What is the most tinpot ground we have ever played a proper first team game in? Histon has to be up there for me.

Coalville can't be classed as a stadium?
|
| Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong Update: I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly |

Wasn't there one where the away end was like standing in a concrete gutter and the toilets were just a wall to urine up? I have some flashbacks of somewhere horrible and possibly one of the reasons I didn't do many away games in that season.

Could be Bootham Crescent, York or Saltergate, Chesterfield. Both had cabriolet ‘toilets’.

Hayes and yeading was one of my non league highlights. Away gates opened at half time - quick march down the local for a couple of pints - show tickets to gate man and back in for the second half . How terribly civilised.

That was ace! Let us out at half time to the club house which was like a pub outside the ground then back in for the second half with no ticket checks. Mind you, I can't imagine that part of west London being full of people eager to gatecrash a game.

Coalville is harsh, they’re not a big side and it was ok for their level.
Even though it can fit a couple thousand in it, Welling was horrific! That concrete wall behind the goal!
Eastleigh was a metal box and Braintree wouldn’t look out of place on a farm.

I thought Tamworths ground was a bit shite.
That was the first time it really sank into me how far we'd actually fallen in that first season in non-league about 6 or 7 games in, stood on that poxy away terrace watching us get beat 2-1.

I went to Tamworth with a mate from work who has a season ticket at Ibrox. He turned his head at one point and burst out laughing because there was someone stood in their garden peering over the fence to watch the match.

agree with that. Coalville treated us really well, like a mini mid winter festival with the heras fencing and outside catering and bars. always have quite fond memories of that place. Chasetown was probably the smallest - grass banks, players warming up by the entrance on the grass behind the banks as we walked by/through them! and we managed to watch the game with a pint and thorugh the large glass windows of the pavillion/bar.was more like being at a club cricket match! Hayes and yeading was run down but had a faded charm.loved the fact they let us out to go to the pub at half time there was 1 or 2, then a trickle and then a flood as the good news spread amongst the town fans! i also liked Welling,Tamworth and Ebbsfleet for their old fashioned charm - 'proper' non league grounds. and welling were very hospitable - the bar downstairs made a killing, was an awesome atmosphere and we had the treat of podge being on fire that day. nuneaton and braintree were dreary, nothing, depressing venues

Southport. The ball would fly over the away end and land in thornbushes between the ground and a school. Cracking town to visit though

Boston United was terrible. I’ve not been since we won 6-0 there in 06/07 but the place looked like a deserted warehouse from the outside, and inside it was a mish mash of poorly deteriorated corrugated iron, steel and concrete. No character to it, just tired and looked too big for them to maintain. Weird layout as well.

Salisbury was pretty crap, despite being fairly new. And it was in the bottom-end of nowhere miles from the city centre so had no redeeming features. Plus if was fricking cold!
Braintree was a ramshackle place with very poor away end.
In a way I'd feel a bit bad about characterising places as 'tinpot' because they are generally what you'd expect for that level. Also enjoyed going to quite a few of those places. Generally welcoming people, access to bars in the ground, some nice pubs, etc.

I won't criticise Braintree as about 90% of Town fans who were there that fateful day escaped a 3-year banning order.

Alfreton. The sloping pitch, and the turnstyle arrangement that meant you ran the risk of being crushed to death on the way out if there were more than 20 away supporters.

The view in the home end 89-90 wasn`t bad
Bet it was even better from the pylons 😆

| Through the door there came familiar laughter, I saw your face and heard you call my name. Oh my friend we're older but no wiser, For in our hearts the dreams are still the same. |

I remember that game, Dale Banton scored a cracker I think, Richard O Kelly broke his leg. 1989 I believe.
I was a scrawny teenager at the time and there was a load of older Town nutters stood at the front climbing the fence, didn't see much of the game but what an atmosphere even though it was open. I think Kelly scored as well as breaking his leg in that game, and as for Banton, I can't remember him, I think that goal was his only goal for us as he only played less than a handful of games. Also some of the standing in that cage was below ground level if I remember rightly.
