No harm in having a match thread surely.

GTFC XI this evening: McKeown (c), Hewitt, Davis, Pollock, Ring, Whitehouse, Cook, Vernam, Rose, Green, Ogbu.

Subs: Russell, Gibson, Waterfall, Hessenthaler, Cardwell, Starbuck, Adlard.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Starting with 5 strikers.

Surprised it's such a strong line up, think Vernham needs to show up tonight or I can see him being left in the wilderness...

Sounds like Green has had a couple of good chances to score.

totally intentional...haha...sounds like we are sitting in two banks of four and launching it quickly towards Green . As the commentators are "neutral" its hard to get an idea of who is playing well or badly as they can't easily name who does what. Not getting alot of possession but apparently looking quite solid in the two banks of four...Green wasted a couple of chances by the sound of it and Rose also making the wrong choice when presented with a chance.

Sounds like the commentators have seen every side of Macca

Going walk about and nearly getting caught out but then playing well as a sweeper of sorts

Flapping at a cross when he maybe could have caught it

Pulling off an exceptional save

They’re getting their money’s worth 😉

Mixed feelings for me. Naturally pleased whenever Town do well, especially against what looks like a fairly strong Sunderland line-up which includes several million pounds worth of talent (Will Grigg alone was £4m) but at the same time I'm keen to be of this competition as soon as possible.

I haven't attended a single EFL Trophy game since the 'elite' clubs were introduced and I don't intend to anytime soon, but I'd hate the dilemma of potentially opting not to watch Town in a Wembley final if we got there.

Peter Bore played over 150 games for Town.....Rose certainly won't.  Bore certainly earn't his place and held his place, in different positions under a few different managers. He is much maligned but gave creditable service and sometimes exceptional service during his time.

Could he have gone further ? Application issues ? Maybe... but he wasnt as bad as many people seem to remember.

You’re right Moosey

If I remember correctly he was POTY one season when he was a pretty consistent & competent right back

Combine that with the goals he scored he certainly had some ability but his demise as a professional was more about application and attitude than his aptitude

FT...Sunderland 3-2 Town

Pleased we lost in the end, the sooner we are out of this competition the better

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

One thing that i do find odd is that the party line was we are in for this comp, its a lifeline, potential football fortune, Wembley opportunity , not the thin edge of the wedge , don't boycott etc etc....but every single game we have put out weakened sides.
For a comp that we have been preached to support our record against what is everyone elses b or c team is awful.

If the club genuinely want to progress in it why not play the first team in at least one of the games which should give a high percentage chance of winning some money.

Whole thing is a farce.

Thought you played well last night, was particularly impressed with young Pollock at the back. Had a very good game and dealt with both McNulty and Grigg very well.
Was also impressed with McKeown once again, clapped at one or two shots, but pulled off a top save in the 1st half.

Didn’t think Sunderland were much to write home about to be honest, very average and looked to pass the ball into net far too often.

Who was that striker you’ve got, is it Ogbu? Definitely don’t see much promise from him. Was caught wandering about a bit too much and giving away stupid passes.

Sounds like the commentators have seen every side of Macca

Going walk about and nearly getting caught out but then playing well as a sweeper of sorts

Flapping at a cross when he maybe could have caught it

Pulling off an exceptional save

They’re getting their money’s worth 😉

I listened to the game on BBC Newcastle and Danny Collins was the co commentator. He said one game last season when the data from the activity vest the players wear was downloaded it showed that Macca had covered more ground than “one of the forwards”. Guessing it may be Thomas after he had decided he didn’t want to be here any more.

Ooer Mrs, just listened to Jolleys post match interview and he was proper spikey with James(the interviewer)...sounds like he's getting frustrated with something or someone, not quite sure which tbh though...

Does that also include the ground he covers when he has to leap into the Osmond Stand to recover the ball.
