#gtfc midfielder Elliott Whitehouse is understood to have suffered a serious knee injury in pre-season training. The club is understood to be seeking a second medical opinion amid fears that he could be sidelined for the forthcoming season.

For F@cks sake, excuse my language btw, curse of the pre season strikes again, remember Liam Hearn doing his achilles, put him out for the full season the poor bloke did the other side on his return....Had some high hopes for Elliot, seemed to really want to do well for Town and his team mates, gutted for him and hope we see him in the black n white shirt before May 2019

Gutted for him, was really looking forward to seeing him next season. Hopefully it's not as bad as this thread suggest, though. Wishing him a speedy recovery - sounds like he is really fit, so that's one thing that could aid his recovery at least.

Crap. Almost Bolland-esque timing though I suppose it gives Jolley at least a few weeks to look for another player.

Sounds like he would have been just the sort of all-action box to box midfielder we need. Let's hope the injury isn't as serious as feared and he'll be able to play at some point in the coming season.

Problem with knees is that, even if they are fixed and the player gets back to fitness, it can take a long time for the strength to return so we might not even see the best of him before the end of his contract.

Was speaking to his Mum and Dad who were both stood next to me at the Clee Town friendly. Lovely people actually. Spoke very highly of the club so far and said that he was very complimentary of Jolley and the current setup. Not so kind in his words for Lincoln and the Cowleys.

Really bad news for the lad if it's as bad as first feared

Just excrement news - let's hope that MJ is allowed to bolster the squad accordingly because it still looks a bit thin even before this news.

RH Sport lunchtime bulletin says it's an ACL injury, and club seeking second opinion. Cruciate ligament rupture is usually 6-9 months rehab so out for season if so. Really bad news for him and us.

Just hope when he gets back at least he's part of MJ's plans and not shipped out to Solihull

From someone who has just had knee replacement surgery I feel for him,

Its bloody painful and a long recovery period for average people,

To get back to full fitness to play professional football will be all season,

Best of luck young man and I look forward to you playing again next season,

You never know while you are recovering you might become a L1 player.

Shocking news for the lad, the club and us, the fans who had high hopes for the coming season. My friends in Lincoln had intimated that we'd got ourselves a cracker there. As gutting as losing a World Cup semi final for all concerned. balderdash! 😭

Grantley, he didn't give loads of info and was maybe biased with him talking about his son. He said he was playing the best football he'd played, in really good form and deserved to be starting (scoring goals and assists). The Cowleys brought someone else in and dropped him for no reason and then felt like he was frozen out. Felt like they had their favorites and man management wasn't their strong point. Some players need a rocket up them and others need an arm round the shoulder but they had 1 man management style and that's it.

This was just in a 10 -15 minute chat at the game. He wasn't slating them but certainly didn't come across as their biggest fans.

All opinions of course

Player that leaves a club in not particularly happy shocker.

Whitehouse played lots of games later in the season because of injuries, he wasn't dropped for anyone. He did well enough when he played and was offered a contract. No idea what sort of terms were offered but he must have felt it was financially more secure to go to you guys over two years than stay here for a year, if a year was what was offered.

It's really sad to see him injured so soon and I hope he comes back quicker than expected. He has age on his side is a very whole hearted young man which will help his fight to get back playing asap.

I have had both ACL’s done , 20yrs apart . The one last year was a breeze . 12 weeks and a day I was back playing golf . The procedure is very much improved. As for knee replacements I know people who say it is the best think they ever did . Everyone is different with pain but personality I didn’t find it painful at all, just do all the exercises you are supposed too .
Good luck

Its only painful at first mate

I need my other one doing as well but for the first few days after the op I thought no I wont bother having the other one done.

Then things got better and better and now I am seeing the surgeon in 2 weeks hoping he puts me on the list to have my other done asap.

You will be fine mate .

There is no good knee operation but if the lad has natural fitness from pre season training, then with good rehabilitation and no complications from surgery, we should all hope for a clean and speedy recovery for the lad.

I'm guessing that even at our level, there will be insurance policies in place for long term player injuries.

Would he qualify for rehab at the National Centre through the Players Union?

Been discussing this today.

Would the policy be to cover his wages whilst he is unable to play? Wonder if it paid out for Kelly's time here?

