During the last four season all trust bars have shown the Grimsby match live within the bars which has been very handy and a money spinner for the trust.
This season it has changed with no match live or highlights within the bar areas, last night before kick off a friend asked the bar staff if the game was going to be on tonight and again this season, he was told no it is a new football league regulation.
So we went up to watch the match during the match one of our group went to use the toilets near McMenemy's lounge, when she came back she stated that both the bars on that level was not only showing the game but still serving. At half time i went to the bar in the lower smiths and asked the bar staff who had said earlier no match due to regulations i asked why does it not apply to the entire ground. The bar staff who just shrugged her shoulders.I did feel sorry for the staff as they are front line and obviously are towing the party line.
All i want to know is who has made this decision and why?
PS with the bar income stream presumably being one of the Mariners Trust highest how are they going to keep the place on the board.

A football league regulation which GTFC/MT will need to uphold to retain the alcohol licence. You will recall trouble at several home games with people bursting out of said bar and becoming involved in incidents, sadly this will almost certainly have caused the knock on effect of ALL fan`s being penalised.I assume the showing of the game is seen to attract fan`s into that area out of view of police and stewards during game time and deemed a risk?

Fair enough if that is the case but shouldnt it apply to all bars as the OP asked?

I think the other bar referred to is restricted access from the executive seats etc in the Upper and those using the boxes so rightly or wrongly I`m purely guessing the risk is deemed less?

Again by doing this it creates a two tear fan level. This will also leave a big hole in the trusts income, as bar sales will be effected.

And you weren't exactly on your own either. I could be talking sh1te (no change there then), but wasn't it part of the follow up from the trouble at the Port Fail home game. When a severe lack of Police inside the ground lead to the Vale fans attacking the Findus gates and some of the lads from the bar helped to fend them off !! So naturally the club decided to punish all the fans that drink in that bar for their own c0ck up in failing to adhere to police advice and pay for a few inside the ground. !!

| The wife was going away for a girly weekend. I jokingly remarked 'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football' 'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked She said 'Well you already know how to play football' |

That was my understanding it also happened at another game and the emergency door was booted open and away fans confronted.

While they carry on with their bar facilities, TV's, clean toilets and nice catering. A member up by them, yet they soldier on regardless, as usual.

In the interests of fairness the actual decisions made since the Port Vale game were not made by the club. They were made by the S.A.G. (Safety Advisory Group) which I believe has the power to shut the ground down if their decisions are not adhered to. S.A.G.s are co-ordinated by the Local Authority but also include representatives of all the emergency services as well as event organisers (in this case GTFC) Your version of what happened on that day is widely seen as being what actually happened but there is in existence CCTV footage which the S.A.G. have had access to which gives a different outlook. As far as I'm aware the decision wasn't influenced in any way by the football authorities. With the utmost respect to the O.P. and the bar staff, I suspect that our excellent bar staff are not involved in any of the discussions around safety policy.

Still doesn't alter the fact that decisions made before and during the incident, led to Port Vale fans being able to rampage around the ground unchecked. No police inside the ground, not enough stewards and the gate left open at the Findus end of the Osmond.

In which case Barra I will accept that the club itself did not make the decision. However, I do stand by my belief that had there been a police presence inside the ground, the incident would never had occurred. I whitnessed the behaviour of the Vale fans in Cleethorpes and would be very surprised if the police didn’t advise the club to have some of their officers present inside BP. Whilst the ground manager/safety officer didn’t exactly force the Town fans to engage with the Vale fans, it is my belief that their negligence led to the incident being able to take place. I will quite happily apologise if that was not the case. But that is very much my opinion.

You are of course perfectly entitled to an opinion. My only interest was in pointing out that the actual decision wasn't made by the club and thereby correcting that particular misunderstanding.
