Can't imagine anyone else going out except maybe Cardwell on loan, he definitely needs a run of games.

For one in who knows what position, maybe additional cover in midfield?

Quality left back/wing back still needed.

I could see Cardwell leaving in loan. A run of games a division of two below us could do him good. Is rose fit yet?

Gibson, Ring and Hendrie are enough options surely?

Rose seems to struggle to stay fully fit.
If either Hendrie or Hewitt r unfit we would really be dropping in quality with either ring or Gibson. And the full backs are often our main width. However I can't see us signing a third left back who would probably be only cover anyway. Defensive utility player maybe who covers cb and lb?

I know we have no chance but just IMAGINE if Embo came back on loan with the attack we have this season saying that his hardly played for Sunderland this season mainly on bench so it could be possible lol

Has to be Cardwell out on loan surely? By my reckoning there are 6 forward players ahead of him. Whereas we are light in midfield and I doubt we'd let Ring go when Gibson's fitness is questionable.

Looking forward to a brighter future now Fenty has gone.

Was told by a Lincoln fan who is heavily involved in bringing “imp legends” back to the club that we tried (for the second year running) to sign Michael O’Connor in the summer. Lincoln would also probably let Lee Frecklington go out on loan but his injury is I understand probably one that could see the end of his professional career. Hope that’s not the case as played golf for years with his grandad and football with his dad and uncle plus he lives in our village and is a genuinely nice guy.

Was told the same. O’Connor agreed his new deal on the basis that he would be playing regularly, otherwise he would move (allegedly!)

Don't feel ashamed of liking an opponents player or fans. I've never hated lincoln or classed them as a hated rival since the bike ride and football matches we played against their fans all those years ago..... Scunthorpe on the other hand, I don't know why but I don't like them. (awaits mariners 83 to comment something sarcastic)

I grew up in Rasen so you were either an Imp or a Mariner I was one of the lucky ones and became a black and white. Having lived in Lincoln, now a village just outside, I have become friends with a number of Lincoln players, mainly through working at the same place as their wives/girlfriends but still want them to get beat. In Rasen nobody supported Scunny so personally I never had the dislike for them that clearly exists in many Grimbarians. However, there are 3 Scunny season ticket holders who frequent our village pub so having some delightful Saturday nights so far this season.

I worked with a few Lincoln fans in Coningsby in our shared time in the Conference (i.e before they were good!) and they are very civil and proper football people. Yes around the derbies the banter and rivalry intensified but I still talk to them regularly and we’ve both been complimentary and critical of each others teams and accepted it. We always agreed that it’s rivalry and not hatred and that our truest rivals are the PL top six who take more fans off local clubs than local rivals these days.

The one and only Scunny fan I have ever encountered in a working environment was a complete twit who turned instantly when he found out I was a Town fan. A very strange individual as they were comfortably better than us at the time.

For me I would like 2 in, certainly a centre mid who can create chances, carry the ball and make runs off the ball that is the priority.

Neither Ring nor Gibson look good enough and Hendrie is wasted playing out of position. Might seem we have options there, just natural width from left back would provide more balance. Just my opinion.

Spose ring could be the one out if the replacement was a left back. Probably needs to play more games than he will with us if he is gonna find a league club next season as I would be surprised if he is retained

I've only ever met ONE in my whole life*. Someone I worked with in the same company in 2010. Not a good year! In more ways than one.

* OK I've lived most of it down south, but I've come across Town fans, even the odd Hully Gully outside of football.

Makes you think that there isn’t much bubbling away at the moment. Maybe just a possible loan?

I was hoping that David Meyler (without a Club) was a possibility until he declared his retirement a few days ago.

Would like a strong CM player.

What is unrealistic about what I posted? Somebody with similar style of play as Jamey Osborne would do, loan or otherwise, why can't we afford somebody like that when we afforded Jamey Osborne a couple of years ago?

Rory Holden, Walsall's young loanee from Bristol City was their standout player on Saturday. Left footed, quick, able to go past full backs and willing to track back. His athleticism and comfort on the ball was way above L2.
Young one on the way up, a la Embo, please.

I think we need a quality defensive midfielder. Would allow Hess some freedom to get forward more. I think he’s a bit wasted playing the anchor role. He’s good at it, but I think he’s more of a threat going forward.

