Legally that's always been the case. It's just so much easier to broadcast or publish an opinion or a statement now.

It's just authority catching up with the tech changes. And ironically, they're ahead of a lot of ordinary people for once. What people used to say to their mates, they're now broadcasting on social media without thinking it through.

Have to agree.
Libel is libel when all said and done if you're daft enough to put it in writing...
There's a lot to be said about Facebook privacy settings too, only mates can see what I say and I'm careful about that too.
Now down the pub after a few pints....

I got the impression from the Exeter statement that it wasn’t libel that was the concern, more general abuse and even specifically racist abuse, which is a criminal offence.
