Terrible news as Moan Utd sack Mourinho. I'd rather hoped he'd continue there for many years. he'd been doing such a good job of leading them downhill

Has Sol Campbell applied? He’s won a game at Macclesfield you know.

Carrick odds-on favourite to replace him

https://www.oddschecker.com/football/manager-specials/man-utd/next-permanent-manager

be amazed if they appointed someone so inexperienced

I’m not sure the job is as attractive as it once was to be honest.
I know it’s still up there. But maybe a bit of a poisoned chalice??
Fergie saw the writing on the wall. He also saw the noisey neighbors getting noisier !!

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

I think that Benitez has stayed at Newcastle waiting for this day and will end up at Old Trafford.

Even if you didn't want him in the first place and he was signed against your wishes on the fact he was a marketing mans dream signature not necessarily the player or personality that the squad needed ?

Would never have happened with Fergie...no player was bigger than the club whilst he was there and as a result they won plenty.

A lot of their decline was DUE to Ferguson in my opinion. He allowed the squad to age together (Giggs, Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand, Berbatov, Scholes) and after not winning the title shortly before he left, he signed aging players like Van Persie to give him one more title before he buggered off into the sunset. He did get the absolute maximum out of that aging squad in his last season though.

Well Mourinho has gone from being " The Special One " to " The Doley One "!!. A few teams might miss out now from 3 easy points.

They'll go for Pochetino at seasons end I reckon. Zidane would be a huge, flash event but Man Utd need to convince their worldwide support how powerful they are, so steal away a respected manager from one of your rivals and show everyone that no one is bigger than ManYoo.

As a United supporter for as long as I have followed Town (Town always no 1) I have never understood the level of hate for them.  Sure they had a lot of success in recent  years but they had their fair share of barren years especially when Liverpool were all conquering indeed they suffered relegation in the 70,s yet the whole world seems to despise them without the same for City Liverpool Chelsea but after years if this I suppose I must just take it

No doubt Mourinho will blame their rubbish results v Crystal Palace and Wolves on Man City and Liverpool spending loads of money (which Man U didn't, of course).

Ferguson moved with the times, Mourinho keeps wheeling out the same act and it doesn't work anymore.

There’s plenty to choose from, ex-players like Hughes and Bruce, even Giggs and Keane. But they will want a statement manager. If they can’t get Zidane or Wenger or Ponch they might go to South America for someone we’ve never heard of. They might go for someone immediately available without hassle like Wenger. I suspect Wenger is finished in the PL now though, he’s done it all so why bother? Zidane is also free and I reckon he fancies it. Is he good enough at the big decisions though? He owed a lot at Madrid to his big gorilla mate on the pitch.

He was one of the best coaches in the world,

They were one of the best teams in the world,

BUT

He never looked happy in the job recently and turned into a grumpy git,

One of his interviews would only encourage the team he was playing ,

Because he did not encourage his own players.

When all the Man U (not exclusively them) fans at school are laughing at young kids for supporting their local team, when said person has never seen "their" team play except for on TV, it kind of puts you off them.

For me it's not a hate of the team but a dislike (hate is too strong a word in football) of all the plastic armchair Man U supporters who swan about Town in their replica shirts taking about "We this" and "We that" when refererring to them.

Most have probably only been to Old Trafford once or twice, if at all.

I can honestly say that I have never understood why someone would support a team so far away that they have no actual physical connection with. Absolutely baffles me.

They could do a lot worse than appoint Hurst as manager

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

I thought it might get a rise from someone Abdul!

Whoever it is, the first act should be to ban Fergie from Old Trafford. It’s like Busby used to be - everyone looks to him even though he is doing nothing these days. Living in the past.

Pity McCarthy’s got fixed up, he’d have sorted the bu99ers out!

Blanc is a fair shout but he went rapidly downhill at PSG after a good start and he’s done nothing since 2016. Zidane left before he had that problem.

My outside choice would be Rafa Benitez.

