Rueing my decision not to renew my season ticket this year. I'd be lucky and surprised if the tickets make it as far as me on the Tuesday for the 2 x stub category!

I'm hoping they make it as far as General Sale!!

Fair play to Chelsea with the cheap tickets on this one, so if capacity is 41,160 and just 1,600 left that's 5,118 to us that's 35,882 gone already - be interesting to know how many of that number are season ticket holders at Chelsea

Looks like they want to experience some REAL football for a change...

'I walked in the dressing room. The window was open and I thought that a sea fret had got in. Then I saw smoke billowing from a pipe in the corner of the room...it was my centre-forward. He looked seven stone wet through. He went on to score thirty-odd goals that season.' Lawrie McMenemy on encountering the legend that was Matt Tees.

Surely that figure is until they sell out the open parts of their ground? Can't believer they've got 35k tickets sold already...

We receive 45 % share of the gate receipts, even at only a tenner and cheaper to get in a sell out at Chelsea would be a nice little earner if it was to happen.

I make it something like £130K or am I way off the mark ?

I would imagine that a lot of dads will be taking their kids at these prices. Might explain why they have sold so many.

Oh yeah, now modified how much money we would receive in gate money

Will it be on TV?

No prize money until semi finals, why is everything for the elite.

So lets assume there is a 50/50 split between adults and kids that means more or less on a 40000 attendance ( I think it's more likely to be more over 20s than under to be honest )

20,000 @ £10 =  £200,000
20,000 @ £ 5  =  £100,000

If we get a 45% share of the gate then comes to £ 135000

Given Fenty said last night we would be nowhere near getting a six figure pay out, just how much are expenses for staging this fixture?

The presenter on RH ( Chris Cooper I think it was ) also mentioned the spin off with merchandise that GTFC could capitalise on ( assuming of course that folk don't already have shirts etc)

It could just be me but I would think as a one-off footballing fortune windfall we should still do pretty well financially out of the tie no matter what spin our director(s) may put on it

2 recent 3rd Round League Cup ties, albeit against Bolton and Forest both attracted gates of over 40,000. They have given us the maximum away allocation, so it seems that their fans do turn out for these games.

There's going to be hundreds of stewards and police there, plus numerous other staff who need paying. It doesn' take many peoples wages to get down to a five-figure amount.

I think the biggest reason we won't get much money out of it is the tickets are so cheap. Hopefully we'll make more in Round 4

28k turned up for the fa cup game - their average that season was 25k. We took A few thousand

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

I would not know about that, but he always gives the impression that any money that doesn't come from him isn't as important.

Surely the correct thing to say is "what a fantastic fillip this extra revenue will be for the club - it will enable us to do xyz"

From what I believe, any money is due to go on heightening the floodlights as advised by the council

Well if we make 100k from this that’s enough for a very good player at this level .
We’ve missed these big cup games , it’ll put some of our younger players in the shop window and give the team and the fans a buzz .

You might disagree with me here but id rather us use it in other areas than just on one player.. Whether its 2-3 players or to improve something in the background or even put it into the bank and say to the lads "win promotion and you'll all get your share" if they dont then put it towards the next season(s) budget

Let's be honest, if you were Fenty you'd see this as an opportunity to chip away at your own benign loans.  Whilst a new owner may well sort that out in one fell swoop, that may never happen, which means Fenty would have to sit out quite a few season until he gets his money back.  At the rumoured 200K/year he's taking out of the club, another 100K would be very welcome in his back pocket, I am quite sure.

This isn't a dig at Fenty either, it's just a likely business scenario, that's all.

Having said all this, let's hope it's sat there for MJ to reinforce the squad in January if necessary, you never know......

There is no Chelsea tickets thread.

As a long-term Trust member, there appears to be no priority given for tickets for Trust members.  Nothing published anyway that I can find.  Someone will correct this view if this is not the case.

I have my Crewe ticket which at least takes priority over general sales.

There is no Chelsea tickets thread.

As a long-term Trust member, there appears to be no priority given for tickets for Trust members.  Nothing published anyway that I can find.  Someone will correct this view if this is not the case.

I have my Crewe ticket which at least takes priority over general sales.

Yes just keep all things Chelsea related on here, where possible of course

So Trust Members got to wait till next Wednesday and then general sale on the Thursday - which is what I will be waiting for!

