According to the official site there's no Gibson, Ohman, Ogbu, Vernam and Cardwell. In addition we've only named 4 subs.
Sounds like bare bones and we haven't kicked a ball in anger

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

Dembele brought down just outside the box, inches.

Shite free kick by him though  😀

From the Tellywag website.

https://www.grimsbytelegraph.c.....h-live-score-3140719

Today's Mariners XI: McKeown, Ring, Davis, Pollock, Hendrie, Hewitt, Hessenthaler, Whitehouse, Rose, Hanson, Green.

Subs: Battersby, Cook, Wright, Clifton.

#GTFCHad a few people asking why there are only four players on the bench.
A couple of bumps and bruises aside, some of the club’s younger players were training this morning. Gibson, Ohman and Ogbu not included - likely to be knocks, but will check post-match. Nothing to be read into IMO.

To be fair to us we should have taken the lead earlier with that header.

One good pass and a good cross from Hewitt (from which Davis should probably have scored) is all I can remember from him.

Otherwise, we're doing OK. A much better game than last week and we should probably have scored at least one. The goal wsd an absolute belter. I thought McKeown might have got a little closer to it but you wouldn't get many keepers who could have saved that shot.

Mattie Pollock is excellent. Can’t believe he’s so composed for one so young. We definitely still need another CB but I wouldn’t be unhappy if I saw him starting in the league.

Also, the goal was about as good as you’ll see all season. Absolute thunderbastard.

My first look at Town this season today. If you don’t buy a ticket, you don’t win the raffle and the last couple of seasons we have gone through far too many games without any goal threat let alone actual goals. Today we had a good number of chances and gave their keeper and defenders a really good workout. Green and Hanson look like they’ll work well together, Rose didn’t look out of place in the first team squad. In an attacking sense that was quite impressive.

I won’t read too much into the loss because I’d imagine Peterborough have their sights set on the play offs in League One and we lost to two very good goals (it’s good that we finally saw Dembele’s end product!).

Promising performance in my eyes I think Hanson is the best header-er of a ball I've seen.

The big change this term is that we have gained strength and height with Hanson, Hewitt, Pollock, Green.

Hanson won everything that reached him quite incredible.

Hewitt probably looked better at right back than centre midfield as Clifton offered a bit more in attacking phases. That said Hewitt was solid I thought and has a good delivery.

Pollock is good enough for first team alongside Davies that looked comfortable too.

We all know the main problem last season was scoring goals, every team will concede but we would go behind and the confidence would go, whereas this season although we will concede I feel we will still be in games as we have a stronger frontline. So here's to a bit more anticipation of a successful season.

Interesting run out against a very technical and composed Peterborough side, will have helped us work on our defensive shape as they must’ve had a good 60% possession at least. They carved us open 3 or 4 times in the first half hour which was concerning but we seemed to get to grips with it a little more after that. On the ball we definitely had the obvious option of going with the longer ball towards Hanson and feeding off him, this worked a few times and will cause teams no end of problems. I think we maybe did it a little too much at times though and would like to see a bit more variation, I can’t remember us attempting to play out from a goal kick once, it went to Hanson every time.

Mattie Pollock is a real prospect. He defends so well, is brave and committed, the more games he plays the more composure on the ball he will get and he’ll be able to use it more wisely. I actually wouldn’t be surprised or worried if he started ahead of Davis next week.

Our midfield is at times little one dimensional, very honest and hardworking, but we still miss that one player who stands out for technical ability, whether it be a winger or central player who can just show a bit of class on the ball and beat a man or with a killer pass. If we’re going with three in the centre then we need to have at least one creative player in there, especially without us having any natural wingers (what does Jolley have against playing with wingers 🤷🏼‍♂️) Hopefully that player or players will arrive before the window shuts.

Of the new lads, Hewitt didn’t do an awful lot in open play from midfield but put 3 or 4 lovely first time crosses in from the right hand side that we were unlucky not to score from. Whitehouse (I’ll class him as a new lad) covered a good bit of ground and looks like he’ll be excellent when we’re pressing the opposition. Neat and tidy in possession without much flair. Matt Green worked hard and ran the channels well in tandem with Rose (who I thought was one of our better players) and looked to buzz around Hanson, was unlucky not to score in the second half. As for Hanson himself, I think he’s a class player at this level, excellent in the air, strong and a real presence in the final third, needs proper service to be fully effective.

All in all not a bad performance against what I thought looked a good side. Some work to be done and some players to be signed, but if we can add one or two with a bit of quality I think we’ve got a much better squad than last season and in a lot better state than when MJ arrived.

Enjoyable game. Peterboro' have some good players, Dembelle caused panic whenever he got the ball but a bit too greedy. Their goalkeeper made outstanding saves or else we would have had something to show for several good efforts. Thought Hanson, Green and Rose worked well together.n Hewitt played better at full back-just wish Hess. would be allowed to play more of an attacking role. Still quite a bit of work to do but will only be playing against league 2 teams instead of the Posh. Attacking midfielder and a winger should be on our shopping list if there are any about.

Gotta say it was a good workout for the team but posh did look a pretty handy side...plenty of pace and moved the ball very quickly...can't see any league 2 sides being anywhere near their standard...
Up front Hanson and Greene seemed to have a good understanding of each other and Rose put himself about and showed his burst of pace, unlucky to out the header in the first half just past the post...
No really negatives taken away from today.. certainly we look more of a threat up top and I do expect more goals to come this season...
Barry Fry p@ssed me off tho, parked his car like a right arrogant get blocking the car next to him in....silly old twit...

