I will be making the long journey from Alma Park via Springfield Road (Pick son [GollyGTFC] and grandson up) to watch the Mighty Mariners. Must be all of 3 miles !

For those Town fans making the trip tonight that have never been before. There's parking right outside the ground and on the leisure centre next door has plenty of parking spaces available

Team for tonight.

There’s two trialists starting for Town this evening - Alex Penny is certainly one of them, and it looks like Tyler Garratt may be the other.

TOWN XI: Battersby, Trialist A, Öhman, Davis, Trialist, Curran, Whitehouse, Hewitt, Ogbu, Hanson, Green.

This from Grimsby Live.

Early action
Öhman punts the ball forward for Hanson, who heads it into the path of Whitehouse, but the midfielder can’t quite take it into his stride as he looks to get into the box.

Curran then concedes a free-kick as he puts a heavy challenge in - the sort you’d probably get a yellow for in the regular season

Hanson on the mark again
The goal came from Elliott Hewitt’s long throw, which was headed on by Öhman towards the back post, where Green had his effort blocked by the Grantham keeper.

The ball fell straight into the path of Hanson though, who made no mistake as fired home from the centre of the box, and the big striker has his fourth goal in two games!

Pitch is terrible. Penny isn’t much better, looked poor so far. The other trialist hasn’t done anything good or bad.

Substitutions
A lot to get through here: every outfield player, bar the two trialists, make their way off, while Rose, Buckley, Clifton, Wright, Hendrie, Hessenthaler, Ring and Pollock make their way on to the pitch. I think that’s all of them...

A good workout today, preseason seems well put together whereas last season seemed a bit shambolic with hardly any games. A case of Jolley and co. learning on the job with the experience now of a full UK senior campaign behind them?

I thought the same Rik but in actual fact we played 6 first team friendlies, 3 of which were against sunderland, Rotherham and donny last season, but I do think you're right that jolley got his pre season wrong last year, not that hed ever admit it!

Just got back. Decent run out against a Grantham team that actually weren't too bad. They won't come up against a much more physical opponent than their striker all season as he comfortably weighs in at over 20 stone.
The players:
Battersby: Didn't do much wrong really but isn't ever really likely to play so a bit irrelevant.

Penny: Very poor. I'd be very surprised and disappointed if we took another look at him. Terrible on the ball, consistently misplacing passes and definitely not a right back as he looked scared to receive the ball and didn't know when/where to move forward when we had the ball. Thanks but no thanks.

Davis and Ohman: Both did fine. Would like us to get another CB in though.

Left back trialist, Tyler Garrett?: Looked shaky at times and at fault for the Grantham goal giving far too much time and space to Berrett to cross for the assist (Berrett ffs). However, looked better when Town brought on the better midfielders. Perhaps worth another look although I'm unsure why Senior wasn't playing tonight if he impressed on Sunday?

Curran: Very raw. Some very mistimed challenges at times but not afraid to get stuck in. Seemed to be diving in more than you would like and not really intercepting much which probably isn't a good sign for a holding midfielder. Not as good on the ball for a centre mid as you'd want but he's got time to work on that.

Whitehouse: Quite liked the look of him. Think he'll be decent enough.

Hewitt: Looked poor. Pretty anonymous and had looked ponderous on the ball. Not helped by a poor pitch but nowhere near as good as Clifton or Hess or even Hendrie when they came on.

Ogbu: A few misplaced touches and passes but he's clearly very quick and strong. Doesn't look sharp yet but I think he'll come good.

Green: Know what you're getting from him and looks in great shape.  I reckon he'll bag us 10-15 and work his knackers off which is what we need.

Hanson: Great signing if he stays fit. Absolute unit, smart player and dangerous in the box. Been crying out for him since Bogle left.

Subs:

Ring: Looked poor defensively and with the ball. Jury still out.

Pollock: Scored. A bit inexperienced to get turned by their enormous striker by getting too close and being pulled into his gravitational field but he's still developing.

Hess: Oozes class, made such a difference.

Hendrie: Class, good on the ball and the midfield was so much more cohesive with him, Clifton and Hess.

Clifton: Some good driving runs and seems to be back to full fitness. Really hoping he'll kick on even more this season, I like Harry a lot.

Buckley: Some nice touches and good feet but lacking in pace a bit. Still developing.

Wright: Looks the real deal. Glides over the surface, very quick when he gets going but he's not weak either. Very direct which I liked and goes past players easily. Definitely a good option for us to have and something we lacked last season.

Rose: Never really seen him open up his legs before but Christ he can move. Still very raw but if he could harness his pace he'd be dangerous.

I think we're still missing a CB, CM and LB from the starting eleven to make it a very good side. We're also lacking a bit of depth with only two full backs and one of them being a bit dodgy. But there were encouraging signs. Long way to go until start of the season yet and I expect at least four more signings.

I thought the same Rik but in actual fact we played 6 first team friendlies, 3 of which were against sunderland, Rotherham and donny last season, but I do think you're right that jolley got his pre season wrong last year, not that hed ever admit it!

I’m 99% sure at the Q&A with Ohman and Ring that Jolley openly admitted he got pre season wrong last year. Stated there would be changes about how they go about things this year.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Alright, so he’s not up against professional athletes in that footage but the pace and power shown by Ahkeem Rose there is frightening. I’m excited by the prospect of what the season could hold for the likes of him and Wright.

Adding on what Poojah said although against part timers Akheem left the poor boy running through treacle.

I think it could be a year for our youngsters obviously we have Clifton already established with a full season under his belt but for the likes of Rose, Pollock, Buckley and Wright could have some very good little prospects. I hope they get given a fair crack of the whip which hasn't always been the case for youths in the past think we will have a rough idea when the friendlies against Doncaster and Peterborough pan out.

Ignore me. Thought Garratt was a centre half for some reason.

I see he's been on trial at St Johnstone too.
