Town looking to modernise ticket issue at BP. Great news and I approve of these changes. I am a bit baffled as to why they seem to need approval from fans for these changes though. Do they have to justify spending the money on it?

Rather than spending money on upgrading turnstiles at BP, wouldn't it be better to concentrate on securing a new stadium where these things would be part of the build?

I'm a bit baffled as to why we're spending cash on a stadium we want to knock down.

Maybe because we all moan like fck about the archaic system we use now and presumably any cost could be offset by saving ticket office staff time and the turnstiles could be moved to any new stadium.
About time...however of course it's something that puts the price up.

Stuff like this is portable these days. No objection to it being put in at BP to be clear. I just don’t understand why asking if we want to modernise the club is even a question.

He’s not asking whether we should modernise . He’s asking how people feel about paying more for it.

What I don’t understand is why you should pay more to print at home. Surely that saves money on stationary and on the printer.

What if you haven't got a printer?

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

I work in the music industry and use virutuly every major  ticketing company. They all charge fees, booking fees, service fees etc that are passed on to the customer. I read this as "would gtfc fans be happy paying a bit more in booking fees etc"   I am sure GTFC have this covered already but if anyone from the club wants any pointers on the best and worst, ones that offers best service and benefits etc, drop me a private message and id be more than happy to pass on advice etc.

Then you can either buy one or go to the ticket office to buy one. I think it it's great the club are looking a modernising ticketing. There have been any occasions tickets have been released in the week before the game, but I've been at work so it's been a game. If you can make it easier for your customers, especially if you are reducing costs then it can only be a good thing.

Most of the e tickets from the decent ticketing company's will scan from your phone to, so no need to print out.

Not at all. Obvs if you have a nokia 3210 it aint gonna work.  but any smartphone, even the basic ones work. I sell hundreds of thousands of tickets a year and encounter very few issues with e tickets.

To clarify, I have no problem modernising the ticketing process just how it's implemented and I'm not quite sure how you can put customer costs up when, essentially, the product hasn't changed.

this depends on which company the club end up using, because some will charge for this. But most of the better ones offer a "collection at box office" option that has no added cost.

Anything that makes it easy to pay in advance and not have to queue up on the day has to be a good idea. As long as supporters who prefer traditional means aren't overlooked.

For something that could save quite a bit of time and work for the admin. department to ask the fans to pay for it is balderdash in my opinion.

Suppose it depends on how much they charge.

Would rather buy a ticket online and be able to scan it on the door to same time on having to queue up to pick up tickets or buy one at the ticket office. There is no reason for anyone to still be using paper tickets these days except to please a few geeks who still collect ticket stubs.

Like the idea of a credit card season ticket and a modern system. Not sure why costs have to be passed onto fans when the club should save hugely on admin costs.

Most places you book online come with an added admin/booking fee, particularly if the system is run by a third party.
Just get on with it, its what other entertainment venues, events have been doing for years.  It will be good to catch up for once.

His last sentence was was little contentious but his general idea is correct. If you have a bar code reader on the turnstyles there is no reason you couldn't download you ticket to your phone and scan the bar code that way. If that is what you are comfortable with doing of course, while still leaving the options to print the ticket or pick it up from the ground itself.

It is long overdue that ticketing system at BP was overhauled. It should be much easier to buy a ticket online than it currently is.

As I don’t now how to start a new thread I’ll mention this as it’s to do with tickets. Our club has an offer on which my Dad has been looking forward to for the last few years. When you reach the age of 85 you receive a free season ticket. He’s now reached that milestone. Fantastic we thought, on going to get our two season tickets in the same two seats we’ve had for ever, we are told that I can get my same seat as I’ve paid for but for my Dads seat we have to go and claim his free one every week at the ticket office. I’m furious at this for two reasons, I live away in Yorkshire as some of you will know meaning my Dad will have to make the extra journey every week which isn’t easy for him and secondly what if someone takes the seat next to mine which has always been his because someone got to the ticket office before him? He’s very upset about it all. As I’ve said I’m furious about this as he’s been a season ticket holder for decades and this is what he gets?

