Seeing as it's a bit quiet on here just thought I would mention that Aston Villa have sacked Steve Bruce.

Not sure what's going on there but I believe Bruce dodged a cabbage last night.

Three potential candidates linked with the job, Thierry Henry, John Terry and Sam Allardyce.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

I’d put good money on it being Dean Smith from Brentford.

Who would've thought Gerrard and Lampard would walk straight into reasonably high profile jobs.

Aston Villa must be on of the most consistent teams to be in the top flight in my lifetime (born 1960) over to the stats ?

Probably not many* with longer spells, although Villa have had two or three periods out including a drop to the Third Division IIRC.

* Everton, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man U, Spurs without checking. All have had spells out of the top flight in that time apart from Everton and Arsenal. Which just shows you the churn in English football.

As he's one of the most brilliant minds in football, stands to reason he would. Villa fans should be expecting that next European title in just a couple of years now.

Apart from the likes of Everton and Arsenal, Coventry City were always one of the longest serving top-flight teams having been promoted in 1967, until their relegation in 2004.

I can very vaguely remember the time Villa were 3rd Division in the early '70's.

My memory might be playing tricks, but did Villa get average gates of 30,000 in Division 3 when they got promoted?

They averaged 31,963 the season they won the 3rd Division title and 26,253 the season before when they finished 4th.

throwing a cabbage at him and then sacking him* is a classless way of treating any manager** never mind one who has dealt with as much as he has over the last 9 months or so.
