Very much doubt we will be looking over our shoulder this season.

I just checked (sad I know) but it was middle of October before we scored 10 goals last season. Talk about being spoilt!

Ref spoiled the first half with far too much whistle blowing for imaginary fouls and ignoring obvious ones. Like I said at half time the first half was cancelled out by two good defences and midfields and a draw going in was fair.

Second half Vale pushed higher and their midifeld tired before ours did and this was what we needed to open them up.

5 good goals scored. 2 cheap goals to concede. Pollock had Pope in his back pocket and can see us selling him in the next couple years for a nice profit if he keeps this up.

MoM its hard to decide. Waterfall had a good game at the back and got a goal. Same for Davis before he went off.
Ogbu, Green and Hanson all lead the line well and looked like a front three was really starting to gell.
Midifeld workhorses were well midifeld workhorses would love to see Hess's heatmap after a game and because of that I'll give it Hess hes just everywhere.

Thrill a minute thought everybody played well Would like to pick out Hewitt and young Pollock for mention. Port Vale,especially their No15, were one of the dirtiest teams I've seen for a long time Referee and linesmen were absolutely crap in the first half. Long wait for 5 goals but feel it's just the start.

Don't think we was absolutely brilliant but that's probably how poor Port Vale were. Nice to get 5 goals and five different scorers but I feel on another day the two defensive errors lead to 0 points. Happy for the lads though and happy for Jordan Cook who looked brilliant in his little role today

Yet still managed 2 assists and a goal. Class

In the second half we virtually missed out Hansen and Green and Ogbu seemed to push up right onto their centre halves. We turned them and did them for pace. Credit to Jolley and Limbrick (who I suspect is the tactical nouse in the set up) for changing things at half time.Waterfall was the stand out player for me....a leader at the back who spent the second half coaching and cajolling Pollock.

Thought Pollock was lucky to not be more than cautioned for piggy backing their players a few times but stood up well aside from that.

Man of the match for me is either Ogbu or Green. Green goes under the radar but his hold up and general presence up front was class

Still 40/1 to win the league on Skybet (1/4 odds first 3) and only 6 teams below us in the betting.

One big difference between the halves was, of course, the wind. In our faces first half and it was easier for their defenders to win it as our kicks upfield held up in the air. The opposite situation in the second half as our defenders won pretty much every aerial challenge and we were able to get in behind them quite often.

In fact, other than their goal from some terribly lax defending, I don't really recall them getting close to a chance in the second half whereas we had a few efforts where we could have done better. Not that I'm complaining about scoring five!

The fact that the strikers aren't just scoring goals but also getting the 'assists' shows a decent understanding developing there.

Day started well, had abuse shouted at me by some Scunthorpe fans when walking through Grimsby Town centre in my town shirt on the way to the game which was hilarious, sums Scunthorpe up. They'd rather enjoy a day in Grimsby than be at their own game.

5-2 win, I'll take that. First half was solid, nothing special as such but we definitely competed and battled well. Started well but conceded a scrappy goal after 10 minutes, think it might've actually been an own goal. Port Vale then put all 11 men behind the ball, which isn't the best idea if you go 1-0 after 10 minutes. They were dirty, tried (and failed) to mark James Hanson out of the game and we're constantly short pulling and wrapping arms round our front players. Their lead rightly didn't last long and we got a deserved equaliser 10 minutes later. A well worked free kick put away by Jordon Cook. The first half display from the ref was one of the worse I've ever seen at BP, made mistakes from the start and even made kick off be taken again at the start and after half time for some reason. Town looked like they might get another before the break but it didn't happen. Moses Ogbu did fall over the ball though but it's ok we still love him.

Pollock came on at Half time because Davis had a knock, very impressive display, he looks more like a seasoned pro than a 17 year old. Already being comfortable with first team football I'd day he's going to go far in the game, wouldn't surprise me if he ends up in the Championship/Premier League.

Started the second half very well and made it 3-1 before 60 minutes. Two good goals from Ogbu and Green have us a deserved lead. Ogbu's celebration was quite something aswell. I'm convinced Ogbu will be a key player for us this season, yes he makes some silly mistakes but it's clear he's got something special about him. It's easy to forget he's moved half way round the world to play in English football for the first time after being in Saudi Arabia, he's just going to get better and better as he settles in and adapts to our game.

Conceded another scrappy goal to make it 3-2, not too concerned with the goals we conceded. They were a mixture of luck on Vales part and silly mistakes from us. Nothing major that needs to dealt with I don't think.

Well worked corner (we never score from corners? ) lead to Waterfall with an absolute bullet of a head to make it 4-2
Max Wright came on with 10 minutes to go and almost immediately made an impact assisting James Hanson to make it 5-2, if it hadn't have been a goal we'd have had a penalty because Max had got away from his marker and was pulled down as he made the assist. Another one with a bright future ahead, impressive pace and technical ability for a young lad.