Had a look at the MEX package to see if it was worth my while getting it now. I know it comes with bells and whistles but basically it’s £149 for 6 home tickets (not bothered about the add on benefits), so really the only plus is to improve the chance of getting a cup ticket (no guarantee). That’s a premium on the pay at the gate price of £22.

F I, it is reasonable for an initial surge of tickets sold to STHs.  They form the bulk of the fans.  Given it is a midweek game, I can see a lot of school-children and older fans not going.

Tickets sales should slow-down over time.  Just do not be at the end of general sales.  Risky.

As a STH I still can’t understand why STH get 2 tickets for 1 stub. There must be a reason I’m sure.

Nor me - I also can’t see why the MEX and SST holders could turn up today having ‘pledged support’ (appreciate this isn’t a great phrase) for 6 games when season ticket holders have for 23. Hypothetically these tickets all could have gone today with some people buying the smaller packages to allow them to get the tickets but someone who isn’t a member but has been to all games this season has to wait until Tuesday. Should always be STHs on their own first in the queue IMO.

Still don't think we'll see the whole allocation. I bet at least a third of the 2k sold already are the 2nd ticket the ST holder can get. I'm certain it'll see general sale.

It is only Chelsea. If it was Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham or obviously Man Utd, it’d be chaos. I think we might sell them all, but not until after general sale starts.

Errr - only Chelsea? You mean the current Europa League holders, European champions as recently as 2012, current Champions League entrants and one of the dominant forces of English football of the last 20 years? That Chelsea?

Man City - best team in the World
Liverpool - European champions
Arsenal - north London, easier to get to, bigger, better stadium
Spurs - best stadium in the world
Man Utd - biggest club in the world, haven’t played them since the 30’s/40’s.

I’d definitely say Chelsea are less desirable, personally.

From a personal point of view I’d have preferred Liverpool & Man U away for the gate money, then Spurs or Arsenal for the convince, The Emirates is only half an hour away from home.

All that said I’m really pleased with Chelsea who wouldn’t be 3rd in the Prem, European Trophy winners and some excellent players.

Really looking forward to it for both the fans and the Town players.

Who knows maybe we’ll draw one of the other teams mentioned above in the next round😉

Yep, you’ve sold me. I’m taking my tichets back and waiting until we draw one of the above. Public transport should be much improved by 2034 anyway, so even easier to get to.

Just a few quotes from one of the Chelsea forums.

Quoted Text
Got tickets for this one. A tenner!!! They're never a tenner!!

Quoted Text
Loads of us going to this including some who haven't been in years can't argue with a tenner. Pretty sure first season Roman took over it was either £30-35 for a cup game.

Quoted Text
Exactly!!! It's usually 25 for a think 30 for FA. Plus when consider a burger is about 6 quid.. Bargain! Just hope no stupid ending..

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a biggy and I can’t wait either, but it’s just a smidge outside of top echelon for me, that’s all. Still very grateful we’re in it at Round 3, and Chelsea is a damn good draw nonetheless.

In a way I'm pleased the prices are so low. Lots of traditional fans priced out over the last 25 years or so. On the negative side, it means less chance of getting in the home stands if we sell out - and less chance of coming out with our good looks if we do get in.

My point is this: it’s an away game against one of the elite clubs in this country. Factoring in that Man City were by no means an elite club the last time we played them, this is only the fourth time this has happened since we last played Chelsea back in 1996.

For the record, the other games were Liverpool (97), Liverpool (01) and Arsenal (01). That’s almost 18 years since we last drew a big club away from home (soz Palace, but y’know...).

I hear you that the other clubs you mentioned might have been more attractive in one way or another, but Christ, it’s like handing a homeless man a bottle of plonk and him kicking off that it’s not a vintage champagne.

We’ve been eating cold chips out of the bin for two decades man - even if it’s Frankie & Bennie’s tonight rather than a seven course tasting menu at the Ritz, let’s be grateful for what we’ve got shall we?

Beggars can't be choosers! It'll sell out or pretty darn close of that I'm sure.

As for less chance of getting in the home end, I'd make that no chance as they already as good as sold out with only a thousand left earlier.

