Anybody else feeling very positive about Town this season? A potential game with Chelsea away in the cup, sitting 4th in the league and 3 points off top, I’m not getting ahead of myself here because we’ve been let down before haven’t we 😢 but something feels different here, well done to Michael Jolley and the team 👌

Best to keep feet on the ground and take it game by game - a few injuries in key areas could scupper things as we got quality over quantity. But, as football fans we dreamers so one could be excused for getting a little bit giddy!
Just would be nice to be in with a shout instead of coasting along with nothing to play for at the end.

The ability to stick it in the net is massive, heads don't go down when we concede as was previously the case as we know we're capable of getting back in the game.

Desperately trying not to be optimistic and try and stay as grounded as possible, but its becoming quite difficult isn't it

this is why I am optimistic especially after coming from behind several times.
from Walsall forum
Saddlers_at_Hertford
79walsall 3m We went sideways and backwards because Grimsby were better than us, end of. If the ball went in the air 100% we turned over possession. I don’t think we had any other option other than to be patient. We had some success on the flanks, but we are dire in the middle and the box. And now defence. Worrying, yes, but more frustrating as if we had took our chances, the mood would be a lot better. My mom could have poked that first half chance Adaboyo blew. First time I have walked out without stopping around to applaud the lads off.

You never know with Town when everything will turn to shít; there have been more downs than ups over the last 20 years or so.
Right now, everything is rosy. We’re doing well in the league, with a promising, goalscoring side and a likeable management team. Then there’s the prospect of a potential money spinning cup tie at Stamford bridge on the horizon.
Meanwhile, 30 miles down the road Scunny and the ear-cupping one find themselves bottom of the entire football league, the horrible cúnts.
All this could change in the blink of an eye, so tonight just take a moment, let it all sink in and enjoy it. UTM!

I'm optimistic but still think we're too easy to score against (and reliant on Hanson) to sustain a challenge to the top seven.
We won't be anywhere near the relegation battle though. Let's just enjoy it and hope the youngsters continue to develop

If we win, we're going up and everything is great. If we lose, we're doomed . That said, it's nice getting to the weekend and actually feeling confident we'll get a win. Some seasons it's felt like a chore to go to a match or look at the live scores because I'm expecting misery again.

And that's exactly why Leicester won the premier League...they went the full season with virtually the same starting 11 and got lucky with no serious injuries...let's pray and hope we can do the same because the starting 11 we've had can do some serious damage in this league!!...👍⚽

Well I think the early signs are really good.
The key is the transition of young players coming in to the side and continuously improving - eg Pollock, Wright, (Clifton / Hessenthaler seem almost experienced after a season) plus a couple of other young potentials - alongside experienced pros eg Hanson, Green, Ohman, Cook, Mckeown
Management seem to be getting this right - best of luck

I've adjusted my pre-season prediction from mid table to top 10 but if you can't start to get excited after a couple of wins then why bother at all?
I do wish we could start to score the first goal in games though.

After todays performance optimism is certainly justified. We are a tough, energetic team with some good footballers.
Best team we have had for many years.
Who knows how high we will finish, but I don't think there is even the slightest possibility that e could go down this season.

indeed it could Poojah. Injuries are a beatch and we've had our fair share over last season which disrupts the team. I'm just hoping we get to Christmas injury free, right now...….im loving it, and why not, its more than we fans deserve over the past years, including the stick the town gets, we need to use this new found excitement and keep the team charged. Were are starting to become resilient which is a good thing, anyway UTFM

I think there is a lot more pace in this current Town side than we have seen since Michael Ready and that can only excite the fans. I also think that seeing the Scunts back to bottom feeding also warms the cockles so there is a lot of stuff going round regarding Town adding to the feel good factor.

There doesn't seem to be too much trouble on the creating chances aspect seeing as creativity highlighted as something we lacked. The ball in by Green for the second was sublime for example.

We have some talented players and have hope. Before we get carried away, I thought we missed James Hanson when we played Macclesfield on Tuesday and his injury record is not good.
I would never say a team is about one player, but if Hanson keeps fit, I think it's playoffs minimum.
If he doesn't we will be comfortably mid table.
Here's hoping including a cup run in January.

Of course we want James Hanson fit for as many games as possible but I’m sure Greeny can play the role if necessary. Truth is that Hanson, Green, Ogbu, Cook and Vernam are great forward options and Cardwell will play some Tuesday nights, also we don’t know who we are supposed to be signing on Monday.

