Due to our injury crisis at the back and quality of opposition. I would go with 5 at the back with wingbacks today...

                                McKeown

              Hall-Johnson    Hendrie      Fox
Clifton                                                                  Ring
                      M.Rose         Hessenthaler

         Cardwell                                  Embleton

                                 Thomas

Thoughts??

Nah not for me. Just means more disruption and even more playing out of position. No desire at all to see Harry Clifton at wing-back.

Clifton has been superb in midfield for last few months, whilst he was rubbish at wing back at the start of the season. My thoughts are obvious!

Best way is to stick with what we know and are good at. That’s a four in defence and midfield with Hess between the two.

You can debate who plays where but i don’t think it's a game to be playing around with the sharp.

For me;

                 Macca
RHJ, Hendrie, Fox/Ring (not sure which you’d play where)
                  Hess
Cardwell Embleton Clifton Pringle
                 Thomas

Cardwell ahead of Vernam for his height at set plays, defence and attack. As we are missing CB’s

Gosh, not seen any evidence of Cook's aerial abilities!  Embleton and Vernam's willingness to attack the box, winning free kicks throw ins and pens etc. gets us up the field. We have to play it on the deck and move up as a team. Any sitting back hoping for a breakaway is suicide. Clifton and Vernam are key to transition when we win the ball back. They can link to Wes and Cardwell, hopefully, playing to feet.

If I was a betting man (which I am but a rubbish one), I would expect to see the same starting line up as Mansfield.  With a small chance of Ring replacing Rose in defence and maybe Vernam for Cardwell.

Vernam is maybe a foot taller than Cook 🤔

Don't think we can go to Palace hoping to defend all match, so we need our best attacking options and hope to get a goal or two.
(Though they might easily get 6!)

So Pringle has to play for set-piece delivery, and Vernam too because defenders don't like folk running at them.
Think it would be unfair to sling Ring in for this one (unless MJ assesses him to be match ready), and I don't see why we shouldn't
pick Pollock (I bet he wants to play). So:

                           Macca
Hall_J      Hendrie   Pollock        Fox
                           Hess
Vernam    Clifton   Embleton   Pringle
                        Thomas

I'd swap Hendrie and Hsll J around from that selection. We need our best players in their strongest position, apart from that it looks good.

Has Davis been confirmed as definitely out? Concussion about a week and a half ago, not sure if that initial 2 weeks injury time was set in stone or not?
