I always admired Amond, especially for what he did at Town, however his antics today in front of Mckeweon where he kept jumping up and down in Mckewan's face stopping him arranging his wall was not good. I don't know what the rules are for what he did. He might not have broke any rules, I don't know, but it was definitely morally wrong and cheating in my eyes. And from that free kick we lost the game, although on the whole we didn't deserve anything today. I would hope that no Town players ever stoop that low to try to win an advantage. My wife says I'm too principled but I would rather be like that than to resort to dirty tactics like Amond did today and the likes of Akinde Pen.

At the end of the day he is a Newport player and Newport are going to do what they need to do to win,
If he was instructed to do that when they have a dangerous free kick his going to do it no matter who it’s against and he did and got away with it.
Won’t be the first time his done it and won’t be the last this season, Buisness is buisness at the end off the day.

I agree that he should do everything in his power to get the points for Newport but to me, naively, think it was not the right way to play football. And I've never seen anyone before do that to a goalie.

Scored 32 goals to get us out the conference - that will be all that matters to me - he'll be only following his managers orders anyway.

It's up to the referee to deal with gamesmanship. Sounds like he failed in this aspect today, as well as a number of others.

Thing is there must have been 5-10 seconds from Podge walking away to the 18 yard line and the free kick being taken, was Macca still whatching him instead of the free kick?

Gamesmanship from Podge, you can't blame him for our poor team performance, the ref was weak and I would say the gamemanship from the Newport players when ever one of their players went down was sickening, surrounding the ref trying to get our players sent off.

1. I never saw Podge do that in a town shirt
2. I agree with rob, I’d never watch my team again if they did any of that excrement.

Absolute balderdash did he do that when he played for us. I remember his account of leaving town didn't exactly match up with Hurst and Fenty's - i'd take anything he says with an enormous pinch of salt.
The only time I ever remember a town player doing anything like that was Charlie I'Anson at a free kick cos my dad went properly mad over how unsporting he thought it was!

He’s a footballer, many if not most of them have short memories and find the truth hard to deal with, unless it suits them that is. That said if AN Other who’d never played for us this would not be a big deal.

Apart from what Podge did I did not like what Macca said before the game,
That he hated playing at Newport we never get a result there,
It does not matter what he thought he should never have said that before the match.

Never noticed him do it at Town. Whether he did or not at Town is actually neither here nor there, he's gone down a notch. I dare say I wouldn't be as bothered if he did it in a Town shirt, but I wouldn't feel good about it.

Just proves to me that Amond is a journeyman and has little respect for his former clubs, amazing how he describes it as a little bit of fun.

Gavin Gunning did similar in every game he played for us......facing the goalkeeper and standing in his way and mirroring his movements when setting the wall up.........he even did it against us on opening day.
Amond absolutley "owns" McKeown and Macca knows it...he is proper in his head..end of. But as others have said, Podge was nowehere near by the time the free kick was struck and Macca didnt move despite the ball appearing to be pretty close to his side.
No issues with Podge doing what he did.

I agree with you, very poor behaviour. But the ref is the judge, even if he was a poor one. Macca has to look after himself, he should have bullied Podge back. Honestly not why we lost the game, though, in my opinion. We simply didn't turn up compared to our performances at Lincoln and Macclesfield. Newport looked poor in general and went to ground way too easily, but that's what some teams do. But we were poorer. Newports main strength in my view was that they didn't allow us any space at all, were always faster to every loose ball, and there were a lot of those, our passing was awful. The Wes Thomas sending off was a joke and summed up the ref's poor officiating. But we lost the game, they didn't really win it. McKeown let Podge in his head, totally did what he said pre-match he didn't want to do.

Part and parcel of a strikers make up he did a job on Macca simple as that.

It hasn't changed my view of Podge at all, he did what he thought was right for his current club.
That said I don't like playing the cynical way Newport did, and am another one who can't remember Amond ever doing that for Town, but am sure if he had I wouldn't of complained at the time.

What irritates me is that it worked. That was weak. I think the free kick was saveable and by the time it goes in, Macca hasn't really moved. Concentration broken or not, we've been done by a fairly common trick and we need to be much stronger than that. Macca will surely be annoyed with himself today for being 'done up' like that.

I wouldn't call using a trick of the trade cheating, in the same way as when an opponent sits on the keeper at corners to block him off. In all honestly I admire Macca, great shot stopper, very good on one-one situations, distribution is normally okay but he does have an very bad habit of not attacking high balls in and around in his area, the point in case highlighted on Tuesday against MKD. So, no podge isn't a cheat, he simply out witted Macca...

Having watched Macca many times in these free-kick situations I have often thought how he has reacted wrongly. He seems to set the wall up and then at the last second takes a pace away from how the wall is set.

Dear oh dear Part of football. Podge is a Newport player so we should have found a way to nullify his antics. We didn't so thats down to our players not Podge.
Would love him back in Black and White.

There is a streak of naivety running through recent Town teams. MJ stresses the need for signings to be 'a good person' Perhaps we could balance it out with a few like Rees, Cunnington, Livvo and the guy who sorted Shearer?

All this does is to underline how foolish it was not to offer Podge a longer contract in 2016 when we had the chance. For some reason, which I never understood, Hurst never seemed to have rated him that much - remember when we had Tomlinson on loan and so Podge got left on the bench?
So nobody has the right to complain about a player who gave so much and not to use words like "cheat" especially when we wouldn't be back in the League if he's not converted that penalty at Braintree.

From the 3 games I’ve seen we look to have a bit more bite than in previous seasons. You can have that without behaving like total w@nkers!
Totally agree, we have a few this year who look like they can look after themselves, Welsh, Whitmore, Famewo to name a few. Whatever the rights or wrongs of the incident, it was simply Macca being done by his "mate"

Totally agree, Macca needs to be more wise in situations like these, run up to the ref and say what's going on here ref

Is there the same mock outrage when McKeown takes an age with his goal kicks when we're defending a lead?
It's not cheating, it's mind games. There's a bloody huge difference in the two. Amond got in McKeown's head and he knew he could do it. McKeown needs to work on that aspect of his game and make sure it doesn't happen again.
This sudden witch hunt against Amond is embarrassing.

Podge or any player can stand where they like as long as they do not put hands on the opponent,
Macca should have saved that free kick then nobody would be talking about Podge,
I would have Podge back as he is the 20 goal striker we need.

Agreed Macca should have been screaming at the ref to urine him off no room for the ole pals act Podge knew what he was doing. That Ref is a rookie league ref I'm pretty sure this was used by the management at Newport to their advantage their players seemed instructed to hassle him and it worked. Is it legal? of course, You use every trick you can to win a match It's part and parcel of the modern game same as sledging is in cricket.