It would be great on Monday if we could ship Cardwell out and replace him with a second-rate Hanson. Even if he wins half the aerial duels Hanson wins it will help us if we are without him.

Hanson and Green are an excellent pairing, they have goals in them. Waterfall look classy, the swede will get sent off a couple of times. Hewitt better going forward than back Moses.....jury out for me Midfield still needs something else Max is quick, and can get us into the opposition half more

Why would we want a “second-rate” player as a reserve? Surely better to try and bring on a young player by putting out on loan with a recall option and bank the wage saving until Jan?

Why ship Cardwell out? He is part of the squad and as such has a part to play. A couple of injuries and we could easily need him . I'm sure MJ sees him as part of his plans and that is good enough for me .

Well I think MJ should be the judge of that and seeing as he hasn't released him or shipped him out then he must figure in his plans.

It would be surprising if he didn't learn a bit from watching Hanson play. Your assessment of Cardwell seems reasonably fair given what we've seen so far, so I have to assume the management have seen more than we have. I presume he is the back-up for Hanson at present.

Trying not to get carried away still very early days but I said earlier Hanson IS the real deal.
From the first time I see him not just his ability to win and scrap for everything but he is also a natural leader of men and is goal hungry.
Watch Jolley and co on the bench they know it and so do the rest of the team, he as an immense presence about him that inspires all around him.
Jolley pulled out an absolute cracker getting him here.
If we stop giving away silly goals and Hanson stays fit we will always be in with a chance Hanson does not mind having two even three defenders on him whilst they are having to double up on marking him Green, Mosses and co are able to find more room.
People who are knocking Jolley for playing to Hansons obvious strength should see he was the main missing piece in the jigsaw you need in lower leagues.
Not just that but Green and Mosses are also big strong lads with a fair turn of pace plus the ability to put over a good cross plus you have two excellent young speed merchants Max wright and Akheem Rose.
Definitely a front line to chanlenge any defence in this league.
You need that man who can LEAD the front line and Hanson is the best I have seen here in years.
Young Harry Cardwell can learn a great deal under his influence and that can only be a massive possitive for the lad.
A great blend of youth plus some key expirienced warriors to learn from.
All good signs UTM.

Michael Jolley in Thursdays interview, one and maybe two.
To be fair, in the interview he didn't say we would be signing someone on Monday, he said we were still trying to sign one, maybe two before the transfer deadline.

It would be surprising if he didn't learn a bit from watching Hanson play.
Your assessment of Cardwell seems reasonably fair given what we've seen so far, so I have to assume the management have seen more than we have.
I presume he is the back-up for Hanson at present.
Ogbu or green have been the back up for the Hanson role against Donny and Macca when Hanson wasn't playing. Caldwell is 4th choice now for the lead the line/target man role. It would probably be better for him as well as us if we can get him out on loan AND the savings contribute to us getting a better replacement in. If we can't get anyone in then fair enough I would want him to stay as our squad is too small and he will definitely get used on occasion.

I don't know if he would get used in all honesty. Nobody is going to be able to replace Hanson like for like if he was unavailable but in Ogbu and Green we've got two forward players who are good at this level and both are more than capable of playing centrally. Then you've got Wright, Rose and Vernam who can all play in the forward three as well and in my opinion are all well ahead of Cardwell. Cardwell is only going to get a look in if we were very unfortunate and had both Ogbu and Hanson out for an extended period.

When I said he would be used I meant in the role he has been used in already I.e. coming on late on when we are leading to use his aerial ability at the back for set pieces and his good defensive work up front, to shore us up late on. I can't see him starting league games unless Hanson ogbu and green are all out, even then it's possible we would go with a different system rather than start him. For wide front men i would say green ogbu wright rose vernam and cook are all in front of him for those 2 starting positions. He will probably start in the checkatwat trophy thing tho depending on the rules. Do you still have to use a certain number of players who played the league game before the trophy match?

I don't like to target or single players out for criticism usually but it has to be said I've seen nothing from Cardwell to presume he'll ever be good enough. Runs around alot and tries but you need a bit more than that.
Was very surprised/disappointed he kept on by Jolley tbh - maybe he a great character around the place or trains like a Beast through the week, we'll never see the full picture, but he needs to show more on a match day. If he ever gets a look in now that is.