One explanation could be that during the initial TV coverage of the game it was Man Utd who were up there similarly with Leeds and Derby, i grew up with lads who supported those three....i used to like watching Man Utd on the telly when Coppell, Hill , Pearson , Buchan , Macari, and Co were playing for them. Once a generation gets exposed to that level of TV coverage then they pass it down...takes years of non success or non coverage to wash that out...older generation than me will still have the memories of the Busby babes and the holy trinity of Law, Charlton and Best...and given Man Utd still get the lions share of TV coverage then it wont stop.
Just look at how many Chelsea tops you see locally nowadays...ridiculous. All about the money, media and marketing.

It goes back even beyond that Moosey. MU had a following on the newsreels in the 50s before Munich when the Busby Babes started and then they got players like Edwards and Tommy Taylor who were heroes to  faggies collecting kids.  Munich cemented it because it was hard to support anyone playing against their makeshift side for the next 2 seasons. They got the sympathy vote even though the Spurs double team of 1961 was probably a better side than the Babes had been. Then they got started on the European years and that was it but to be fair an awful lot of kids round Grimsby supported Liverpool, Leeds and Chelsea in the 60s.

Reported that misery will get £18 million payoff,

I wonder if he wants to buy his own club ?

I know one that's a snip at £2 million.

Arrogance is the reason. The club thinks it is better than any other club. The fans ( at least the ones I have met ) are arrogant and look down on fans of lower teams. They attract arrogant managers and Mourinho is the most arrogant manager ever. What really capped it for me was when  they pulled out of the FA Cup to play a meaningless game in Japan. That , to me, showed utter contempt of English football and possibly deprived a low division team of having a " once in a lifetime " opportunity to play them. In my eyes they are on par with Scunthorpe as being the lowest of the low.

Hughes will probably be thinking to himself that he is a serious contender for the job.....in fact.....they all will.

Batch, K.Moore, Waters, Wiggington, Crombie, Brolly, Ford, Drinkell, Mitchell, Cumming, Kilmore. D.Moore, Stone, Liddell. ....1979/80..... now that WAS a team.

To be fair to them (urgh!), wasn't it the FA that pushed them into that?

Why
Not that old chestnut that only people born in Manchester support City and the rest of the world supports United

As a City fan I was devastated to  hear the news of Mourinho's sacking. I would have extended his contract!

Hardly a big shock. All their fans are fed up with not just the results but the style of play and the constant excuses he comes up with. He was a good manager once but the game seems to have passed him by. The way he sets up his team against the better sides is so negative. Simply not United.

When the scousers are singing they want Mourinho to stay you know its only a matter of time. The press release from United 24 hours earlier that there were no 'imminent' plans to replace Mourinho basically said all you needed to know.

I wont shed any tears for the bloke.....he is a total bottom. No doubt he will pop up somewhere (probably abroad)

Well, well... I think it`s time to re-learn that song again for the United Fans:

You are my Solskjaer, my Ole Solskjaer,
You make me happy, when skies are grey,
When it is boring, you just keep scoring,
Please dont' take my Solskjaer away.

I feel exactly the same about all plastics. Sunday afternoon you couldn't move in Town for people wearing Liverpool shirts. I suspect the only difference between mock Mancs and the equally preposterous mock Scousers is that for the last 28 years the latter haven't had a great deal to be arrogant about ☺.  Whatever it's a million miles away from what I want from modern football.

In their eyes it probably gives them kudos as 'genuine' fans for sticking by them. Only in their eyes mind.

They could have declined but chose not to. The FA could not make them play that match. Their Board decided to take the 20 pieces of silver.

See your point. 'What has it got in its lockerses?'

(I would have said Howard Goodall or Rory Bremner).

Serious question.

Why didn’t they do both?  The main team in Brazil. With a reserve team in the FA cup for round 3. That way they could explain to all why they were putting out a weakened side. And depending on the draw it’s pretty much what they do anyway !!

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'
