(It's dead quiet at work at the mo!  )

So we've played 26 games
Currently we have 34 points from a possible 78

W - 10
D - 14
L - 12

Very interesting last season Chesterfield finished bottom on 38 points!!!

W - 10
D - 8
L - 28

Morecambe stayed up on goal difference on 46 points with just 9 wins!!!

Town safe in 18th in the end on 51 points (interesting that's the same points Lincoln are currently on sat Top of the pile)

W- 13
D - 12
L - 21

So 20 games left this season , , , , , 10 Home and 10 Away

A top seven finish is a BIG ask but by no means impossible , , but realistically we would need to win 10 or more of our remaining games maybe??

Again this just shows how big a month Jan is regarding shaping our season , ,  with results and players in / out

Just nice to not be looking over our shoulders and unless some kind of disaster we should be safe from a relegation scrap , , , , a win Sat will see us 16 points ahead of the drop zone with a game in hand

So then 20 games to go , , , , , , 60 points left to play for , , , , , ,

Predictions boys and girls on what we will do??

A thread to look back on come 4th of May

Too early to say for me where we could /hope to finish......let's see where we are after the transfer window first.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

The way we've played in the last month or so, against teams higher than us and with a depleted defence, it's very difficult to not be optimistic for the remaining 20 games.

We're no different to anyone else in that we're reliant on a few key players.  For me we would really miss McKeown, Clifton, Hessenthaler, Embleton and Thomas for any sustained period of time.  McKeown is self-explanatory, the midfield three are key to everything we do in terms of tempo and energy whereas Thomas does a lot of selfless work but has developed a very nice habit of chipping away with key goals.   Time would of course tell if we could manage without them.  Russell is a very capable deputy, in Rose and Welsh we've two very good back-up midfielders (although not sure if we could replicate the current energy levels) , Vernam may well be capable of doing the Embleton role if given a chance centrally.  Equally so Cardwell may well just need that run of games under his belt in his preferred position.

I've seen nothing to fear in this division and now we're in our stride we definitely shouldn't go into any games thinking a draw would be a good result.  As a unit, we look really tight and together which is a powerful weapon when it comes to the business end of the season.

Pre-season I had expectations of a top-half finish with a sneaky hope we may just get into the play-offs.  October/early November it was difficult to imagine anything other than a relegation scrap.  Now, truth be told, I'll be secretly disappointed if we don't have a real go at the top 7.

I think we’ll finish on 70 points in 9th position.

28 points from 20 games puts us on 62 for the season.

We have to factor in a continuation of some of the negatives which have dogged the first half season:-

1. Injuries, particularly to key defenders.
2. New signings who need game time to get up to speed.
3. Shoot in the foot sendings off.
4. Targetting of our younger and lighterweight players by seasoned muscular opponents.
5. Shocking referees.
6. Absence of a genuine finisher.
7. Modest expectations in the Boardroom as reiterated by JF today

Some, or all may apply, so mid table positivity it is!

My hopes for the playoffs have been rather dampened by today’s intervention from you know who.