I wouldn't mind getting someone in who can play the holding role purely because Clifton, Cook and Whitehouse definitely can't do it so if something were to happen to Hess, God forbid, then we'd be playing Hewitt there. Who isn't terrible but is significantly less effective than Hess plus we'd then lose his crossing from out wide which is one of our main attacking strengths when we've got Hanson in the box.

On the subject of Hess, he really needs tying down with an improved contract.

Disagree with that. Hess is superb at intercepting and at tackling, not especially good going forward, needs to be left in that anchor role.

I think Clifton would be avle to play in the defensive midfield role. Not as well as Hess clearly but he has the energy to get about and tackle etc. Depends if he has the discipline for it, on the rare occasions breaking forward he would offer more too.

It may well be that Hess would rather see out his contract and see what is on offer from other clubs rather than be tied to another contract here, he really is playing very well and may be in league 1 next year even if we aren't.

Not being difficult but I don't know what our budget is so I'm not speculating what it is. You say it's mid-table but it could be 7th , 8th or 9th . Judging by the signings so far then it must be half decent and to think that MJ wants another signing then it surely must be competitive.

Hess would walk into plenty of League 1 teams for me, incredible player, can bring the ball down and play and make it look effortless.

Just an attacking, creative midfielder who can ping balls out with to Ogbu & Green, and looks for the forward through ball

It's vital that we get a creative central midfielder because without one, we'll never score the goals we need.

You do know we are the top goal scorers in League 2 atm, right?

For me the players who came in on loan and made a massive impact in recent years were Connor Townsend and Elliot Embleton plus Dean Henderson. To me GTFC especially under MJ have proved they will play young players and that should stand the Club in very good stead when they call on bigger teams to loan players to us. We were very unfortunate regarding Henderson that the then Manager fell out with him and the loan was terminated under a cloud. This is a very good Club and environment for young players to come and get game time and I hope we remind other Clubs of this. I wonder if that 16 year old Barcalona wonder kid likes fish and chips  ?

You mean like how Jordan Cook did for Hanson's first goal on Saturday?

In an ideal world we would get a creative attacking midfielder who can unlock defences without compromising on what we have in terms of intensity and work-rate in the middle of the park.  Embleton was great last year because he was technically a class above this division but didn't have a billy big balderdash attitude so was prepared to put a shift in as well.    However, his impact was limited because we tried to play absolutely everything through him and teams soon just doubled or trebled up on him.  That's the problem when you have a creative player at this level, there's no-one else to take the players off you so you're just walking round with a big target on your back.

This year we've got the physicality from Hanson, plus Ogbu and Green, the pace of Green and Ogbu running in the channel, the option from the bench of Max Wright plus Akheem Rose when he comes back from injury.  If needed we've got a little bit more pace from Charles Vernam and also the close control he offers.   Then there's the options from set-pieces and the overlapping crosses from Hewitt and Hendrie.  We are mixing it up nicely.

We're playing 3 men in midfield, with attacking full-backs.  I don't think we can afford, nor need, to shoehorn a 'no 10' into the side for the sake of it.  Cook has shown in the past few games that he can do that advanced midfield role.  He'snot as technical as someone like Embleton but he's a decent footballer who sees things, moves the ball quickly but also fits in with the workrate and tenacity of the midfield set-up.

I think left-back is somewhere we're lacking at the minute.  I've no issue with Hendrie there.  He is better at right-back but he does a more than adequate job on his weaker side, which also allows Hewitt to play on the right where he's a real outlet.  As good as Hendrie is, I dare say if he reverts back to an option at right-back he may not be a guaranteed starter at the minute.  Sadly it's the cover that we don't have, I hope I'm proved wrong but I don't think Ring or Gibson are up to the task.  Neither strong enough defensively or fit in with the role of an attacking full-back to whip crosses in.

Can't really see us needing or wanting to strengthen anywhere else.  In terms of someone going out, Cardwell's the obvious choice but I do wonder if Vernam's someone who could be heading out.   Quite far down the pecking order now - 6th choice to fit into a 3 man attack?   Don't think he was on the bench on Saturday either, was he injured?
