Got to thinking that with Embleton staying until the end of the year, Cardwell signing a new deal, the emergence of RHJ and Clifton plus an ever decreasing average age throughout our squad that there's be a seismic change in philosophy with MJ?.. After years of signing journeyman looking for a final pay day we are now bringing through youth and developing players to go forward in the footballing world... Go to say, all this is bringing much needed positive not only to a club that's been on its uppers for a while now but also putting the club back on the footballing map...UTM, Black and white til I die.

Been saying for years that young hungry players with a point to prove is the way forward, but for some reason, we kept on with the policy of signing players who were once good enough to play at a higher level, with the mistaken belief that they would p1ss the lower divisions. They very rarely do, with a few exceptions. They no longer have the drive they once did, and are mostly looking for one last hurrah and pay day. Not only young players either. There are players in the lower reaches who have slipped through the net like Cockers did, and end up playing part time, when given a chance, they could shine in a better side.
If you give young players a chance, and time to develop, it will invariably pay dividends. Problem is that managers like Slade and Hurst, will always play the percentages and won't take risks. It's the reason i never took a liking to either of them. I was hoping Bignot would change that, but he went at it like a bull in a china shop. It does take a leap of faith though, if like we were at the start of the season, you end up getting spanked almost weekly. You need to hold your nerve and let the team progress together, hopefully before you get relegated. A lot of chairmen quickly abandon such plans if the team is in danger of the drop. It takes a canny manager to blend youth and experience, especially with a limited budget, and impatient fans.
Jolley seems to making a fair fist of it so far. Really hoping we kick on now with some prudent transfer business.

Managers don’t take the risk because like ginnywings said at the start of the season you could loose a lot of games to they gel and learn of each other.
Nowadays you don’t get time to build something, look how many managers in this league have been sacked already, even a small number of town fans wanted Jolley gone saying his out his depth earlier in the season,
I honestly believe half the managers that get sacked would turn things around in any league if they got time on there side.
Unless your called Russell Slade , he had to much time and nearly got us relegated with one of the oldest teams in the league and the time.

A change in philosophy? The right change? Definitely in my view.
If we get a reputation in the game for looking after and bringing on young talent will mean we could attract Youth from not only in the Grimsby area but out of Yown as well. In addition to this other bigger clubs would be interested in loaning out to us more Embleton’s and his like for sure.
What I like about the youngsters in the squad currently they never stop running and that’s making a big difference IMHO.

I think the most important point is that we have a manager who sees the value of utilising our Youth System and also developing young players who have been discarded by other clubs but have potential that he recognises. The last 4 or 5 managers seemed to have wanted " off the shelf players " and just payed lip service to the Youth System.

Incidentally, I work with the brother of a young lad who’s been training with Town since the summer whilst continuing to get some games in non-League.
I believe it remains to be seen whether he’ll ever get a contract with Town but the overriding sentiment shared with me is how good everyone at the club has been to him. From the manager, to the coaching staff to the players themselves, it seems that we simply have a team of genuine, decent people working incredibly hard towards a common goal.
It’s probably not fair for me to say any more than that, but for the first time in a long time there appears to be real unity in the squad and staff and an emerging identity. Long may it continue.

So good to hear this after some of the bullying stories coming out of other clubs at the moment

It can never do any harm and it might do you some good. Gives you that little bit of an extra edge.
