Here and finding it reassuring that if things with Blundell park ever go mammaries up we could slap together a league 2 standard ground with a bit of scrap corrugated iron and a few support beams from ikea

Not always the case though. Remember the old Baseball Ground

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Knock on wood, but we've started well. Pressing high pinning them back. Refs having a good game as well, letting all those 50/50 niggly foul/challenges go and just letting them play football.

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

I should of knocked on wood harder. Did it take a slight deflection to beat Macca?

The main problem being we have no midfield. It's a collection of defenders punting the ball up or taking long shots.

He might put Hendrie at centre half and Hewitt at right back to improve the crossing. Hendrie has been poor.
We need to get behind them and turn their defenders. They look poor but they've had nothing to worry about

Problem is we don't have any players maybe other than Cook on the pitch who are capable of running with the ball and forcing them onto the back foot. Vernam is half decent at it but can't get in the team.

Our off the ball moment tonight has been appalling by the way. Whole team is static when we have the ball in their half. Making it easy for Salford to defend.

Bizaare substitution. Mattie Pollock on the bench, why on earth would you no go for the straight swap. Looks like he's switching Hendrie to left back, putting Gibson at centre back and Hewitt right back? I don't understand that. Instead of the one like for like change, you've two players out of position.

Well that first half was bloody frustrating.

We've been strong second half this season though, let's hope it continues.

well what a weird half, not sure if itst he surroundings but seemed like a training game, slow paced , no one really busting a gut....Salford aren't showing anything but have scored from a sh1tty free kick....not sure if it was pure Macca error or a deflection on the way through.
Apart from one cross into Green early doors which he should have scored from we have done little....some real slow paced passing posession in which we hardly go forwards and then just some lumping it...Hanson is well marshalled, Ogbu not with it, Green not getting service....but Salford sitting in deep and getting men behind the ball which our one paced players cant break past and the bits that drop off Hanson are smothered by their numbers.
Hewitt may give us some extra dimension on the overlap but so far despite looking the better stronger side we have hardly mustered an attempt at goal.

Bizaare substitution. Mattie Pollock on the bench, why on earth would you no go for the straight swap. Looks like he's switching Hendrie to left back, putting Gibson at centre back and Hewitt right back? I don't understand that. Instead of the one like for like change, you've two players out of position.

Surprised at the time of the substitution, thought he could have gone with 10 until HT possibly a knee jerk reaction to bring on Hewitt? Maybe could have thought it through over the break

Ohman had pulled up and couldn't move so Gibson knocked it out so we could sub him off

Salford really are nothing 1-0 up without doing anything. Its like we're playing a 6-1-2-1 formation at times, when we have had possesion at the back sometimes both Cook and Hess have been stood between our centre halves so when we send it forward the half clearance always drops to Salfords midfield with no pressure, Hopefully we will have a proper go at them 2nd half. Assuming Gibson or Hendrie going to play centre half. If we play as well as we can we could win at a canter, but Salford are v quick on the counter.
Hers hoping for another comeback

On the stats we've been all over them but they have the all important stat unfortunately...
Moses is having a bit of a mare and Cook isn't quite as sharp as he has been, Green still looks like he's not right but Gibson is class..
We need to get at them and push on their defence, when we did they looked really shaky...just hope our second half performance is that of every game so far this season..

Our midfield is too defensive. We should be moving up as a three when we are attacking. No continuity between the three sections. Maybe we can get more down the wing and accurate crosses now Hewitt on.

Oldham revisited.
Gibson has looked poor. Must be a case of trying to please Newcastle by playing him. Would prefer ring. Would even more prefer Hendrie at left back and Hewitt rb. Hendrie balls forward have been v poor in their half so hopefully improve down that flank now Hewitt on.
Whitehouse hardworking but lacking in quality. Cook has been full of energy but very sloppy with his passing. Somehow he seems better as an impact player, but so does Wright so maybe we will have to rely on him coming on today?
The front 3 haven't really geĺled tonite.
I really hope we can come back with a couple of goals a la oldham but not letting 1 in to go one beter

Gibson is the only player on the pitch whos manged to pass the ball more than 5 yards to his own teamate unlike Cook, Whitehouse, Green, Ogbu  Hansen or Hendrie

Not sure what Gibsons done to deserve that review? I think bringing Hewitt on is an attempt to get better delivery in the last third. Ive seen lve seen liitle thst impresses me from whitehouse so far.

The only bright spot is that Salford don't look like scoring if we don't give away any silly free kicks. Need to get the players motivated because a few don't look like they are there to play today. Lots of aimless, slow paced passing around and not enough taking the game to them. They aren't particularly convincing defensively it's just we have not given them much to deal with.

Frustrating watch this. Salford happy to let us lose the ball ourselves after 30 pass ‘moves’ before an aimless/brainless ball forward to someone who’s not arsed enough to even think about moving for it. I don’t understand the sub but at least Hewitt isn’t playing centre mid. Ohman looked gutted.

WTF
VAR by 4th official
What a load of balderdash

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

If they have 3 or more men in a wall, you're not allowed within a metre of them until the ball is played. Stupid if Green didn't know that (and Jolley should surely have made sure he did).

Oh well let's hope it spurs them on to raise the intensity.

How does the 4th official see the distance Green is at the side of the wall? He was standing on the halfway line. He wasn't in the wall or interfering in play so it's a really weird choice. When do you see the 4th official making game decisions?

The only reason he did is because he had the Salford bench in his ear. Probably wants to get himself some autographs and notes in the back pocket from the board.

He can offer his opinion to the referee.
He obviously took it onboard, need to be smarter.

