So with Collins out, Welsh not making the team, who do we think will be given captaincy tomorrow night?

I’m guessing Macca? .. unless welsh comes in to be a leader for the match ahead of Clifton/Hess

Guessing Wes Thomas could be a fit too if needed.

Yes, Macca as senior pro. Wes struggles to last 90 min even when noticeably pacing himself through each half. Let him concentrate on bothering defenders.
As a one off I'd even reward Clifton with the armband. Covers the whole pitch and would be backed by the home crowd. The game is too quick for Welsh now.

Sadly agree regarding John Welsh. You can see he's a leader, but his legs aren't what they were. Eighteen months of his contract left as well. Without Collins, we are a young side without obvious leaders and organisers. Definitely a concern there as Collins is well placed at centre back to pull players around and get us organised. Also happy to deliver the occasional rocket when needed.

I'd be tempted to start John Welsh with a view to replacing him when he's spent tomorrow night. Would also give one of the other lads a rest or it's three games in eight days. I don't think John would be comfortable in a flat three though, you could ask him to screen and give the other two lads freedom to get forward and support more. Didn't work too well earlier in the season mind.

Why the buggery are people red-crossing this, I can't understand. Haven't they got enough homework to do?

Not a bad call that about Harry. Remember Ryan Bennett being given the armband (temporarily) at an even younger age. And Tony Adams at 22.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

How on earth can you give Clifton the armband. Making someone captain shouldn't be just a gesture because the captain is needed to take control. I doubt very much if Clifton could do this. It's not cricket so you don't play somebody just because you need a captain. Macca good keeper but hopefully too far from the action. The only person that I can think of is Hessenthaler but it is a difficult one for the manager. If Woolford was certain to play [on ability   ] he would be the natural choice

Clifton would be a good call, he's always motivating and bollocking the other players around him.

Captaincy is about leading by example.

Age shouldn't be a factor, nor experience.

Ryan Bennett was the best player on that team by a mile even at 17 years old, was an imposing figure and was capable of leading. Harry Clifton is not. Despite was the local yokels might think, being from the area is not something that makes you worthy of being captain.

The dynamics of the changing room that we fans are not privy to will probably make MJ's decision easy to make and not surprise the players in the slightest..

Very true, but we can speculate from afar using our own eyes and ears on a matchday.

But a captain in cricket does a lot more than a captain in football. In cricket he organises the field , decides which bowlers to use, how to use them and when. In fact his role is more as a playing coach who organises everything on the field.

MJ is a big admirer of Harry Davis.
Davis started off in the failed back 3 against VGR - so MJ thinks he is versatile. He has played full back and centre back in the back four. All in all l think MJ sees him as a key ( and therefore regular) player.
He was straight back into the team after injury - injured players don’t usually get straight back in    under MJ ( Jordon Cook, Mitch Rose, Alex Whitmore )

Does this make him Captain material ?
MJ might have a better idea after tonight, even if this is a one off.

Also, and probably the vital ingredient,  he is sponsored by The Histon Mariners...........!!!!!
