Starting to get a bit fed up with Jolley blaming the players for bad results . stating the players need to go back to basics. Well it should start with you Mr Jolley, try picking the right team with players in there best and natural places , and stop moving players about to shoe horn your mates in the team. Hoofball does not work with no one near Hanson especially with the midfield you have been picking and strikers to far away.. I know that winning well at exeter may have been a flash in the pan but you never gave it a second chance , I have played under some good sunday league managers and at the moment they would run rings round you just by starting with the players in the right place on the pitch.. Think about this . if your car breaks down on the motorway and the garage sends a plumber to fix it would you be happy ????. So get your bit right before you have a pop at the players. And if you are starting to feel the strain now , buckle up sunshine it can and will get a lot worse, ask previous managers

The team that started at Exeter should have been the team that started against Mansfield. Pollock & Rose deserved to keep their place, end of story.

I remember when Hurst used to get caned on here every week for playing 4-4-2 and being too basic & predictable, out-thought, never having a Plan B and being “tactically inept” according to the Brian Cloughs and Fergies on here.
Ah the good old days.

Stability and everyone knowing their jobs used to each other instead of a different face next to them every week. It doesn't necessarily have to be basic, but it should be effective - punts to Hanson with no one to mop up around him not going do well.
I was a fan of Hurst in the main but a plan B when things not working out would have been helpful then.
We have the ability in our squad now to try a couple of different methods but they need to be well drilled to be effective, everyone knowing their role.
We football fans and this is our hobby having opinions on formations etc, but it's always the case that when things not going to plan the opposite or a different idea is mooted as the answer. Just like a player not in the team often deemed as a potential saviour to our woes!

He was tactically inept. Hurst plays the percentage game so that means his Plan B is bring on a defender in midfield to try and salvage a point when you are winning. The similarity with Jolley is that both give too much respect to the opposition. Hurst did it by picking his strikers who would play as the first line of defence, Jolley does it by making his team selections like his lottery numbers.