Main points to take form that are;
- Again we don't look phased by going behind, heads didn't drop and we worked hard to pull it back
- We look very dangerous from set pieces, something I personally haven't seen in entire my 14 years of watching Town, if we keep that up we'll win points from set pieces alone, absolutely vital in tight games
- Ogbu is such an unpredictable, exciting player. You never know what he's going to do and nor do the opposition. Yes he made some mistake and there could be some work on his decision making when it comes to releasing the ball but he's just that kind of player, he tries to be creative and sometimes it won't always come off and people will get frustrated but he's got a moment of brilliance in him that will win us matches.
- Pollock looks more than comfortable with first team football and we need him on a longer contract
- We look so comfortable on the ball and when we keep hold of it and pass it around we look very threatening
- There's still room for improvement in a few areas. That's not a bad thing either, we looked very good today but the best sides always look to go even better and that's what we need to do. Celebrate a good win and good performance then get straight back to it starting on Tuesday night in the cup.

Jolley has recruited well this summer. Last season we had a problem scoring goals. We're the leagues top scorers after today. Give our front 3 service and they will score.

Won't be back at BP until December now.

Apparently MarinersOnTheUp those dirty Scunts you encountered were at our game because they've been told if they want to watch a decent team play good attacking football and score goals to get to Grimsby, they were of course in with the vale fans, as we don't let tramps in the home stands.

Drove home very happy with a slightly sad looking Vale fan. Played quite well, made all the difference that we did not just hoof up to Hanson all game, got it down and played. Well happy, excellent team effort and Ogbu quickly becoming a fave.

Seen the highlights, love the fact every goal is different in the way itss been set up / scored etc. Max Wright, well... What a run.

I put grimsby (at 50/1) in my each way lucky 15 to win the league / promotion along with Sunderland (3/1), Leeds (4/1)and spurs (12/1)
I have aa feeling a may be getting some money back this year for the First time ever!

Seriously though, I watched Tuesday’s game on iFollow and went today, so it’s not an exact comparison, but I think a big difference was that both teams tired in midfield in the second half, making the game much more open. This was probably because of the heat and I think the injection of Clifton gave us good energy which helped us cope.
We were basically better equipped to exploit the spaces that opened up. Our front line is a real handful, and when Max Wright came on they just couldn’t cope with his speed.
So in summary I wouldn’t get too carried away as we won’t get these circumstances too often, but the big positive to me is how the team is handling and responding to going behind.

No different to what their illegitimate of a Centre half was doing all first half to Hanson. That lino was horrifically shite, don’t think he raised his flag all game. Probably the wankest linesman ever seen.

Right let’s get the 2 soft goals out of the way before my reflection on what was a really good afternoon for the team and Supporters. Yeah we conceded 2 relatively soft goal but scored 5 in responses all 5 where we’ll taken and we’ll crafted by 5 different players which makes it even better..... add to that coming from behind, again!

So I won’t go through the game as there are better and more eloquent posts above than I could ever pull together but on the 3 hour drive home I thought ......

- 5 good goals from both set pieces and open play. Our composure in the final 3rd looked much better and is improving.

- Green & Hanson if we can keep them fit they’ll prove to be the best attacking signings we’ve made since returning to the EFL. Hanson is a real handful and made their number 15s life a misery today. Green is very clever in the way he drags opponents around to create space for others. They both know where the back of the net is too!!

- Moses, he must be a real challenge to play against as you can’t tell what he’s going to do next, I’m not convinced he can most of the time but that kind of unpredictability seems to work for us and he made a real difference today, good celebration too.

- Hess, another great performance and along with the likes of Whitehouse and evidently Waterfall he’s part of a cohort of real up and at em leaders in the outfield

- Whitehouse, looked knackered after 60 mins but still worked himself even harder, with more mins under his belt he’s going to be a big player for us this term.

- The subs, Pollock comes on and makes it look easy. Clifton did the job he was meant to do and Max? Fast as f**k and once again was involved in a goal at the end to well and truly kill a game. All 3 home grown all 3 self assured and confident beyond their years.

- We need a half decent left back as a good footballer like Hendrie could add value in mid field

- The officials? Shite again!!!

- The opposition could do quite well if they focused on playing and not hitting the deck at every opportunity. Felt a bit for their keeper Scott Brown as I remember him clapping the Town fans behind his goal after we’d lost at Wycombe the season Jolley arrived.

- The attitude is superb at the moment and Jolley’s recruitment clearly is based around a player who has integrity as well as ability.

And for me the most telling but?

- We are playing in a way that suits the players rather than the players having to apart to a style beyond their abilities.

Good day for Town as I say. How far can we go? If injuries are kind to us and we add a couple more who knows?

I’ll remain cautiously optimistic as long as the players remain as dogged and committed as they did today.

Was at work sadly, sounds like I missed a classic but good to see Ogbu doing the biz before any possible booboys started to take aim. I'm sure he can be frustrating when his random wacky actions don't come off but if you don't try you don't get so we should allow for such instances.

Also special note to Pollock and Wright, joining Clifton in slotting right into the senior game, each with their own useful attributes. What a boost to have a bundle of such players coming through and how it'll save us in higher wages for more senior players - or moreover the search for them.

I'd be promptly getting them even more tied down if carry on in thesame vein - though to be fair to Jolley he has shown great faith with the longer contracts. The reward of a more senior wage might be in order soon enough.