I would contact the trust Oochiad. This should be exactly the sort of thing they pick up and liaise with the club to sort. How is it not easier and preferable for all concerned not to just give him a free season ticket?!

Not taking the p1ss, but have you actually made this point to those concerned?  I would think a letter/e-mail to Dave Smith or Wraithy should generate some kind of official reply.  This may make them think about current procedures !!!

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

It's a great thing for the club to do as well. It should be a nice bit of winning hearts and minds with a picture in the paper of a lifelong fan being presented with his season ticket.

Good advice.
Write a letter explaining the situation and add in the points people have suggested.
If they aren't persuaded to do the right thing there are plenty of channels available to publicise it.

If what he said was as above then I assume that is what "those concerned" told him.

Yes, but if ‘those concerned’ didn’t know the circumstances they would just quote club policy. That is fine, but if it’s only ‘policy’ as opposed to written in stone and they are made aware of a problem, , they might make an exception !!!

Well I must be missing something, I thought the chap went into the the office and asked if his 85 year old father could have the free season ticket for his current seat and he was told no he would have to go in ever home game to claim the seat as opposed to it being his permanently for the season.. So whoever he spoke to new the circumstances and if what he was told was the club policy then that is a bollox policy irrespective of who was made aware of it.

Is this the ancient mariner concession??
Sounds like a free ticket not a ST??
From the charter:

Ancient Mariner 85 and over, free entry with paying accompanying chaperone, proof of age is required.

Firstly who did the poster actually speak to ??
Was it a manager,assistant etc.
It won't be exactly difficult to establish the policy-as stated earlier there are plenty of channels to explore to resolve it.
I'm sure the PR department (ha ha)won't want it plastered all over social media.
GT will love another negative story for the club mind.

The son can hardly be his father's 'chaperone' if they are sitting apart or even in different blocks / stands can he? Of course he could give up his regular seat and hope the one next to the one his father is allocated is free from week to week

flipping ridiculous and a bloody disgrace, hope the Telewag run with it.

Let's be honest, how many 85+ fans are going to take up the offer, not many I would suggest.....just give them a free season ticket in their chosen seat FFS.

Surely if they advertise "free season ticket" then that is what you should get. A free ticket that you have to pick up every game is not a season ticket. A season ticket is a book of tickets for every home game.

So let me get this straight, you're moaning about getting something for free? The expression "choosing beggar" springs to mind.

Your missing the point.
I was inquiring whether the policy is a free ST or a concession for each game.
The information regarding the free ticket is from the fans charter.
Does anybody know whether an "ancient mariner" is entitled to a ST?
Personally a no brainer me but whats the actual current policy?

If I ran a business and had a promotion like this, giving away a product for free, and people were as outraged as some on here, I'd stop the promotion. How people can moan because they are getting something for free amazes me. It's a free season ticket, you just have to pick it up for every home game, it's not a massive issue. I'm pretty sure if you rang the club and booked the seat next to you, they'd oblige as they are normally very good in there.

Doh?????? If it is a season ticket why have to pick one up each game.

If you were a season ticket holder and the club said you have to go into the club before each game to get a ticket whether it is free or not I am sure you would be drunk off.

I'm in my 60s and suffer some mobility problems God knows what I will be like if I get to 85 but the club expecting an 85 year old to go down to the ground to get their ticket each game is urine poor if that is the current situation.

Because the terms of the offer are you pick it up from the ticket office. How about people read terms and conditions on things before suffering outrage? May be, just may be, there is a reason that the tickets have to be collected before hand.

This is why the club can never do anytihng right. They offer a free ticket and half the Fishy get up in arms because the terms and conditions don't meet their standards. Everyone is missing the point here - the club is offering something for free and people still want more.

It’s a free ticket wrapped in a load of unnecessary red tape. How difficult can it be to be flexible?

On one hand it seems annoying and unnecessary, but on the other it would be open to exploitation from people if they gave out a free season ticket to over 85's. You could take an elderly relative/friend/neighbour to get a free ticket and then give it to somebody else or sell it and abuse the system.