He can offer an opinion yes. He can not try to influence the referee to change his decision or to make a decision. He was not asked for his opinion, he pushed the referee to change his decision after calling it a goal like a VAR official would. He's not examining VAR to make that sort of call, he made that call from the halfway line after words with the Salford bench.

Ogbu has been terrible! Doesn’t look interested at all but somehow manages to stay on the pitch after 3 subs used

Jolley arguably has more quality in this squad than we’ve seen in recent seasons but we look woefully short of any control or composure in midfield and again our passing is nowhere near good enough.

The reality though is that their keeper has had a pretty easy night.

Agreed. One routine tip-over from Green and that's it.

Lack of quality in the final ball once again

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

This is one of the must frustrating Town games I have ever seen.

Salford are for the taking and we just aren't at the races.

The front 3 have been bad tonight 🙁

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

LDL.
1 point from last 9 available.

Let's get the Chelsea game out of the way and they might start thinking of the bread and butter games again.

Two teams who are not very good and hardly looked capable of scoring. Only difference in the end is their free kick wasn't disallowed. 4th official applying the new rules only when it's to the advantage of the team that can get him Beckham's autograph.

That said, we didn't really turn up tonight. Looked completely disinterested for most of the game and failed to string any attacking moves together. Subs a bit strange really, didn't seem made to change anything.

The quality of our passing was very poor, either giving it away or just aimless balls into nowhere. Thought Max might have made a difference bring some pace to the flank but despite massive 2nd half possession we didn't really hurt them.
Beaten by a very average Salford so early optimism is evaporating

Utter crap and not for the first time in the last few games. Not sure getting the Chelsea game out the way is going to help either if I’m honest as we don’t seem to vary much. Fresh ideas needed.

Robson has to start for me, looked comfortable and wanted to play forward all the time, something we miss.
Defence has to have Hendrie LB, Hewitt RB, Gibson played well today, but mainly because not much defending needed, but he did well.
Ogbu is a central striker, not a winger. Vernam deserves a run in the front 3 now.

Waterfall is a unit, always looks comfortable.

Ogbu absolutely awful tonight.

Unfortunately Ogbu seems to be another Jolley favourite, how the Christ he didn't substitute him for Wright and get at their right back is beyond me...
Poor substitutions all round tonight for me, yes we peppered them with possession but for the first time this season I thought we looked dreadful in the final third...is the Chelsea game in too many players heads I wonder...

All the possession in the world, and looked very comfortable but just could not break them down.

Green and Ogbu both had poor games. Hanson wasn’t great but neither was the service to him.

Kris - how can you say disinterested?
They worked their bollox off but there was a lack of quality
Front three were poor
Midfield too deep
One bad goal
Not much luck

Vernam
Wright
Robson
Play them saturday
Needs freshening up and we need more quality

Really? All this boll.ox negativity ! I thought we played well tonight and knocked the ball around well . Long balls to Hansen ? When ? I didn’t see hardly any ffs !! It’s just the usual boll.ox that gets churned out by the doom mongers who need to get their heads out their ars.es . Any other day that free kick doesn’t get disallowed and we go on and win . We made Salford look shi.te . Sorry if that upsets the more vocal members on here but you make yourselves look stupid with your boring shi.te that falls out your mouths just because we lost .

I'm a massive Vernam fan but I don't think he deserves to start. He hardly ripped up trees playing against the filth in the daft cup last week, needs to do more and take more responsibilty, we needed Max Wright on tonight instead, Ogbu's touch was shocking tonight.

It was crying out for Max to go at them with pace and turn the game like he did against Macc. Hess is covering the ground of two players which helps as we have a few passengers. For me we need to give Vernham a go instead of Green .

Green, Ogbu, Whitehouse  utter shite tonight. If Hanson beaten in the air like tonight we are done for as we have no other plan. Best chance we had was by our goalkeeper FFS

Or actually get someone close to Green when he’s on the ball.

Saturday may see changes but in reality the most important change is a shape changes so we don’t end up getting pinned back and compressed.

Beat by luck, first half negativity and a bent 4th official. We must never start another game without Hewitt at right back when hes fit, and Wright should have been on rather than Vernam who I still dont think produces anything whatsoever. Really annoyed tonight nwith how a sh1tt team like Sallyford could have even got a point from us.

Half the time they're moaning because we play hoof ball, the other half they're moaning because we don't acheive anything with possession. Where did this sudden belief that we're Barcelona come from? Have they not been paying attention for the past 13 years?

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

How many times did the midfield force their way into their penalty box. Salford sat back and let us attack them as they had planned. Our midfield should have been pushing up and dominating the midfield but no they sat back leaving a void in midfield. Hess has been our consistently best player but are we playing him as a third centre back because numerous times he was our last line of defence. He is obviously playing to orders . Several times he was seen urging us forward but he himself should have been playing more forward. Although his crossing wasn't as accurate as it has been Hewitt showed how you can get down the wing. Several times he caused them problems  Every player ran their guts out so it is either they are not good enough or the problems lay off the pitch with the tactics.  A captain is on the pitch for a purpose and it is very hard for a goalkeeper to motivate a team - so ?

So it's the fault of having a goalkeeper as captain now? Didn't seem to be any issue prior to the last two games.

its not wrong....it was a bit pathetic...but as i said i was fking fuming...second game in quick succession where we have looked awful going forward...at Oldham we were terrible all round but scraped a draw, last night we weren't awful until the final third where we just looked hapless.
Defense and midfield dominated 3/4 of the pitch but when it came to what to do beyond that we looked inept, that is much more frustrating than getting soundly beaten, we had so much of the ball, so much of the territory but hardly troubled their keeper.
