Matt Dean reporting on Twitter that we are close to signing him.

“I understand #gtfc are closing in on a possible permanent deal for Derby County striker Charles Vernam.

Charles Vernam would be a good signing can play up front or number 10 probably fill the gap with Whitehouse injury, we could also do with back up RB, Koiki at LB, and another striker.

How far off fitness is he following his injury? He looked to be a player with potential if played in the right position (he's certainly not a winger!). It's a bit of a risk if you're signing a player with the expectation that they will be able to play at some point in the future instead of from the first game of the season.

Thought the guy was a cut above in the two games I saw him last season (Colchester and Crawley). Creative, intelligent and looks to get his shots off.

Would it be labelled a risk to sign a young player who's already had two serious knee injuries in two years?
