Apologies, because I'm not too much of a regular on the forum so I may have missed something but has the 3 line whip been removed from boycotting last nights tournament? Only I was there last night as I have been on every other occasion and there seemed to be a lot more people.

Lots of people used to boycott these games and for a very good reason. Premier League B Teams.
Looking at last night attendance it seems many of those who used to boycott the competition are no longer doing so.
I'm not sure what has changed for these people to change their minds.
The B teams are more of a threat than ever. You can almost hear the Big Prem teams rubbing their hands with the like of Bury going out of business and Bolton very nearly.
When B teams are in the Football League at the expense of local Town clubs, the people who went will know they were part of the problem.
Be careful, one of those teams who have their place taken by a Prem B team could well be your beloved Mariners.

Not sure that anyone who has boycotted this competition has changed their mind at all. I most certainly haven't and won't be changing my mind whilst it's still in it's current format. The extra numbers at BP last night (on both sides) were ones who hadn't boycotted it before or probably wouldn't have anyway. Any GTFC v SUFC match will grab the attention and the return of Paul Hurst to BP will have got a few more through the turnstiles too. I think the best way of looking at this is to see what the attendance would/should have been if this wasn't a boycott game. I can't imagine that there wouldn't have been at least 2 or 3 times as many people there. Let's not measure last nights crowd by those there but perhaps by those who would have been there in other circumstances.

If you attend a match in which Town play a B team then you're effectively telling the Premier League and EFL that you'll pay to watch it happen in a league game.
Obviously last night was a match against a 'proper' team, if you can call Scunny that. While we should be boycotting this too, to send a very clear message to those in charge that we won't watch our team compete in a tournament that includes B teams, I think our attendances in those matches when we play B teams will be the ones to scrutinise.

Literally the only reason more people showed up is for Scunthorpe and Hurst. A lot of people who you never see at matches turn up for local derby games or games against Yorkshire teams where it's notorious for trouble kicking off. Nobody would care about one of these cup games against other teams.

There never was a 3-line whip, nor any attempt by Fishy posters to force anyone to boycott the competition. Many posters expressed their unease with the format, indicated that they intended to boycott these matches, and gave their reasons - hoping to persuade others to do likewise. Persuasion is not bullying. The accusation from the club that fans were being bullied by the Fishy was probably an attempt to darken the reputation of the Fishy. JF was being castigated here. It's a standard right-wing tactic when you can't win an argument (which is usual) to cast aspersions/throw dirt at the people making the argument. To put it simply: if this cup format is a success, it'll be C teams next...

I don't know why you have to drag politics into this but Momentum are doing a pretty good job, on behalf of the Labour Party, of casting aspersions, digging up dirt and bullying, with the threat of de-selecting Labour MP's.

I think quite a few more went, realising it’s safe to do so, now that Nick Dale has confiscated my sand filled gloves. But I’m saving up my dole money for a new pair. And Cleethorpes beach has an endless supply of sand. So watch your back fella. Watch your back 😉

Whereas Johnson's government has just actually deselected more than 20 of their own MPs including former ministers for daring to vote for a course they thought best for the country. How many times did Johnson vote against May, again? Surely he should have been booted out of the Conservative Party as well earlier this year? Amazing that anybody should mention threats to deselect Labour MPs (none of which have occurred or can occur under current rules) yet completely ignore the right-wing lurch and implosion of the Conservatives.

Unless the government has lied (quite possible), they have said that the 'rebels' will be deselected, come what may. Now, a number of them such as Clarke are stepping down in any case, but the others are effectively being deselected.
I'm not a Labour Party member, but I understand that the current rules do not allow for deselection of sitting MPs. That's what Momentum are agitating for to try and get rid of the more ardently right-wing Blairites. When you think how many Labour MPs have done little but vote with the government and attack their own leadership over the past few years (mounting a couple of failed coup attempts as well, of course), you can see why some local parties might want to be able to get rid of them! Just as long as you don't get a far left takeover through entryism. Something they were worried about in the 80s but which anecdotally may have actually occurred with the Tories. Reports that many of Johnson's votes came from relatively recent joiners who were previously UKIP/Brexit Party voters.

Almost as thick as people hijacking a football thread to spout their political beliefs. I think there just might be a non footy thread or a thousand forums for those of you (from either side) who wish to share their political wisdom. So can you all just take it elsewhere. Ta

No politics, please. We've all had our fill.
I would support the boycott of this tournament. The EFL needs to make much more noise about the financial imbalance between its clubs and the PL. Bury FC have been hammered and expelled. I might be naive but near to Bury are two of the richest clubs in the world- City and Utd. Why didn't make donations to Bury to help them pay the wages of the staff at Gigg Lane? When you have jus one PL player getting £100,000 per week that amount would go a long way to helping their neighbour. A couple of million each would have been chicken feed and may have helped Bury to survive. I think it is an absolute disgrace. Too much greed and avarice in the PL.