I've just purchased some "insurance tickets" in the West Stand lower (in with chelsea fans unfortunately) so I can at least guarantee getting into the stadium.
Because the tickets are only £10 thought that would be sensible approach if I can't get anything in the general sale next week.

Of course, I'm hoping to get away end tickets - not sure what I would do if Town scored and I was surrounded by Chelsea fans..

I see on the official site we’re going to be in The Shed?

The last time I went to Stamford Bridge ( the 3-2 win) there was no way I’d have gone in there, their home end.... I went in their side stand with their fans that afternoon and that was feisty enough for me!! 🤭

Question re tickets please:

We are 2 exiles with Crewe match stubs.  I have Trust membership (as does my wife, but she does not know it).

Wed is our day for trying to get tickets.  Normally, I would take my chances for getting tickets by telephoning and being patient and persistent.

The official site says that telephone applications will only be dealt with after “over the counter sales have been processed”.  This presents a severe risk of not getting tickets.  For exiles who live away anyway.

The only safe option is to set off off very early and queue for tickets.  The arrangement on the official site is “one Chelsea ticket per single stub or Trust membership”.  If I am at the ticket office on Wed on my own with both stub tickets from Crewe and my Trust membership (as backup)  CAN I GET TWO TICKETS?

I cannot ring the club and clarify the arrangements for issuing 2 tickets to 1 person (with stubs for 2 people)  as they are not dealing with calls!

I could not get a mini-season ticket either as my wife has been very ill and I could not guarantee going to any games this season.

Use the online system on Tue Evening that way your order can be processed first thing Wed when the ticket office opens.

Very similar to my scenario. I’m not an exile but I am a Trust member and I have two Crewe stubs - I’m off to the ticket office on Wednesday in need of 3 tickets.......

I am a part time supporter with no stubs. I think the ticket system is unfair. I should get first dibs to try and get my regular support. Season ticket holders have paid up front so can afford to urine them off.

I think it's a little unfair you could be best buddies with a season ticket holder and nothing but a part time fair weather fan and get your hand in before a lot of the hard core who go to every game they can home and away but maybe can't have a season ticket because of work commitments or whatever.

I'll admit I've benefitted from this as my mate got me sorted straight away, I've got both stubs for the next wave but because of contacts sorted before they needed.

Though I'm more than a fair weather fan, there could be slightly more dedicated supporters than myself (I at work a helluva lot) who miss out.

Thank you for the advice on tickets.

Another option, if an away ticket is not possible, is to buy home tickets direct from Chelsea.

Thought about that yeh - I just really struggle sitting in the home end at an away game - I’ve only actually done it the once and that was at a certain game at Burton 😳

By this, do they mean that all the unreserved seating has been sold?  Or do they mean the 30,000+ ST holders have all bought their tickets too?

Speaking to an Arsenal fan many moons ago (maybe around 2007 or so) he had a ST and it covered ALL games - so if they got knocked out 1st round it was unlucky and expensive, if they went all the way through the cups then great, it was all paid up-front for anyway.  Do Chelsea maybe have a similar system?  I doubt it, this was the only time I'd heard of such a system, but it half explains why Arsenal's attendances are often stated as being 60,000 when there are clearly 10,000 empty seats - it just means there are 60,000 who have a ticket; whether they turn up or not is of no consequence to the men in suits,

Mind you, how on earth do you divvy-up the gate receipts from cup games if you have huge swathes of people of who don't actually pay for a ticket?

Anyway, I hope there really will be 40,000 there, but I have my doubts......

Have a look on the Chelsea website and the way they sell tickets looks reasonable and should answer your ST question, I think!

There are Chelsea home tickets for sale now on an unofficial Fans Site, if people get desperate.  There is an add-on cost to pay, depending on how posh a stand you want.

So which ST holder who can't make the game would like to help an exile out with your relevant stub so one can purchase two tickets??

As an exile with no chance of getting any 'away' tickets, I bought my three in the East Stand over the weekend. We'll be on our best behaviour too!
ps - I've noticed that all official Chelsea home tickets have now gone, unless you can afford a VIP one.

That would be a shame, as I'm sure there plenty of diehards who just shy of privelages. At least if there were some the hard-core could camp out at the ticket office to snap up the remaining.