Have to say we looked better at the back when Hewitt dropped into right back and Hendrie took up the left back spot...was really hoping Ring would come good but I really am having my doubts about him now...

I thought Ring had a decent enough game, he played left back with no winger in front to help him. Also agree with the others that said Hewitt looked better at RB.

"Falls to Arnold... Arnold! That's it! Thats it! He's sealed it! Grimsby Town are back in the football league!!! Just a minute to go and Nathan Arnold makes it 3-1! Look at the scenes behind the goal! Look at the relief! The agony is finally over!!!"

I've been a critic of Ring but don't think he really put a foot wrong today! Hewitt certainly looked more comfortable at full-back however and Hendrie was fine on a the left, though it's not ideal. As Davis can play right-back, perhaps we'll not be looking for another full-back? Two players for each side already in the squad.

According to the Peterborough Telegraph, Town gave Posh a '' physical battering'' and feature a photo of Mattie Pollock getting to grips with Ivan Toney. Ref could have doled out 3 yellows to Posh in the first half alone LOL!

Well, they certainly fell over a lot under little or no challenge yet were happy to foul us any time we got past them. To claim a 'physical battering' is nonsense. I'd imagine the report was written by somebody who didn't go to the game! I'd guess they committed more fouls than we did (perhaps only if you ignore the ones where they 'won' a free-kick for falling over).

Good to hear we’re more physical this season. We’ve been far too nice fore the past few years.

Fairly impressed yesterday and left the ground happy with what I saw . Positive play going forward and created plenty of chances against a decent team . If Peterborough’s goalkeeper hadn’t played so well we’d have scored at least 2 .
New signings looked good and we’ll def be a handful up front with Hanson and green. Rose looks like he’s really come on and will probably make the 3rd place his own on that performance.
Pollock looks a unit and didn’t look worried about their expensive strike force . Another youngster who could be a regular if he’s given the chance .

I've slagged Rose off a lot recently, but will give him credit where its deserved, he's had a decent pre-season.
Saturday, he was fantastic... still a bit raw, and some rash decisions, but he's a young lad, so I don't mind that.

Pollock reminds me of Pearson in a way, he's slow, but makes up for it with his intelligent 'football brain'
Loved it when Dembele did him for pace easily, then cut his run and got the ball, and clattered him big time, a proper old school tackle.

Hanson will get 5-10 assists, and set up even more goals without directly getting the assist, if he stays fit, he's a great player.

Hewitt can stay just for his crossing if Peterborough game is anything to go by

I'd agree that Rose looks greatly improved compared to his fleeting appearances last season. Back then, he didn't really seem to know where he should be standing or what he should be doing most of the time. In the two pre-season games I've seen so far, his positioning and movement have been much improved. I doubt he'll be a starter if everyone is fit, but a good option to have on the bench, especially against tiring defenders.

One area where he still needs to work is the defensive side of things. I'm not saying he should be running up and down the line tackling anything that moves, but he can learn how to press the ball better without committing himself and taking himself out of the game.

We all looked to Rose for this fabled electric pace, but it's been easily countered on a lot of occasions however his heading ability looks to be really impressive. Looking forward to crosses being stuck on the heads of him and Hanson, surely we're much more of a set-piece danger now.

First things first, Peterborough were very good.  First 20 minutes or so we were largely chasing shadows against a side with a hell of a lot of technical ability in their side.  If we come across any side capable of knocking it about in such a fashion, they'll go up as Champions at a canter.

Once Town settled though we gave them a good go, in fact we reduced them to two shots on goal for their goals and one that Macca had to make a smartish but relatively routine save.

Pollock is probably first choice centre-back based on pre-season showings.  Both Davis and Ohman have looked absolutely fine in respective games but Pollock looks head and shoulders above both.  Solid in the air and tackle but also willing and capable of bringing the ball out and pinging the ball out into space.   He's going to be one hell of a player.

Hewitt was anonymous in the middle but different kettle of fish at full-back.  He wasn't really tested defensively but the host of crosses he delivered were excellent, nice little short corner routine with Hessenthaler too.  Jolley ended the game with Hewitt at right-back and Hendrie at left-back.  I'm not suggesting it should happen but I do wonder if he'll go with that against Morecambe, just for the quality of crosses it allows us to put in from both flanks.

Clifton, Hess and Whitehouse are all very similar in the middle and I would like Jolley to be a bit braver and just pick two with a more advanced midfield role going to either Cook or Vernam (obviously be Cook based on current fitness) - interesting that he deployed Max Wright in that role for the last 10/15 minutes.

Up top we looked so much better with a proper 3 man attack that had pace in it.  Green and Rose worked the wings really well and offered constant outlets.  Hanson is a proper centre-forward.  He'll score as many as he sets up.  Issue is going to be the service.  Got to get people in and around him buzzing about because he'll win so many of the balls up to him, but also free up space for those willing to take a chance.  For me it has to be two either side of him and one pushing forward from the midfield.  Add to that full-backs slinging crosses in and we could cause a lot of problems going forward.

I'd like us to have a genuine creative influence in the team.  Hopefully that'll come in the form of Ogbu.  In the event it isn't him, I think you need energy and a bit of a bite between midfield and attack, hence why I think Cook should be in that role.  But otherwise I think we're there or thereabouts.  Saw the Clee Town game and then the two home friendlies.  Depth is going to be a big consideration over the course of the season.  We're top heavy in attack but that includes a lot of players who've had injury problems.  All of Cook, Cardwell, Vernam and Rose failed to stay fit last season.  Cover across the rest of the pitch mainly comes through first team professionals which isn't a bad thing but could be an issue if we lose a few experienced heads to injury/suspension.
