Quite radical changes to local Sunday League footy next season.

There will be 5 subs allowed each game and they will be roll on roll off, so you can bring a player off after half an hour and then bring him on again in the second half and also instead of a yellow card for dissent, it will be 10 minutes in the sin bin!!

Seems like the Sunday League committee are making the rules up as they go along. I did used to help run a team until a couple of seasons ago but I'm quite glad I'm out of it now.

When I played Sunday league in the early ‘70s we did well to have 11 players at kick-off and often only had 13 players signed-up, so things must have changed if each team is able to find 5 subs.

You can usually get 5 subs for the first game ....its the week after thats the problem as those subs see there @rse and dont come back !!

5 subs has been available for a couple of seasons here now anyway ,  its just the rolling element that is new to us, the Sunday League or Lincs FA deferred introducing the rolling element a couple of seasons ago but obviously the time allowed has expired and now comes into place.

Personally i think the 5 subs is a great idea, if you were lucky enough as a manager to have 5 subs available you could at least keep players a little happier with giving them some game time, whereas under the name 5 but use 3  subs rule 2 guys would get changed for nothing which raises their level of frustration.
Rolling subs i quite like, it can give time for players to shake off a little knock or if you sub someone through poor form but injuries later in the game could leave you short you can bring them back on rather than finishing the game with men light.

Be interesting to see if anyone has the luxury of bringing on a set piece specialist , or big lads on for attacking/ defending corners...turning it into American Football !!

Having a Bobby Charlton/ Gary Lineker style disciplinary record myself Les .. ... it wouldnt effect me anyway...... personally i am against it, i think you should respect the ref's so if you give them "dissent" then you deserve a booking....however...there are some refs out there who have very minimal tolerance to dissent and i have seen a fair few yellows brandished for little more than asking a question.
The yellow card would generally calm a player down and nip it in the bud and it has been known that ref's may forget to put the card in afterwards anyway so control maintained at no real cost to the player.

Will wait to see the small print but i think a sin bin will maybe encourage dissent in some quarters thinking well .....no yellow, no fine and i will be back on in ten minutes so i may as well call him a cvnt !!

Calling the Ref a cvnt should be straight red regardless. Do remember gents that it is the clubs that vote in these changes! No I am not a committee member and I may be wrong on this but I could also be right!😎

Yeah, I can't believe that the clubs voted for this. I was told that only 8 votes were against and 2 of those were committee members. If I was still involved I would have been vehemently against these changes.

I'm afraid that the Sunday League appears to be dying and they've brought these changes in trying to save it. To be honest I'll be surprised if there still is a local Sunday League in about 5 years, or maybe there will just be one or two divisions.

Furthering my post from yesterday.

Are any teams on the lookout for new players, I’m wanting to get back into playing to regain some fitness and meet some new mates.
If anyone has any space for a slightly overweight but hard-working full-back/central midfielder then please let me know.

Jack Whattam will be turning in his grave.   I once had to play in goal a week after having the plaster taken off my broken leg, as we only had 6 players.

That must have been a long time ago as for as long as I can remember the minimum number of players needed to start a game is 7.

Taunton saturday league where one of the first to trial this. Seems to work OK apparently. I'm not so keen on it but will see, ive recently been confirmed to run a team next year in that league... For some reason they usually are one of the first leagues to trial stuff (ie sin bins etc also?)

Don't the club secretaries vote on rule changes?

That is correct Les, only six had turned up and having just had my pot removed a few days before, I had only gone down to watch. I was wearing ordinary clothes and you can imagine how busy I was in goal with only 7 men, although 2 more did arrive near to half time.

They do yes, but it's the committee that propose them in the first place.
