Jordan Cook

Just reading an article on Cook following on from the weekend. He credits MJ and AL with his goal with Jolley encouraging him to hit it when he got a yard of space.

Limbrick also made a video of all his career goals during the week to give him confidence to go out there and have a dig. I think it shows good man management when coaches can work on a players mental confidence and not just focus on physical work.

To be fair after the FGR defeat I just couldn’t work out what Jordan Cook is, he looked like a winger lost playing in the wrong position. I certainly couldn’t work out his inclusion over Vernam, and again at the weekend I was quite puzzled. But it shows you that the coaching staff see things we don’t and obviously the mental preparation they put in on Cook led them to put their confidence in him.

I'd love to have a forward line with both Cook and Vernam buzzing around the top. They're both quick, intelligent and skillful players, they'll cause problems for the meatheads in this division.

I like the look of him. Quick, mean, intelligent and technically good. He did quite well against FGR and my Luton supporting mate and scout really rates him, as did their manager. I said before the Macc game that I think he'll have a good season and that him linking with Vernham would potentially be our strongest offensive asset, at least in this early part of the campaign.

I agree that both Cook and Vernham are talented players, but to be seen at their absolute best they need to play off a target man IMO, I think when we get that target  man, either.on loan, or the next transfer window, we will be a force in this division.

I think there's too much of an obsession with us having to have a target man. There's plenty of successful clubs that don't even have one in their squad let alone team. Football's moved on, smaller more agile players are equally as adept at holding the ball up by being quicker off the mark and can be much more of a challenge to centre halves compared to typical target men..

He was completely anonymous against FGR so hopefully this goal will encourage him to kick on.

There are many ways to play football. Several on here (not saying this was the case in this thread) seem obsessed with 442, with out and out wingers, and the need for a target man. Im currently listening to 'Inverting the pyramid' and its fascinating to hear the progression of tactics and formations, and England constantly lagging of the progression made elsewhere. The problem seems even worse down the leagues - I can just imagine the yelling if we passed it about at the back for 3 or 4 passes to draw a team out....

as said by many....Ronaldo would have been anonymous against FGR if he got the service Cook and Hooper did that day.

Yes but this only works if you play the right type of pass, as evidenced by the FGR game, when things aren't going well there is still a tendency to  launch itstraight down the throats of the opposing centre backs, that's no use to Cook or Vernam, clearly Mr Jolley realises this, which is why he apparently went after Bowman  and Angol, target man types who will bring Cook and Vernam into the game with lay offs, I understand your point, but personally I think we need a focal point up front.

got that bad feeling against FGR that he was one of them players that just run around a lot but wasn't actually any good.

Got that good feeling against Macc that he was a very good player, great first touch, held it up well with his back to goal and turned the defenders more that once


Basically its hard to judge any of the players so early but i definetly see enough of him against Macclesfield to be encouraged