Having to go to the ticket office before a match seems like a reasonable price to pay in order to get a free ticket. Hopefully the club will be flexible and figure out some way to reserve a seat next to the ST holder. But even if not, the ground always has empty seats so it's not like they won't be able to sit together somewhere.

Wouldn’t it be great if the ground didn’t have empty seats though? Wouldn’t it be better if the free ST had to take photo ID to prove identity? There’s got to be a better way to deal with this than a weekly visit to the ticket office.

No idea who you are, but it’s like you’re someone from the boardroom. Always a reason why something can’t or shouldn’t be done. Always look for an excuse. Never look for a way to ensure it happens.

There are a million ways to make sure this isn’t abused. Find a way to implement those, not immediately look at the negative. Grimsby Town to a tee.

No, I just try to look at things from both sides and since there's enough negativity on here, I post the other side. I try to view things in life from both points of view, whereas a few on here just moan about everything without even thinking about why it is that way. Sure, it could be better and hopefully awareness of these issues will result in changes in policy for the better.

At the end of the day, it's a free ticket, if you don't like the club's terms then you can always buy one.

Sums it all up really. Absolutely zero instinct in what a football club needs to be progressive or engaging with the fanbase. Also a club employee approaches about 20 regular posters on the GTFC hashtag re digital ticketing. 20, and why did he have to? Where is the courage of conviction, nous and decisiveness for the greater good of the football club? And the Ancient Mariner debacle. It's insanity that the people who run our football club run our football club. And it's insanity that they get all indignant and huffy because they think they're doing a great job. Absolute fooking denial while the remains of our loyal supporter's hearts bleed for our club, seethe to the point of their heads nearly exploding or quietly comtemplate walking away like thousands of others have done before them.

Pen Penfras, there isn't a positive side to put forward re the past twenty years. How the hell can't you see it? It'll be another season of nothingness off the pitch and probably similar on the pitch too and we'll be here this time next year with our board still failing to look past their over-inflated egos to see the damage they are doing. We've turned into a proper Barnstoneworth tinpot club run by a bunch of unqualified muppets..

I think the worst thing about this is that GTFC can't (won't) guarantee that the old fella can sit next to his lad and that he has to leg it to BP every time not knowing where he will be sitting.

No one disputes that a free ticket for every home game is a great offer rightly given to senior supporters in recognition for their years of support and quite a surprise frankly for GTFC to give anything away.

It just seems sad that the old fella may not take them up on their kind gesture as two major obstacles appear to be in place.

A cynic might suspect that the club to not want to allocate the particular seat (like a ST) for every game in case the old chap can't attend them all through health, age or whatever and they hope to actually sell a ST for that seat at full price to someone

Look, this is typical GTFC. Turn something positive into a negative by not thinking things through.

Giving a free season ticket to the over 85s is a really nice idea. But why make it so fricking difficult? Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

It sounds like the club wants to make it difficult and make people suffer for the privilege. The average 85 year old in the Grimsby area has probably given so much to the club, the town and the businesses within it, they should be shown more respect.

its a nice gesture already from the club....does anybody know how many other clubs offer a free ticket for over 85's ?

while this is only one instance of complaint about how it fits with one person the club shouldnt ignore it ...the club now need to cherish the complaint because its an opportunity to improve its customer service.

do they look at making an exception in this case ?  do they review the scheme ?  do they stick to the party line as there is an opportunity for abuse ? do they seize the opportunity to turn it into PR exercise and make the fella a guest of honour one game ...or have an ancient mariners section in the programme featuring a different person each week ? First game, best memory etc...

As the club appear to be currently reviewing the ticket booking system then surely an ancient mariners members scheme or photo id card could be arranged as part of it ?

Surely we should be moving in stages. Let’s get into the 20th Century first !!

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

If their worried about abuse of the system print an 'Ancient Mariner' watermark through all the tickets, they can then be easily verified at entry. Its not rocket science is it?

Anyway give it a few years we'll all be entering grounds using biometric tickets the same way kids get cashless catering and library books at school these days (well probably the other 91 pro clubs be doing this!).
