I dare say she's right. But you do lay yourself a patronising attitude if it appears that your husband has appointed you to do a role like that. For the avoidance of doubt I would think the same thing if it was Radford's son or husband - any apparent nepotism is best avoided.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Maybe they speak to her husband, not her as he's the one who made the money. She should just smile, show some mammaries and get the kettle on for the meetings.

She definitely married him for his youthful good looks.

As Kingston says, nepotism makes folk wary. I have no idea whether she is good at her job or not, but i'm sure there are male execs out there who are in their positions based on family ties, rather than talent.

She’s probably right, look at the state of our own boardroom - a load of dusty old blokes including a non-chairman who said they’d installed a sink in the changing rooms for women refs.

I think the game in this country is still top heavy with the old boys network. Our board resembles the Politburo. No diversity there of any kind, and it shows in how the club is run.

It's getting a bit much, the last few months the media have really gone for it. Pushing womens football at every opportunity and somehow expecting the public to take a female footballer seriously when she has 100 caps for England commentating on Premier league games. I feel for the poor blokes who have lost their jobs because they aren't female.

It's funny none of these women Sky have presenting now look like a female Martin Keown!

Well she has previously used "cave men" to describe the same so are we evolving or devolving here ??

so she has never heard one man compliment another man ?  Really ??

she has never complimented a female colleague by saying "you look gorgeous, lush, beautiful, banging, fit girrll" or whatever term is currently doing the rounds ? or never received the same back ?

If you want equality then practice equality,  dont cherry pick .

....and was she not previously reported to work as an escort girl herself to earn money through Uni ..was that being exploited ..or ....exploiting sexuality ?

In the case of Alex Scott I think she's been a breath of fresh air. The standard of punditry (and commentary) on terrestrial TV has gone down hill in the last 10 years. She clearly does her research and puts to shame some of the old boys network who just turn up and blag their way through.

Not just football.
Politics is just as bad.
Look at the top 5 unelected old illegitimates that run our lives from Brussels.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

How many male pundits can you actually call competent though? Neville and Carragher maybe? At a stretch Jermaine Jenas? I must admit, Rachel Brown is shocking on BT Sport but we’ve barely even had a taste of female punditry. It’s the usual gammon turning up with their opinions about it though.

I didn't realise football or boxing was exclusively a man's sport? I assume then that you only want women reporting on women's football and boxing?

Bizarre comment.
Plenty of useless male pundits,I often switch off when they trying to show their knowledge of the game.
Of course there's a place for female punditry if the person is qualified with knowledge and experience.

I would welcome a woman as our CEO or Chairperson provided she was well qualified for the job same as I would any man.

Not sure Mrs Radfords background actually qualified her for the job she holds though

I suppose they should be inside cooking the tea and washing the pots instead eh?

I'd hazard a guess that Alex Scott and Eni Aluko know a damn sight more about football that you or I!

Why shouldn't they commentate on a sport that they've represented their Country at?

This is 2018 not 1818!!

I have no bias towards pundits of either sex, but in reality I usually record MOTD so I can fast forward through all of the connecting bits.
I may not be an “expert”, but I think I’ve seen and played enough football over the years to be competent enough to form a reasonable view of what I’ve just seen, without a panel of ex players etc. explaining to me how I should interpret what I’ve just watched!

We live in the time of the “expert”, whether in sports, news, films, etc.
I guess the proliferation in this area is one (negative?) of more dedicated specialist channels, Sky Sports, BT etc. where 24 hours a day of airtime needs to be filled.

Never used to happen on “The Big Match”, or “Sports Night with Coleman”  *

I thought it was the other way Lee. To my mind we live in the age of the anti-expert. There seem to be endless programmes on radio and television which ask for viewers and listeners opinions - phone-ins, tweets, e-mails. The attitude seems to be everyone's opinion is as valid as the professionals'.

I quite like Jermaine Jenas as a pundit and I think Alex Scott speaks more sense than the likes of Shearer who regularly quotes the rules incorrectly. Don't care what gender someone is if they know what they're talking about.

Absolutely - an informed opinion from someone expert in a field is treated with suspicion as they're by default part of a system that isn't to be trusted. The problem with regard to football punditry though is that whilst Shearer, for example, might have been very good at kicking the ball into the net, he's not very good at talking about other people doing it, or indeed talking full stop. Or getting the better of Justin Whittle.

We are destined to a fool's fate that deserves to be mocked.