Can you see Fenty paying the premiums when the likehood of it being claimed is slim?

Injuries happen, I would rather have the fittest squad that are still strong later in a game then ones that are puffing out of their bums after 60 minutes.

Injuries happen, I would rather have the fittest squad that are still strong later in a game then ones that are puffing out of their bums after 60 minutes.

But as previous managers have found out. knee and hamstring injuries are more likely to happen when training on hard surfaces.

Due to the current weather and lack of rain, most grass areas in the country are yellow and bone dry. Players are no doubt chomping at the bit to impress and it could have been caused by tackle or anything. I seem to recall that is how it happened to Hearn.

If he’s out for that long let’s just make sure he’s not the forgotten man, supporters getting behind him now is something that will make so much difference to the lad.

I know this injury could never be forseen but it makes it even more of a shame that we didnt retain the offer to re-sign Summerfield for another season.

Completely different type of player aren't they?  Sure I read that Whitehouse is far more attack minded than Summerfield.

Yep. Lots of people have pointed out that it's harder on him than us. I think what you're getting at is how long-term injuries can affect sportsmen psychologically. Well anyone who can't work through injury or illness.

#gtfc midfielder Elliott Whitehouse is understood to have suffered a serious knee injury in pre-season training. The club is understood to be seeking a second medical opinion amid fears that he could be sidelined for the forthcoming season.

A terrible blow for the lad which hopefully wont be as bad as feared and of course a blow for the Mariners.

Feel really sorry for him. Here’s to hoping he comes back stronger than ever!

Not sure if we will be in the market for more CMs? We’ve got Rose, Clifton, Woolford, Welsh, Hessenthaler, can’t Cook play attacking CM too?

Does that mean he will be going to Solihull then?

Jokes aside Osborne got a bad injury in last seasons preseason and made it back for around mid-season hopefully Whitehouse is back soon.

Whitehouse is more of a 10 really, gutted for the lad, people saying he had a bad relationship with Danny are not telling the truth. Danny was one of the first to ring him and speak with him, as was reported yesterday.

He is certainly one of the fittest players I have ever seen, so to get an injury like this is a blow, but I am pretty certain he will come back.

According to MJ the ground conditions were not a factor, simply an accidental collision in training.

It'll be like a new signing when he returns. I said before, with Welsh and Hess alongside whitehouse, that is a top League Two midfield right there.

So, do players get to attend the Lilleshall rehab centre during recovery from major ops?

Surely the wealthy Premier earners could put something aside to ensure that players at all professional levels have an equal opportunity for full fitness ??

The Premiersh*t, as an organisation, could divert some money from it's tv rights income to fund that kind if approach but it won't. The clubs in the Premiersh*t are all too greedy and self centred to ever contemplate such a move.

In case anyone missed it on Thursday, update on Elliott Whitehouse.
Quoted from Grimsby Town Football Club | Posted: 11 October 2018
Grimsby Town midfielder Elliott Whitehouse gives a six-week update after the operation on his ruptured ACL injury

The 24-year-old, who signed for Town on a two-year deal this summer, suffered the knee injury in July – just weeks before the start of the Sky Bet League Two 2018-19 season.

The midfielder underwent a successful operation at the end of August, and is now well underway in his rehabilitation process.

Whitehouse explains how he’s beginning to merge some light cardio training into his programme, and emphasises the importance of being in close contact with the rest of the Mariners squad.

Having physio input every day is a big help in rehabilitation from this kind of injury. When I did my ACL I got physio once a week and had to be disciplined enough to do some exercises each day, and it's not quite the same. Reckon he looks a strong lad with a tough and determined attitude so I think he has a great chance of coming back strongly and being a real asset to us eventually. Good luck and best wishes to him.

Yes, I'd thought the same about the badge Also, I know it must have been rough for the players during all the recent defeats, but does that justify apparently trying to climb out of the window ( 1.00) ?

Very positive. Hopefully he will be fully fit for the start of next season.

Him, Hess and Clifton are as good a midfield trio as we have had for quite a while.

Different player to Embleton.... got a great engine on him and has a great knack of popping up in the box a la Martin Peters.... hope he fully recovers... really liked him at Lincoln. A players player

Absolutely no point in thinking about this season as some have suggested, let him continue building up over the next 3/4 months and hopefully he will be right to go for next season.
