Just realised next Saturday's home game against Crewe will be the last game at BP with the old iconic floodlights.

It'll be strange without them after all these years.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Will they be switched on at all? For the last time and all that

Be nice if this last game was a fiver or a tenner even just for something like the last game with the iconic BP Floodlights

I think they may be switching them on with 10 minutes to go.

Taking my 5 year old lad to his first game on Saturday. Clearly the history of those floodlights will be lost on him but nice that there’s a degree of significance about his first match in what would have otherwise been a forgettable fixture.

I take one of two routes to BP every game. One is via Cleethorpe/Grimsby Road from Docks Beers and the other is through Sidney Park from Queen Mary Avenue. The first thing you see looking towards BP from both is those floodlights. They’ll be missed as landmarks but the world moves on. I hope any new home for us has as iconic features.

You never know, could they take them down in such a way that they could be refurbished and rebuilt at another location 🤔😍

Also, why don't the trust have a collection pot under each floodlight tower called, "turn on the lights" as an incentive and a bit of fun to getting them turned on at a certain time?

The money raised could go towards something worth while.

FFS they are just a set of lights that are well past their sell by date. Would you all get so emotional if they replaced the streetlights where you live if they had been around for 50 years. If some of you lot had been around when street gaslights were replaced with electric I bet you'd have been crying in your beer because " an era was over ".

Has anyone seen what they are going to be replaced with?

Lights are not just lights, they are an important part of stadium design. I imagine the new ones will be cheap as chips and make the ground a little less iconic.

Call me a sentimental old fool but when I was little I lived on Lovett Street and from the upstairs bedroom window on a night when Town were playing I seem to recall what was a welcoming warmth in the glow cast from BP

Maybe they are just an antiquated structure now ( a bit like me ) but a few weeks back I was driving down Isaac's Hill and there on the horizon looking down Grimsby Road were those lights

It might not mean anything to some people but the old ground will always be etched in my memory and taking the lights down will be tinged with some sadness for me

The floodlights are a large part of what gives Blundell Park its character (one of the few genuinely good things we have going for us). Obviously, they're past their best by date and have to be replaced but we'll likely go from having a excrement ground with lots of character, to having a excrement ground with a lot less character. If you're not slightly sad about the prospect of them going, then you're essentially made of stone.

There'll be a nostalgic twinge for me. Looking up at them for the last time as the teams come out, reminiscing about past glory, imagining the sights, the sounds that those old metal structures have witnessed....

But then Town will play shite and I'll just go home in a bad mood.

The two games I remember the most under the the old floodlights was Town 2-1 Everton and Town 7-2 Darlington.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

I’m with Rancido on this, the whole floodlight nostalgia is a fuss over nothing. They’re not iconic at all, every ground has them. Blundell Park is a relic and needs replacing pronto. Onwards and upwards I reckon. I’ve been to hundreds of games a BP over the years, probably 50% of them awful, and I’ll not shed a tear when/if it’s gone. All I care about is the club surviving, and ultimately reaching its potential. It can’t do that at Blundell Park. I’ll not miss the floodlights as I’ve never really looked at them before!

The BP floodlights might not be iconic in themselves but were iconic to football grounds in general.
Since first going to away games in the early 70's nothing more filled us with a sense of expectation and excitement than our first glimpse of the tall floodlights as the train pulled into whatever town we were playing at.
I think the only time it bit us in the bottom was at Wigan when homing in on the ground, pub by pub using the floodlight pylons as a 70's sat nav we ended up at the illegitimate rugby ground instead of Springfield Park. Not the first or last to do that in Wigan by all accounts either.
To this day I still crane my neck for a glimpse of them when I know I am passing certain grounds.
Last year I was flying to Manchester Airport and the route took us over the coast just North of Ingoldmells, as clear as day you could see the shadow of one of the floodlight pylons across the top of the Main Stand, and that was from 30,000 feet up.
They are sadly few and far between now and sadly missed by myself.

Exactly this.
Floodlights iconic??
A new stadium is essential to the future of the club & all efforts should be made to ensure this.
Why worry about a set of pylons???

Was in the club shop last week, they said that there might be a chance they wouldn’t be coming down, they’re just preparing themselves in case they don’t pass their safety certificate test close season. 👍🏼

Wont look right without them, I love the fact you can see them from such a long way off. In the old days that was how you could find your way to a football ground, by looking out for the floodlights. Nowadays its look for the road signs pointing to a retail or industrial park.  (Jumpers for goalposts etc.)

The two games I remember the most under the the old floodlights was Town 2-1 Everton and Town 7-2 Darlington.
GTFC 3 Exeter 0 Tuesday 2nd May 1972?

Mist drifting off the humber and mingling with woodbine smoke under the lights

Quite a few memorable cup wins but never the same after BP went all seater.
