I see Wes Hoolohan has turned down Cambridge after training with then for the last couple of weeks, saying a move abroad is on the table.  I'd have loved to have seen him sign for us as he's just what our midfield is crying out for.

He could have proved to be one of the few missing pieces to the Mariners jigsaw...

I saw him play for Norwich against Southampton (admittedly a few years ago now) and he was the best player on the pitch that night.

He's off to Australia apparently. Cambridge fans on 1FF seem to think he was just using them to keep himself fir during pre-season.

Unrelated to this, but Cambridge related...apparently we offered George Maris a deal before he signed his deal there.

Think he has been there since 2016? So probably might have used us to get himself a better deal from Cambridge?

Yeah, could well have been. The same person reckons we offered a deal to Brad Halliday too before he went to Donny. Found it interesting as he's just a poster online who probably isn't aware of what kind of players we need, but the fact that he's mentioned a more creative CM type and a RB leads me to believe there might have been some truth in that.

Works both ways.
Hoolahan is 37.
Danny Collins was 36 when he signed and we got 2 really good seasons out of him out of the 3 he was here.
Paul Futcher and Garry Birtles were 34.  With the advances in sports science the age of 34 is probably easily comparable to a 37-year-old in the modern game.

I actually think we could probably do with one more experienced head in the squad, but maybe not Hoolohan.