Side note, it seems Jolley bang on when it comes to sensing when a young starlet worth persevering with.

Here's hoping the next wave of a similar grade; the Curran's and Buckley's of this world. We've got the successful blueprint sending them out on long loans in the non-league to cut their teeth, if they turn out similar could be a bright future in stall!

I've come home with a sore throat from shouting with joy today rather than berating the players, that says it all to me...not one passenger in this team and the spirit, togetherness and ability is there for all to see..
Jolley has boxed clever with this season's incomers, getting quality players who live close enough to commute and seem to know what this club means to its fans ..

Really great watching from an ifollow perspective as well (loving the replays this year especially when we score 5!). Cannot disagree with most of what has already been said. Was so nice to see some real intent and attacking play in the second half. I actually think Vale played the better football in the first half but after half time we went up a gear or two and they could not cope.

Just an observation but that is all three home league games now that the first half has been ok (or in Colchester case not so ok) but in the second half the players have come out all guns blazing and got a result. Against Bradford had we been more clinical we would have won. We did well to get a good point in midweek and now yesterday we were unstoppable when we got going.

Still a bit baffled why Jolley took Green off straight after he scored though. I would have got it had it been 75+ minutes but I thought that rocked us a little bit for the next ten minutes before Waterfall made it safe. Still I suppose like the Ogbu sub in midweek which left me scratching my head it did not work out too badly!

Biggest test now though will we got to Walsall play like that second half? I hope so.

We said exactly the same thing. Vale were on the rack at that point and 10 more minutes with Green on and looked likely for us to get the next goal rather than them. It matters not now but a better opposition could easily get two goals in the period it took for us to settle. The introduction of Wright swung it very much back into our favour.

Yes indeed luckily for us after the initial few minutes after they scored I thought we regained control of the match well. To be honest other than the two goals I cannot remember McKeown have to make a significant save in the match. They played pretty football, pretty ineffectively for most of the game.

Good performance on the whole yesterday, obviously!.

The goals conceded were sloppy but not of major concern. I think the mistakes will disappear as the side/defence settles and with more coaching.

Going forward at times we were brilliant to watch I thought. Whether it was the more direct route or not, we seemed to have a dynamism that I’ve not seen in a while.

Hewitt’s crossing is lethal from full back and he needs to stay there. Definite error from MJ playing Ring on Tuesday with EH in midfield but he learnt from it.

Cook had that bit of guile at times you need in the hole between opposition midfield and defence. Extra ability to drop a shoulder and run with the ball. I’m not sure how effective it will be in the long term but it certainly was yesterday.

Hanson is obviously the key to the whole thing. He must stay fit because we have no replacement for him. He was excellent yesterday again.

All brilliant (not even mentioned Ogbu) but one last thing to say about Pollock. I’m not getting carried away by him just yet but he was solid again yesterday. He did the simple things well and looks to have the belief that he belongs in the first 11 already. Not many go toe-to-toe with Tom Pope and come out on top. Happy with him playing back up right now but if he carries on like this it will be hard to say no to a starting place. If he had that extra bit of pace he could be a colossus at this level.

Regarding Ogbu it is another myth that needs to be put to bed - that he is unpredictable/ erratic/ doesn't know himself what might happen. What we have seen so far is a player with a great touch,good vision,can find a pass and yesterday can score and is very strong on the ball. He is a very good player full stop.

He can go outside/inside, be direct or find a pass but all that is because he knows how to play. A great find.

Actually just watched the extended highlights and I got the play slightly wrong for the 5th - the hold up and diagonal run for the flick on were correct but there were a few passes in between. Still a big influence and I hadn’t realised how involved he was in the lead up to his own goal.
Also haven’t heard us referred to as ‘slick’ for a long time, if ever.

Just read the match report. Another manager moaning about the conditions, and the "sticky" pitch that suits our style and stops them playing their football.

Roll on the winter rain, then it will be one less excuse to have to listen to when we've beaten someone.

Surprised me that a few have Ogbu down for MoM. I would have replaced him with Max at half-time, so shows what I know

He's a weird player - one minute he doesn't look like he's ever played football in his life, the next he's pulls off something really impressive.

You can pick moments in games that every 4th division player could do better but I think you are being harsh on Ogbu.

He is much more of a team player than I was expecting and has looked the business to me.

For the last few overs was in a huddle with myself, headphones on, on my mums front lawn in Stamford when I was meant to be cutting the grass - must have looked odd to the cars going by - the most incredible finish - we get down to needing single figures and Oz miss an easy run out and then have a valid LBW claim but they'd used both reviews. Then the final cut for 4 and I'm dancing a jig...

I remember were I was in 81 when Botham and Willis did similar things to the Aussies, I was working and sleeping in a tent in Barnsley! This has a similar feel to it, but not sure I'll remember this in 10 years time never mind 38 years time at my age ! Amazing stuff, I thought the one day final was tense!!

Unfortunately I was on holiday in Blackpool, so missed this game.
Stayed in Preston, made sure I had a change of away town footy tops to wear, never saw one person in Preston wearing a footy top.
Even in Blackpool, very few footy tops on show from other clubs.