Bit late to the party here but am I right in thinking tickets go on general sale 9am Thursday morning? Was hoping to go from Brizzle with a Chelsea mate and Liverpool fan. We eventually decided to go in with Chelsea but they’re now sold out - unless you want the premium deal for £600😮

If anyone ends up with 3 unwanted tickets in with Chelsea let me know - I don’t fancy my chances on general sale! Utm

I think it includes a glass of Prosecco on arrival - followed by nibbles - half time continental beer and a chicken baguette from Greggs

With Chelsea selling out home tickets,  a very quick search on Google shows home tickets on unofficial sites from £25 a ticket up to £100 a ticket.  £25 for Royal Mail de luxe special delivery on top!  This seems to be a popular way to see the game if people are rich or desperate.

Chelsea do say that that anyone paying over the face value price of a ticket (ie from touts) will be refused admission.  No idea how they would know this though.

At least Town fans are warned as to the risks and costs if they choose this way for tickets.

I might be completely wrong but I'd have thought any sort of hospitality package includes a ticket valued at £10 or however many seats in the deal. We'd then get a share of that, rather than a share of the full hospitality package price.

Wow. What a coincidence. Right next to me and my bugle !!

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

With it being a league cup game do you still think it will be on Chesea TV ???

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

You might have overestimated that a bit - the queue this morning was maybe 20-30 deep, and all done by 9:10am. Reckon today will be slow. Should be plenty available for the early birds tomorrow.

Thank you for advice on the best way to apply for a ticket.  I emailed for 2 tickets last night at 1815 hrs for today. Quoting 2 Crewe ticket numbers and 2 Trust membership numbers.  I got an immediate reply saying that my order would be processed today.

0845 hrs this morning Club emailed to say order has been done and posted out!   Very good service.

As above post, I think that the club are also uncertain that we will sell-out.  For today, they will also sell a Chelsea ticket to anyone buying a ticket for this Sat. There will be plenty left then for general sale.

Around 5,000 is or would be an excellent turnout.

Don’t forget online sales. Lots of people wouldn’t have been able to make it in person this morning.

Picked my tickets up about an hour ago, for me and the lad. I asked how many tickets are still available, and the young lady pointed to a big pile on the side, and said there's  about 1,100 left. Setting off to Westfields at around 11am, Wednesday.
Only upper shed available, I'm in row 18.

Bosh!  Just got my ticket confirmation.  Very happy.
When my actual tickets turn up I do have 2 in the Chelsea End (West Stand lower next to Shed End) so if anyone still needs tickets I'll sell them on at face value.

Changed my mind; looking at the school websites, they are asking for appointment cards and suchlike. Might be easier to phone them in sick for the whole day

I was told yesterday by Soccer Express that they have about 9 coaches going to Chelsea so far.

Just a though I wonder why we wasn't given the complete Shed End which is 6,800 I think?

Sure it was Brentford who took that recently, unless its different rules for different cup's , , ,

There's a maximum of 10% of the total capacity for away fans in the League Cup, so Chelsea gave us all they were allowed to. Not sure if that means there'll just be a few empty blocks in our end or a line of stewards and a tiny section of Chelsea fans though? Either way it's kind of a ridiculous rule in this situation.

They said this on Twitter...

"An initial amount was launched online, we had 150+ orders come through in a couple of minutes. Whilst we process all these orders, remaining tickets will be put online once we’ve processed all these."

...so I'm assuming if 150+ orders of people ordering multiple tickets as well as people turning up at the office, they need to make sure they aren't sold out. They said they'd put a Tweet out 15mins before the next batch go online so tell your son to keep checking.

This 10% rule... does it apply to all clubs in the competition, or just PL teams?

If it applies to all, then let's say we drew Man City at home. Our official capacity these days seems to be around 8,000. Does that mean we'd have given City 800, even though the Osmond can accept a lot more than that?

Just seems an odd rule. I'm sure it's there for a reason, but it's not obvious to me.

Seeing as Chelsea have sold this out, the 10% thing makes complete sense, but imagine that they didn't - it would be criminal to NOT sell more than 10% of the capacity to an away club whose fans want to go, when the home fans aren't that bothered.  I believe the EFL have a right to state a MINIMUM % that has to be allocated, but never to dictate a maximum.

Hmmm, I'm not sure. I might have misread it and it actually said minimum 10% then. I thought it was stated as maximum on our OS when the initial Chelsea allocation was announced, but I can't find that page/article now.

