Know nothing about him but adds competition in areas that we need it strengthening. Played 28 games in L1 last season so can't be too bad!

Listed as a defender/midfielder and is 6'2", so looks versatile position wise. 2 signings in 2 days and squad building nicely, albeit a bit slowly for the first part of the season.

From a footballing family. Many Hendries had good careers.

I'd say we're probably about done now? Maybe another option for out wide in attacking areas where we're a bit light. We've got 4 centre backs. Two left backs, a right back and a player who can play either side. 5 central midfielders (Rose, Woolford, Welsh, Hess and Clifton). Cook, Vernam, Max Wright, Hooper and Robles(?) a bit further forward and Thomas, Cardwell and Akheem Rose as centre forwards.

Seems to be very much a utility player, started at right back, prefers central midfield but hurst used him as left and right wing back.
Obviously well known to Jolley so hopefully it's an opportunity for him to get his career back on track in a position which he is best suited to

hope he's good then. we have some quality players with us now and players who i think are going to be quality. Some very young but lads who give 100%Good foundations to build on.The future looks bright but we must be patient and not get relegated now that we are moving forward with a good manager. He is building up hie cv with us so we have  about 3 years before he will go

Does anybidy know what position he played for Hurst last season and what position he's likely to play for Town?

I've read he can play either full back and midfield but where has he spent the majority of his career?

This may interest some who don't know a great deal about Luke....myself included!

This is what Paul Hurst had to say about Hendrie when he signed him for Shrews in January.

Luke is a player that Paul has been interested in for a while now and he’s glad to finally have him on board.

“He’s a versatile defender that I had my eye on in the summer”, admitted Hurst.

“We couldn’t quite come to an arrangement with the parent club at the time and he moved onto Bradford City, so he knows what it’s like to be at the top of League One.

“He played a lot of games in Scotland before that, caught the eye and started to build a very good reputation, so for me he is ideal for us.

“He’s another one that is at a younger age and should still have lots of development in him. He’s a good character as well, which is important to us, and I think he adds some flexibility to the backline and adds to our options back there.”

Hendrie has played in a number of positions in his career and Hurst believes his versatility will come in handy.

“I think first and foremost his position is right-back, but I always think when you’ve got a squad that isn’t overly large that you need players that can fill-in in different positions”, Paul said.

“He’s played quite a lot of times at left-back, he’s said that he’s more than happy to do a job as a holding midfield player as well, so if it comes to it and we need to use him there we can, but more so both full-back areas.

“I dare say he could fill-in at centre-back as well, not for the long term, but during a game certainly, so he gives us lots of options and I think that’s what we need, but he’s also gained some good experience at a relatively young age.”

Town beat Bradford to Hendrie’s signature and Paul believes his signing could be seen as a bit of a coup.

“It’s not the case that we’ve got someone who has been cast aside”, said Hurst.

“I think Stuart McCall has mentioned that he was disappointed not to keep Luke, but as soon as I spoke to Luke he liked the fact that we have kept an eye on him and he seems very keen to get started.”

Hurst mentions the fact that he has the ability for more development which he will do under Jolley and the rest of our coaching staff. I think that some people don't realise the significance of MJ's role as Under 23's coach at Burnley. It's not as if he was coaching boys due to the fact that most players become " first team material " by the time they are 20. I also think his versatility will be a great asset when we have key players unavailable due to injury or suspension.

Well when it comes to full backs Hursty knows a player when he sees one. If he is good enought to be in his team he will be fine here. Welcome Luke.

Why? Hurst is no longer at Shrewsbury and maybe Hendrie doesn't figure in their managers plans. As I understand it his contract at Shrewsbury expires next summer so a deal could easily possible in January.
