I see Grimsby are training in Birmingham ahead of traveling down to Exeter today ready for tomorrows Match.

Obviously it’s going to cost to stay over night somewhere and am guessing finding somewhere to train is going to cost too.

Also guessing they will be staying over in London next weekend too,

I was wondering if anyone knew if training and staying over is a regular thing for Town on long away days or as it just stared this season?

I know it could be a one off but it’s nice to see the board allowing this and giving M.J what he things he needs for best preparation for away games.

M.J has done nothing but praise the board for there help in giving him what he needs on and off the pitch, allowing the changes his done when he came to the club like little things about the team not having to wash there own gear anymore.

Nice to see the manager getting the full backing where needed, players might seem to want to move here now with all these little touches making us seem a lot more professional.

Even up at Auchinleck if we play away in the Junior Cup or Scottish Cup, and it's in the Highlands we stay overnight. It's common sense more than anything else....and a huge drain on resources when you play three successive Scottish Cup ties away at Wick Academy, Cove Rangers and Fraserburgh.

Been out for a walk up to the fitties this afternoon, and i was positive i saw MJ walking along the sea front in a tracky, with some toddlers in tow. Maybe a doppelganger.

Town have for as long as I can remember have done overnight trips for all weekend matches over I think 2-3 hours away.
They tend to not stay over if its a night game but choose to travel in the morning and stop  to train somewhere en-route

How do you know hes getting full backing from the board, hes not gonna say hes not is he, he'll be give a tight budget and that's it, you have manage with that, and that's the way it is, except at Manchester City. Overnight stays are regarded as a treat for the players, its down to whether to stay before or after a game, they don't get two nights.  But back in Slade 1.0 days they flew down to play Exeter City in the FA Cup when City were non league, didn't work, town lost, another humiliation from Slade & Fenty...

Have the players ever stayed overnight after a game, possibly a Wembley match but never heard of them staying after a league game.

With regards to the opening post staying overnight happens often at some of the bigger clubs in league 2 whilst playing away.Clubs with less resources in league 2 travel to the games early in the morning via coach and do the occasional overnight if distances are to far.

Sounds bad doesn’t it? I would guess though that if there was any truth at all it would not apply to playing strips, just possibly perhaps some elements of training gear or even training kit that belongs to a player personally.

Training kit is understandable to a degree but I'd be shocked if the playing strip isn't washed for them.  In fact it was true I'd do it for free if it's that bad lol.

You can always tell a team where players wash their own kit - they always play in shades of mucky grey!

It's usually a reciprocal arrangement as the home club pays the away clubs travelling expenses for league games

It's not true. I have a friend who drives for the laundry company that has the contract and they collect and deliver from Cheapside every training day. I don't know where some of these stupid and pathetic rumours/urban myths spring from!

I was gonna say.  Thank god we're not that tinpot.  Although from what I got told on boxing day town's dressing room could with a face lift.  They still have the old treatment table with a rip in the leather.

Is that a result of some of Dave Moores' more vigorous treatments!

LOL.... I dread to think.  My mate has played several finals at BP and said the dressing hadn't changed one bit.  The amount of neglect is disappointing but I understand they don't want to spend money on an aging out of date stadium.

I'm fairly sure I can remember James Mckeown saying in an interview that the players used to take their own kit home to wash but Russell Slade stopped that?

Well my mate has been collecting the kit from Cheapside for at least three years so at least some if not all the training kit was going to the laundry. It's bad enough that people repeat some of this bo**ox but even worse that others actually believe it !

MJ certainly said that he made ‘little’ changes to add professionalism when he arrived and this included the washing of training kit
I have repeated “this balderdash” and tend to believe him

MJ said he found it unprofessional and macca was complaining about it - that's my memory of it anyway. Might try and find it. Think macca was on that d3d4 podcast saying it but I have been known to be wrong!

Couldnt be arsed to look for the macca interview for d3d4
But
The fact MJ had to put a stop to players sometimes washing their own training kit is referenced in a buildup interview for the palace game in the independent I happened to be reading tonite...

Good article toon town
https://www.coachesvoice.com/michael-jolley/

This is the link to the really interesting Michael jolley video on his tactics v Malmö which seems to have been his plan for tackling palace

The 2 attacking players mentioned now play for Sirius in the Swedish premier league and for st. Triuiden in the Belgian Jupiter league. Before anyone asks they are both west African so work permits might be a problem!