Yeah, I agree...however if your ground holds 50,000 and your away end is 6,000 it's almost counter productive for the EFL to cap the away allocation at 10% as it only frees up a 6th of the stand for home fans, which will need a block of segregation...or you just leave it empty. Either way there are empty seats. As said above though, I might have misread this maximum/minimum info.

It can't be a maximum of 10% as We're getting over 5k tickets and the ground holds less than 50k

Just a though I wonder why we wasn't given the complete Shed End which is 6,800 I think?

Sure it was Brentford who took that recently, unless its different rules for different cup's , , ,

Decision will by decided by the club, ploice, & safety team.
They can allocate whatever they like regardless of guidelines due to safety concerns etc.

It’s a good job they didn’t liaise with Nick Dale then. Otherwise we’d have got about 30 tickets. 😉.

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Without checking, I'm guessing it's only the Bristol Rovers game that was higher too.

https://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/sport/how-your-ticket-chelsea-grimsby-3283082

Under Carabao Cup regulations, the club who is successful in qualification to the third round will receive a maximum allocation of 4,000 seats, situated in the Shed End of Stamford Bridge.

This must have been what I'd read, so apologies for any confusion with all that 10% malarky. Still, that's obviously balderdash from the Telegraph.

Wembley aside, I think to the best of my knowledge the only time I’ve seen us in front of more than 40k is Sunderland in 98. How far back would you have to go for a bigger gate involving Town than that?

What was the gate when we lost 5-0 at Liverpool in 1980, about 50,000 IIRC. It was that long ago though that my memory might be addled a bit!

Yep, 49,706 apparently. January 1980 so very nearly 40 years ago. Suspect there will be a fair few on here, myself included, that were a mere twinkle in our father’s eyes back then.

"23.2 In all Cup Competition matches, the Visiting Club shall have the right to claim 10 per cent of all tickets reserved or otherwise sold in advance (any variation to that figure shall be subject to the consent of the Management Committee" - from the EFL.

Which seems to vary slightly due to configuration of stadium.

An example with statement from Chelsea for a past game versus Arsenal: "For matches in the Carabao Cup competition, it is standard for visiting supporters to be given 10 per cent of seating capacity. However due to the configuration of the Emirates Stadium, it is not possible for Arsenal to allocate this full amount for Chelsea fans for our forthcoming semi-final second leg."

I’ve never really thought about this, but if GOS is for really
Poorly kids, I apologise. I’ve always thought it was just a massive hospital for kids only. Hopefully I’m right.

It's what used to be termed (maybe still is) a Tertiary Referral Centre. Primary being GPs and the like, Secondary your district general hospitals and Tertiary  is when the secondary don't have the technical capability to deal with the condition. So yeah, very specialist. Also lots of R&D going on into rare conditions.

Actually Moorfields is (or was, my info may be out of date) also a Tertiary centre.

I didn't say it wasn't much of a draw but I am guilty of saying that I didn't think we'd sell out, but our fans never cease to amaze me.

Over 5000 tickets for a midwek game in an often maligned cup competion against Chelsea reserves is some going.

Everyone who bought a ticket should give themselves a big pat on the back.

I initially thought that 3000 would be a decent following (it would've been).

I wonder how many tickets Macclesfield would have sold?

This very localised virus is cured by a 24 hour exposure to the less-polluted southern air!

The Anfield attendance would have exceeded 50,000 but some Town fans were not allowed in after the Anfield Road end was full.  Other Town fans went on the Kop and were booted out.   Other Town fans went to the FAC match at Everton.

I wonder if any other northern team in Div 2 has taken more than 5,000 fans to a London midweek game?  Sat FAC matches are easier to travel to.

My (very old) Dad told me earlier this year that he was at the 1937 match at BP in 1937 which was the record attendance (31,651). Parking of bikes must have been a nightmare.

Now I feel like a mug.

Great support from Grimsby fans, but also well done Chelsea for selling out a game that is not very glamorous - really encourages people to attend games

Arsenal v Forest - 8,397 snapped up by Forest fans not sure how much they had to pay

Watford v Swans - price is £10 for Swans fans

Wolves v Reading - price is £15 for Reading fans

Now this is the best one!!!

