Legend has it that the Newcastle United representative voted in favour of the Posh. Unlike Hartlepool Gateshead had never applied for reelection before. The dirty trick paid off as 95% plus of football fans in Gateshead today support Newcastle. Gateshead is a fairly big town but being just a bridge away from Newcastle means they've struggled since 1960. Credit to the few hundred stalwarts who are loyal to their home-town club.
