He wouldn’t just walk away, if after the 2 years someone was to come in for him and Town offered him pro terms then they’d be required to pay a fee. Any player on scholarship terms would require a fee from another club normally settled via a tribunal. A club at our level unfortunately that’s the youth model. Ah yes the usually ridiculous tribunal fees which normally are no way near market rate.

To be honest I had forgotten we got a fee for Burrell!

Interestingly as per the Middlesbrough website it says he signed a deal with us in April. So we did not have to sell him if we did not want to. I was under the impression (wrongly) that he had not signed his contract but we still came to an agreement with Middlesbrough without going to a tribunal.

But then you take the risk of him not maximising potential and getting 0 for him. I personally think we were in the right in regards to Burrell with the fee rumoured. Tribunal is also only required if the two clubs can’t agree a fee between them

I just hope whenever we sell any of these young players that we have a sell on clause given the transfer fees at the top 2 levels.

He's only 16, players can't sign professional contracts until they reach 17. He's signed as a Year 1 YT, so unless he does very well he won't be offered a pro contract (if at all) until May 2021.