Man U v Rochdale - £10 !! Bargain right??? Wrong!!!

0-15 £10
16-17 £22
18-20 £29
65+ £22

21-64 £36/37 !!!!!

This is the problem - I would gladly pay £37 to watch Town play at Old Trafford, so would 10,000 others, but MUFC's owners know it.  They're making money hand over fist nowadays, so I'm glad their on-pitch fortunes have faded under the yanks.

As I understand it, if a Chelsea supporter wants '1st dibs' on a ticket for the Cup Final, if Chelsea get there, then having tickets for the earlier games count.

So even though all the seats have been sold there might not be 41,631 people in the ground. (I thought there ground held more but according to the Web that is what it is. So it appears we have received more than 10% of the ground)  It doesn't matter to Grimsby financially as they will still receive their share of the sale of all the tickets. But the Chelsea supporters who might not be there will have more chance of a ticket for the Cup Final, again if Chelsae get there.

I still think that Grimsby will be noiser even if we lose - and you never know what could happen.

Probably a stupid question but can away (Town) fans get a beer inside Stamford Bridge before kick-off and at half-time ?

Chelsea surprisingly lead the way when the top flight teams are compared based on pie prices this season, with the Blues charging a measly £2.50.

However, drinking alcohol at Stamford Bridge is a different story with a pint setting fans back an eye-watering £4.80.

This VAR shite on offsides is ruining the game. The offside for the disallowed Chelsea goal occurred so long before the ball was finally played into the net. Ridiculous

2 Chelski defenders off injured as well so they may need to save their 2nd choices for the league. We just need Giroud to fall down the steps on his way onto the pitch then we might not get hammered,

I have not seen that yet, but the "offside" given against Spurs yesterday was beyond comprehension. That too was in the build up well before the goal and he was all of one inch offside, subject of course to the players running style, the size of his stomach and/or feet and whether he has a bigger hooter than the defender.

How the fans in the PL are putting up with it I have no idea.

100%. The clear and obvious error rule needs applying to VAR decision making itself - if you need fancy computer generated lines in freeze frame to work it out, then by definition it’s not clear and obvious.

All it seems to me is a way of ruling goals out. Very few decisions are being arrived at that lead to a goal. The most important, the most exciting thing in football is scoring goals and the authorities seem to think its a hoot to keep chalking off goals after looking at a computer version of a slide rule.

The thing I find amazing it that there is no technology that I'm aware of that pinpoints the exact moment the ball is passed to an offside player. Games are being ruined by people debating tiny margins when the person freezing the moment the ball is played is taking a total guess.

Again, spot on. Every player in the Premier League is wearing a GPS vest so why you can’t connect that data to to a device inside the ball which detects the precise moment it is struck I don’t know.

There’s the potential issue that it wouldn’t necessarily know WHO struck the bell (i.e whether it was the attacking or defensive team) but that’s really the only point you’d need cameras to step in.

Personally though I feel we should just stop trying to pursue perfect officiating; the game has got by without technology for the vast majority of its existence and it hasn’t done too bad in terms of global popularity.

If a Chelsea goal is ruled out by VAR for being one millimetre offside on Wednesday I will not be complaining

I said before the season started that there would be less goals this season due to VAR, although technically the decisions a e correct fans want to see goals, a 4-4 draw is always more exciting than a 0-0 draw. VAR disallows goals doesn't give them.

I’ve no idea how close that will be to the actual line-up but anything close to that would, on paper, be the strongest side I can remember Town facing in the best part of 20 years.

To that end, should any one of Giroud or Kante play, I reckon they will become the first World Cup winners I can remember playing against Town. Would the last time mean going as far back as one of the ‘66 England team?

Ditch the lines. Let the ref look at the big screen. If it looks like it's level then the goal stands. If it is obviously offside then overrule it. Non of this big toe is offside nonsense.  Linespersons are getting overruled on bloody inches, it's getting bloody stupid. In cricket if it is close then they go with the umpire. Only if it is clear that the umpire is wrong then they overrule him.

That would probably the most decorated team to ever play against Town but half of the medals would have been earned by Pedro alone. I’d quite like to see Kante in the flesh to be honest - just to see if he really is better than Hessenthaler.

I hadn’t realised Pedro had won the World Cup, not to mention the Euros to boot. For all their troubles with transfer embargo’s etc it’s not a bad reserve side they’ve got there.

