Just read that Paddy Ashdown has died. True British patriot and hero and a politician with principles.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Shame he lead the smallest party in UK politics as always thought he was a decent politician.

Maybe that shows the decency of the man. Any pure careerist would have come to the conclusion that he was never going to become prime minister in the LibDems.

Nice to see that all the True Patriots have expressed their condolences about Paddy's death. Maybe being a war hero doesn't count as being a True patriot if you don't believe in an Independent Britain.

Really? didn't accept a democratic decision by the British people and more importantly didn't eat his hat.

He was sticking to what he thought was right.

I always had plenty of time for Paddy seemed a decent man but all his good work in building up the Lib Dems was destroyed in one fell swoop when Clegg got into bed with the Tories.

Same with me...

There's always been something about some of the Libs that I can relate to but then when Clegg sold out to Cameron they lost all credibility in my eyes
