Basically they loved Newell because he went out on the urine with the team, but Woods didn't like the drinking culture and they all refused to play for him.

I've not listened to the interview BUT...

It's the manager's job to get the best out of the players at his disposal. You can't do that if you alienate them all even if you think you're right. A good manager picks his battles carefully. The only battle Woods had was to keep us in the football league, not to turn the playing squad tee-total. If Woods had done that he could have changed the culture of the club in the summer by releasing players he didn't want en-masse.

flipping hell! No wonder we went down.

Drinking on the way to training, disgraceful. Always thought that group were the biggest bunch of tossers, no respect for the club or fans who paid their wages so they could go out on the urine every night!

I think it was common knowledge that Mike Newell was an alkie (allegedly), but it seems that most of the players were too!

Just look at Barry Conlon, he had more points on his driving licence than we did the whole season 😂