Remember that match first game of the season which town won 4-1 on boiling hot day. Re World Cup winners think Alan Ball played against town for Southampton when we went to a second replay at Leicester so he probably played in all three games

I remember Ray Wilson playing for Oldham. Stuart Brace left him for dead on the halfway line to score.

Lots of first team injuries for Chelsea after weekend + 4 or five others that were already injured.

Chelsea U21's play Bristol Rover on Tuesday in EFL Trophy.

That does not leave them with many options, Looks to me that they will play their 'development Squad + 3 or 4 first team players against us and their U19/U18's squads against Bristol Rovers.

Surely with a Premier League game on Saturday and Champions League away the Wednesday afterward they can not risk too many first choice players.

Quoted from Poojah

To that end, should any one of Giroud or Kante play, I reckon they will become the first World Cup winners I can remember playing against Town. Would the last time mean going as far back as one of the ‘66 England team?

Being anorak-y enough to look into this (and a bit bored), I reckon it's Karl-Heinz Riedle (West Germany, 1990). Played against us for Fulham in January 2000 (and also for Liverpool in November 1997).

That's my best guess, anyway.

Also the Courtfield as well I believe someone mentioned - so two nicely situated next to the underground - should be fun

Just had a quick gander at one of the Chelsea forums and nearly all the posts about Wednesday's game says that they hope Cho will be given a run out.

I thought they'd got some young Chinese wizzkid playing for them until I realised that they were referring to Callum Hudson-Odoi.

CHO cannot be any good as only Bayern Munich wanted to buy him and Chelsea were very reluctant to give him a longer contract.  He won’t amount to anything.  😄😉

Looks Chelsea will field a very strong team anyway (based on teams flagged up by home fans).  Do they need to inflict CHO on us as well?

Should they slip up the Grimsby Reaper may well be waiting in the wings down the line as the course of their history takes a different trajectory. Put us to the sword and it may be a springboard to a more upward one.

As much as I like what's happening there now with young English talent finally getting a look in there's no room for sentiment when it comes to our beloved GTFC. Not that we'll likely be in a position to have the option of giving any 😅

Lampard is safe in his job for this season at least. He's on a hiding tonnithibg but, apparently brought a togetherness between the club and the supporters again

I'd prefer somewhere indoors as it's looking like rain on Wednesday. TFL won't allow cans in the stations any more. I think Boris banned it when he was mayor if I remember right.

I reckon MJ ought to play a weakened side Wednesday....we've got a BIG game Saturday!!!

He may tear us to shreds (he may not after all Mitch Rose had Zaha in his pocket at Palace   ) but I suspect we all want Chelsea to play some of their best players, if not to at least get a live glimpse of international standard footballers.

We will probably lose either way but I would rather lose playing against a strong Chelsea team than a weak one.

That's what made the Liverpool and Spurs wins much more special, they played as strong a team as they could in those games. Would not have been anywhere near as memorable had we played Liverpool Reserves on the night.

mention of Mitch Rose and Palace prompted me to search for this video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKUq0-FtNMs

where he basically explains how eskilstuna beat Malmo, which was the template for how we approached the Palace match (obviously Fox's early sending off ruined the plan to a certain extent)
i wouldn't be in the least bit surprised to see Jolley using a similar system tomorrow, but just wondered who could do the Mitch Rose role. Maybe Whitehouse or Clifton?

Don’t get me wrong, I like the idea of three in goal, but McKeown up front on his own I’m not so sure about.

Chelsea FC have a detailed background report on us.  This includes the info that we beat Liverpool on pens at Anfield.  Presumably, they could not believe that we won with a last min goal in ET!!,

I noticed PP bbc match stats for Colchester v Spurs was 25% - 75% poss, 0 - 8 shots, 0 - 1 on target, 0 - 3 corners, 5 - 3 fouls.  I checked the teams for a few of the ties and they seem to be playing a mixture of youth, fringe and 1st 11

Chelsea U-21 lost tonight in the EFL Trophy. Their side was an average age of 19. Read into that what you will.

Starting to get excited now. Won't sleep very well. If we win tomorrow (correction today), I'll sleep even less the next night.

If we play like we did at Palace, I'll be proud. And hoarse.
