Have a look at the map here:

Our whole side of the country is devoid of anyone. Only Daniel James is vaguely from our part of the world. Does that just reflect the relatively low population of the east side of England? Or are people east of the A1 just no good at football?

Interesting but it has always been the case. The population centres are obvious. Once you get east of Nottingham and Doncaster the numbers thin out apart from the North East corner.

More significant is the number from outside the UK.

large swathes of Russia /Eastern Europe , America, Canada, Africa, Asia also pretty much empty. The way the Premier League has been going i am suprised there are as many English footballers as there are even now.

I'm not surprised there is a player called Fikayo Tomori, but I am a bit surpised he's the Canadian player listed (Calgary, Alberta).

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

The North West has always been a football powerhouse. There's a lot of fields out east!
