I know the site has been slow today. I have identified the problem and am hoping for a fix soon.

Apologies for the slowness.

Yeah ....it's painfully slow for me at the moment.

Yeah I know what's caused it. The code is not particularly efficient in one area. As the database has grown it's materialised in a problem. I'll be able to fix it but for now it's under control I think.

I don't know and it's not anyone's fault, it's just a rare combination of events cascading to cause a problem. When someone visits a page it fires off a load of queries. Normally they return data. If the database is busy very occasionally it kicks the query out, but the site retries so the user won't even notice other than a small delay. All I can do is make sure the site doesn't ask for too much too often, and what it does ask for is returned quickly. The code has worked more or less perfectly for 5 years it just picked today to go wrong.

So it was you that did Berezhovsky, Litvinenko and tried to do Skripal. Oh and that bloke just does the road in New Malden.

Was this the code Russell Slade was demonstrating at the forum?

I have implemented Phase 1 of the speed improvement fix. Everything should appear the same. Hopefully, it will be slightly quicker loading the list of messages on the board, which was where the problem was. I'll have a go at Phase 2 when I add some additional caching in the next day or two.

You can see how it is doing here

UPDATE: Phase 2 is now done

Very good.

Sadly as well as costing me a fortune, it was no oil painting.

Sounds very much like my ex !!

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'