I find this Radford person extremely irritating. Yes the game is full of dinasours, men and perceived sexist comments. It a mans game. It always has been. Yes I agree In opening the game up to the female fan, The introduction of female officials and even allowing previous illegal sex workers and prostitutes into boardroom positions. But nothing will change overnight, the equality argument is correct in that it should be a level playing field for earning potential based on merit and experience. However attitudes towards this will and are going to take a generation. It is already happening. This is nothing but seeking media attention. Shut up Radford and get on with your job. Hell, if you do a good job running Mansfield they might just invite you onto Question time again.

Oh excellent, I’m sure we can crack on with “opening the game up to female fans” now that SomersetMariner has approved the idea. Even if some of those women are former illegal sex workers. Very accommodating, thank you sir.

she's a whining attention seeking cow isn't she - her complaint seems to be men have said she is gorgeous and they wouldn't have said that to a man - well obviously they wouldn't find a man gorgeous if they are straight! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

This is hypocrisy in the extreme given that she obtained her position by being the trophy wife of the chairman - he obviously found her gorgeous so hardly surprising that other chairmen do

What if it wasn't a straight man? Say some old fogey on the board of a big club greeted our John with a 'hello gorgeous'? It could make him feel very uncomfortable.

Totally agree on Shearer.

Oh excellent, I’m sure we can crack on with “opening the game up to female fans” now that SomersetMariner has approved the idea. Even if some of those women are former illegal sex workers. Very accommodating, thank you sir.

There are good pundits and poor ones of both sex's

I do not listen to any of them after 65 years of watching as much football as I can I do not need some ex pro telling me what I have just seen,

I fast forward if I have recorded a game and make a cup of tea if it's a live game.

I don't know how all the thousands of fans that attend live games know what is going on without Shearer and Co telling them the bleeding obvious.

Problem is there are no many characters the  people who get the most airtime like Shearer and the Neville’s have the personality of a slug, then you get the foreigners thrown in like Drogba and Billic and it gets even worse. I love to watch pundits with massive passion the likes of  Ian wright, Jamie Carregher, Joey Barton, Phil Thompson etc.

It’s a shame we don’t have big Ron it was a disgrace the way in which he got blackballed, I would love to see someone like Gaza as a pundit I’d even watch match of the day again if was on there or a least someone with a personality.

Rose tinted lenses towards Atkinson there because I seem to remember he just talked endless shite when he was doing commentary.

Shearer and Neville are dull as ditchwater but it doesn't matter to me because I only ever watch recordings of MOTD and fast forward past the tedious punditry. For live England games I make sure I'm busy doing something else during half time.

Dear me ,spit the dog Carragher.
Gazza- that's surely a wind up-he can't string a sentence together.
Big Ron,talked absolute rubbish but was amusing.
Certainly deserved sacking after the comment he made-why was it a disgrace in your eyes??

The most ridiculous thing about the whole debacle as far as Atkinson is concerned is that his racist comment which got caught on the commentary was just obviously wrong. Ignoring the racist part, Desailly, lazy? Nope, he was a really talented footballer who did loads in his career in a number of positions.

Nice slur on the overseas chaps too.

WTF you talking about slur?? Most of the overseas pundits are wooden planks. I would of liked to of seen more from the old players of 70s or 80s who gave so much to help improve the game here but never got a chance. The likes Ozzie ardilles Bruce Grobbelaar, Craig Johnson to name a few real characters of the game. I quite liked Klinsman or Ginola clever players with intelligent analysis but somehow sadly don’t get much of a look in these days.

And Atkinson was a good manager who did a hell of a lot for the black players. He was well respected by his players and strongly supported by his former black players as anything but a racist after his poor choice of words.
He is a dinosaur with respect to his comments and should of been suspended at best with some good old diversity training to bring him inline with what and what not to say in this great modern world.

Just to add I do agree with your rose tinted comment now thinking about if I’m honest, but he sure would beat  Glen Hoddle today.

Ok Craig Johnson a maybe scraping the barrel but you get my drift. Just look at match of the day with old jug ears, he looks like he doesn’t even want to be there. I’d sack him today and bring in Frank skinner to liven the show up. I remember saint and greaves Skinner and Badial a really entertaining duo with contrasting personalities but with an equal knowledge of the game. The thing is today we have nothing like them on the box to entertain, as Maringer say’s we fast forward or leave the room when the pundits come on and the reason is they just not entertaining. you have to listen to the radio like talk sport if you want some good old fashioned no nonsense opinions.

One thing i won’t complain about is how good the coverage is these days and its absolutely fantastic compared to 20/30 years ago. There’s  a lot to criticise for the Murdochs but if you’re an armchair fan (and I’m sure most of us are in someway) we are pretty spoilt these days.

Politics is just as bad.
Look at the top 5 unelected old illegitimates that run our lives from Brussels.

That bird who does the test matches on Sky really pisses me off. They had her on one session with Bumble last match, totally ruined his usual fantastic asides
