say this is as boring and negative as you can get.

Aimless hoofs out to no one, for it to come straight back at us. Poor movement and no creativity, pedestrian at best.

Supporting the Mighty Mariners for over 30 years, home town club is were the heart and soul is and it's great to be a part of it.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

I suppose when the reckoning is done, this won't count as Cambridge getting lucky in the same way as we got lucky when their player missed the sitter after the penalty.

A draw isn't a bad result against a team that would've been high on confidence after Saturday...be nice to get a good result this Saturday and kick on, lose tonight and Saturday then this season could turn really hurtful and become a battle until the end...

Maybe his pace might be the ace up our sleeve?

Well, this has been dreadful to watch but this is the perfect game for Ahkeem Rose as Cambridge push forward for a winner.

I was thinking exactly the same. He should have a lot of space to run into.

Good break for Town but amounts for nothing as our movement and passing are so poor

I will ask the same question I did Saturday
What the intercourse is Hewitt still doing on the pitch??

there's a good argument replace Hewitt and Whitehouse for fresh legs for the last 15 mins.
But he's left Clifton out entirely, so there's only Cook to bring on, unless he goes for a striker.
which he never seems to do

If the BBC stats are anything to go by we've only had 2 less shots than them. 2 less on target. Hmm.

A serious talent. Did really well to recover from a misplaced pass in the first half. Easy to forget just how young he is.

Much more even 2nd half, and we looked better going forward.

Pollock excellent, but Waterfall really talking the back 3 (or 9) through the last 5+ minutes

Good result to be fair, but looks less impressive in a points sense we you say 1 from last 12.
Still, they should all take confidence from a resilient display

Saturday still a big game

Cracking point gained that which most on here would have settled for two hours ago.

I wasn't there and didn't watch from home but not one for the purists from the sound of it.

Stopped the losing the losing steak and kept a clean sheet. Upwards and onwards.

Please Michael - 442  on Saturday with Mary starting at the back and one of Robson or Cook in the middle of the park with Hess - and pace on the flanks. Talking of which...when's Max back? If fit, Max on one flank and one of Rose, Charles, Ogbu...or dare I say it...Ring (we've tried everything else!) on the other.

I'd have taken that before the game. Of course, I didn't go or watch it online so it's easy for me to accept a point from what sounds a poor performance.

There were some good performances, it was a plan we went not to get beaten. There is merit in all kinds of play. We defended well and had luck.

Well done Michael Jolley. Set up not to concede  and we still created some good chances. The players really put in a shift although not pretty. A good win and performance on Saturday and things are looking ok again

Seeing though we went with a 10 at the back tonight they played well under the instructions of Russell jolley to hoof it were ever and whenever possible.

Only following orders but my god there is defensive negative football ll then there is tonight.

Yes we defeated very well but that is one part of the game.
Our passing, movement and work off the ball is flipping terrible.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

He saved a pen
Why would he not be MOM???

Their opinion on what they saw...

They did say Macca's save was worthy of the MOM but they had praised Pollock for the whole game

I'd say it was a close call but apart from the pen maybe Macca didn't have too much else to deal with because of the defence in front of him

Horrible to watch, crowd wont cope if he sets up and plays like that on Saturday, glad I didn't have to part with hard earned dosh to see that tonight. Good result though, win at home, draw away that gets you to the playoffs easily, Pollock must play when fit and Hewitt should not be in midfield. No one played badly but it was just Meh.

And so, after a brief spike in hope and ambition, normal service is resumed at GTFC, where every point is precious to help us avoid relegation and the chances of getting anything from Saturday’s home game with mighty and massive Cheltenham are thin. Well done Town. Better than last week. 1 more vital point towards safety.
Turd. Waste of time.

So what’s the solution? Give up any hope on them ever being a force to be reckoned with? Or stick with them as we’ve always done, with blind faith that one day, our time will come again?

I’ll take the latter course I know no other way, but accept that not everyone will.

I watched online and pollock was brilliant, starting to think we might have another Ryan Bennett on our hands, 18 years old and were a better team with him in it

Macca - 9 Solid game
Hendire - 8 Thought he did pretty well and regained some form
Ohmen - 9 Was outstanding for me especially after Saturday
Pollock - 9 Really only 18? one mega prospect
Waterfall - 8 Steady
Gibson - 8 Would have been a 9 but for the penalty
Whitehouse - 4 Couldn't pass the ball for Toffee and looks out of his depth, Robson much better
Hess - 6 Steady display but absolutely no help from the rest of the midfield and plays deep so cant effect the forward line
Hewitt - 6 Actually one of his better games in midfield but still not great, no problem with him at right back but not a mid for me.
Green - 8 I ve been critical of him lately but thought he kept and used the ball better despite having limited service, no understanding with Hanson though which is worrying and Ogbu maybe a better fit
Hanson -7 Won plenty of headers but missed a sitter, think he needs to communicate with his striking partners a bit more as they always seem to be miles from him.

Subs
Akheem - 8 Did ok and offered a threat, think he needs a run of games at some point up front but is that likely?
Davis - cant say much for the few minutes he was on.

Ha! Was thinking the same golfer.

Last night reminded me of the cannon fodder conferences teams who would come to BP, never attack and waste time all throughout the match to try and hang on for a 0-0.

Chelsea away - fine.

Cambridge away - pretty depressing.

Let's not beat about the bush - i'm usually pretty positive, but that was drab as hell...good excuse to catch up with mates, but a waste of money otherwise.

We look so rigid and devoid of ideas going forward, and panic whenever we're in possession. So many times a ball was put into an area where the player with the ball thought someone should be, rather than just looking up and seeing where they actually are. That and hopeful punts. Ahkeem coming on, and frightening them with his pace/trying to force them into errors looked our most likely chance of scoring, aside from the Green/Hanson chance, which one of them should've buried.

As it stands though, I’m happy to try and see the bigger picture and realise we needed to stop the rot first and foremost. If we can kick on from here, then that’s all good. And given how the match played out, I’m happy with the point. Just a bit depressing how we offered so little and they were all over us, for all of the match.

I thought Cambridge were similar to our style of play, admittedly they played some nice passes from the back, but their final plan seemed to be, to cross the ball to their strikers, which played into our hands, consequently few chances.

I completely disagree, now there may be some on here might suggest some of my comments are on the negative side but I thought the positives from last night's performance certainly outweighed the negatives.

The three centre-halves were giants all game, the players throwing themselves in front of shots certainly looked to me like they were playing for the team and the manager.

Yes I wouldn't look for that type of game going forward much but on the night I was really pleased.

Don't disagree that we defended well, and the players were committed to the cause. But if the only positive thing we can take from it is the fact we didn't concede and we defended well (for pretty much all of the game), then that's pretty drab, to me.

I'm still trying to figure out how the Cambridge player missed that rebound from the penalty last night.

It was far easier to score.

I agree Les. Looked so awkward, leaning back and probably panicked after the initial miss.

In all fairness he set the team up not to lose and try and nick a goal, i scored them based on the tactics. Tactics made the game dour but the players did as instructed.
Pretty obvious but the selection and formation! Better than a loss and we could have won.

I wish we had the crosses coming in but what do you expect with no wingers. If Hanson had been their striker with crosses coming from the baseline he would have scored a hatfull
